Philps Bakery in Hayle are among the best pasties in the county. Their peppery taste make then wonderful, and although there are several varieties to choose from, I would recommend the standard mince. Don't be fooled by the word steak on the other choices, the meat is good, but I feel the pasty as a whole is not as good. And don't go for the medium or large, unless you haven't eaten for 3 days. They are massive. The standard mince is what Cornish pasties should be like, and before going home, I would recommend trying one from Philps, you will not be disappointed.

Coming to Cornwall and walking past bakery after bakery of pastries and cakes as a vegan can be super depressing because even regular vegetarian pastries almost always contain egg or dairy, but not this place!!! Their vegetarian pastie is also suitable for vegans!!! (the staff are knowledgeable, but it also specifies this on the sign) I was so excited at being able to eat a pastry, I took mine right down to the seafront to eat only for a seagull to flap around my head and steal it *tries not to cry as everyone around me laughs* was extremely heart-breaking... But no matter I marched straight back to buy a replacement, explaining to the staff that no I hadn't just eaten a giant pastie and wanted a second (I wish) we all laughed and I continued to cry on the inside, but my second pastie definitely hit the spot and made me forget all about the thieving seagulls! So yes I highly recommend to all my fellow vegans to come to this place, so you don't have to watch on as everyone around you eats Cornish pasties while you can not. We got 4 large and 1 medium pasty and a load of drinks for under £20 which I thought was good value for money. They were packed full of big chunks of steak and veg and really ticked all the boxes. Place could do with a little more seating outside but the weather was fairly pleasant so we were able to sit on the beach.
