The sambar was flavorful with a good amount of vegetables in it. Both the coconut chutney and other side chutney tasted amazing. Hats off to the chef. On the negative side, the tables were not clean, and I didn't see any napkins. It could be because it was late at night, and the place was busy. When I had last visited this same place some years ago, they were selling different types of roti. We had bought butter chicken roti, and one other type of roti I can't recall. The roti had been stretchy and the chicken, although of good quantity, had tasted very bad. We had to trash most of it. I am so happy that I gave this establishment another chance. The cashier Mandeep is very nice and polite. I will certainly be returning to this place to try the other dishes they have to offer. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

And if it were run by my childhood best friend, it'd be Brotherfromanothermother India. What to get: Chicken Tikka Masala with Roti or Rice What not to get: India-pendence from the bloody Brits, not without a lot of bloodshed first :( Ways to improve: Slightly lower prices, slightly shorter wait times It may take awhile for your wonderful, delicious Roti to be ready, but it's worth the wait. The lovely young woman serving here does so with a smile, and is as gracious and welcoming has her food is magnificent. Indian food is plentiful in Toronto, but few places blend the spices with fresh doughy roti as wonderfully and magnificently as Mother India. I think it is quite liberal use of the word mother, because I doubt too many Indian mothers can make their food taste this good. The Tikka Masala dish borrows from British Indian food, invented by immigrants to the UK from India, which itself borrows from the original Subcontinent dishes. The Canadian incarnation of this - complete with the wonderful floury slippery roti skins, and the piping hot blend of spices and chicken inside - is unmissable. If you haven't made your way out to the West end of town for some of the ethnic delights - Indian, Caribbean and many more - along Queen St W, then you have yet to truly experience the breadth and deliciousness of the magnificent food choices in Canada's largest city. And if it existed in a world where the bloody Brits had never invaded and colonized India in the first place, then it would be "Another India." But we can't undo the heinous actions of our past. Unfortunately, we also seem unable and unwilling to learn from them.

I liked the idlis - they were lightweight and well cooked. The dosa was little underwhelming- I got the Mysore Masala Dosa, it was good size but lacked taste in masala. I love indian food so I was excited to try the Goat Xacutti as it's something new but it ended up tasting exactly like the Chicken Tikka. And the Chicken Tikka didn't taste like what Chicken Tikka usually tastes like. They both tasted like and amalgamation of every curry all mixed together. It was flavorful, but there was no distinct flavor. The Bhel Puri was yummy, but they served us wayyyy too much for only a party of 2. The garlic naan was fine. I also ordered the sweet lassi, which was tasty. The seating was fine and they had a coat rack which was nice. It's open late (till 11pm) which is convenient and why I might come here again, but otherwise the food did not stand out to me at all.

Midway through the painfully slow setup process, the entire store started filling with the scent of something glorious. Rich spices, buttery warmth... it was the kind of smell that stops conversations. Everyone working there was Indian, and they were all clearly just trying to wrap up my account so they could dig into whatever just got delivered. I had to ask--where's that food from? "Kothur," they said, almost in unison. That was the recommendation, and it stuck with me. I walked by the place once. The exterior didn't scream "hidden gem." Thought about ordering delivery a few times but never followed through. Life, you know? Today, I finally went. From the outside, still nothing to write home about. But walk in, and it's a different story. Clean, cozy, and exactly the kind of no-fuss Indian spot you'd expect to stumble upon in the heart of a big city. The food? Solid. Spices landed right. Everything was warm, comforting, and satisfying. It's not trying to reinvent Indian cuisine--it's just doing it well. If you ever find yourself sniffing the air near a phone shop and wondering what that divine smell is--it might just be Kothur. TL;DR Not flashy. Surprisingly good. Smelled it before I tasted it. Worth it.
