I had the grilled chicken salad which was shockingly delicious and fresh coming off a food truck. My husband had the burger and fries. The fries were well seasoned and thick. The burger was savory and delicious. The woman working at the food truck was so kind and they use a buzzer wait system so you can sit and relax knowing you'll be paged when your order is up! Definitely recommend!

And, well, my sons both have the facial fur thing going on, so the name got my attention as well! I stopped by for lunch today with one of my sons. We decided to order the Steak Wrap, the Murphy Chorizo Burrito, and an order of loaded Hash Rounds. Our food was ready in about 5 minutes! We brought it home to eat, but I have to tell you, the tantalizing aroma of all those spices and goodness was enough to make me want to rip open my box right there in the car! This is some of THE BEST food I've had anywhere in a long time! The grilled veggies (peppers & onions) were perfect-not too hard, not too soft (although personally I prefer mine a bit softer, I think the Bearded Chef has it just right, cooked to please almost anyone. The steak in my wrap was tender. Cheese oozed out of everything! My sons burrito was equally tasty with all sorts of flavors combining to make really an ultimate burrito. The Loaded Hash Rounds are plump fried mounds of potato (handmade) with chorizo sausage, cheese and topped with lime crema. Go to the Bearded Chef website Beardedchefbrunch.com or call 904-772-5976 to check out the hours as they can vary. And then go get you some AmAziNg grub at the Bearded Chef Food Truck!

I saw the fried cod sandwich and target was acquired- but with some changes, no salsa (food allergy strikes again) and when I asked if he had tarter is sadly shook his head no. BUT.... the bartender inside bragged about how they made their own sweet pickles. So- I asked do you have mayo? Yup, cool- I can make my own tarter sauce! And I did. Food was ready before I knew it and I got to cutting up my pickles and stirring them into mayo. *side note- the plastic utensils were weak A minute later Debbie and I were digging into deliciousness. My cod was flaky goodness and Debbie really liked the bacon jam on her chicken. And- Big Rich Knows Jax was stickered on their food truck and we had just left an event where we saw him! I ended up ordering the coconut shrimp, which the person who took my order said was one of their specialties and I added on the coconut hush puppies. Given that they had a huge sign saying that their cheese balls were amazing, I grabbed an order the mozzarella ones as well. I must admit that I was a little confused as to why a seafood place was selling cheese balls...but, oh well, I love fried cheese. I was told that since I hadn't placed my order online ahead of time, as I didn't know that was an option, my order would take 52 minutes. I was given a time to return to the truck. Nearly an hour wait is a long time for truck food. I tend to think of food trucks as a great go-to for a quick meal. I mean, even an hour wait in a restaurant for food is a ridiculously long time. Nevertheless, I agreed and paid. My order was ready right on time! I was able to skip the line when I arrived back there and received their text and everything was correct when I checked the boxes before leaving. Nearly everything was also overly fried including the french fries which were dark in color, hard, and difficult to eat. The shrimp were large and nicely breaded and they had a good flavor to them. But the coconut hush puppies were burnt in places and had no appreciable seasoning or flavor aside from coconut pieces. I guess I was expecting the usual spices in a hush puppy with the addition of coconut. And the cheese "balls" were melted discs of breading around some of the cheese. They were still edible but not what was advertised. I remember trying a brie ball from Nomi's Cheese Bar at Gastrofest years ago and what I got was much more successful back then (see pic). It looks like these companies have merged or perhaps they are the same folks?!?! The issues on the night that I went may have been because of the crowd or because their oil temperature was too high. I wish I had tried something that didn't require a fryer to be able to better asses their flavors. This truck seems to have potential but I just didn't have a great experience, particularly given the relatively high costs of the food.

And thankfully neighbors are praticing social distancing. They had prepared food and placed it on a table so you could see what you were buying before ordering. I chose the fried haddock and coconut hush puppies. Both were deliscious! First, the coconut hush puppies were unlike anything I had ever tried. I love coconut, and these puppies packed a huge amount! They were big in size so I only ate one with dinner. Plus the dipping sauce was a perfect pairing with the coconut. I shared the order of four with my niece. The haddock exceeded my expectations! The piece of fish was huge so I split it into two meals. The fish was flaky and the batter was nice and thin how I like it. And packed with yummy flavor! I heated the remainder on my baking stone the next day and it was oh so good. I will most definitely try another meal when Island Girl pops up in my neighborhood again!

When I pulled up there were several folks waiting for their food. I ordered the classic Cuban and sweet plantains. I was given a beeper and waited in my car because it was hot LOL. I called a friend while I waited and the beeper went off roughly 12 minutes later. I walked back to the window grabbed my food and went home to eat. The food was hot and fresh. The Cuban was huge so I ate half and saved the rest. The bread was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside which was perfect to me! It was loaded with pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. It was a fabulous sandwich bursting with many flavors. The serving of plantains was large. Roughly 6 to 7 pieces.
