Sending my two boys to Saint Francis Academy was one of my best choices I ever made for my kids…read more My kids started from Pre-K 3 and Pre- K 4 and from day one, the principal, teachers and staff treated my sons with patient and love--always encouraging, and genuinely invested in their growth. The academic program is outstanding. Both of myboys earned scholarships to top Catholic high schools!, but what makes SFA special is how they balance learning with heart. The community here is warm and tight-knit. Kids aren't just taught math or reading, they're taught kindness, respect, love, compassion and how to be good people. My sons thrived in this environment, making good friends and teachers who felt like mentors. And the parents from the school are always nice and helping each other to look after each other's kids. Most importantly, SFA prepared them brilliantly for high school. The transition was seamless, and their scholarships are proof of how well the school equips kids academically and emotionally. They walked into high school confident, organized, and ready to lead--all thanks to SFA's foundation. If you want a school that cares as much about your child's character as their grades, this is it. I am very grateful for the principal, teachers, staff, and families who made these years so meaningful for the family and my kids.

Each and every teacher and faculty member down to the janitor cares about the children. Ms. Savage is such an inspiration to the students and parents, she truly lives, breaths and sleeps SFA. She is the heart of the school. As a parent I am proud that my child is apart of the SFA family. We could easily send our daughter to the catholic school in our community however we choose to send her to SFA because not only is she getting a quality education but she is also learning respect and a love for god that goes beyond your traditional catholic education as well as growing into a kind and loving young lady. I look forward to a long and bright future for my daughter at SFA!

From personal experience this school is extremely controlling and on top of that extremely lazy with academics and neglectful when it comes to actual teaching. The teachers and especially their principal will do whatever they can to intervene in the parents and children's personal lives. On multiple occasions I've seen them force parents to make the decisions, that they want them to make, sometimes these decisions have nothing to do with their kids. If the parents don't comply they will threaten to, and go through with kicking their kid out of the school. Simply because they didn't want to do something in their personal lives which had nothing to do with the school or academics. The teachers and principal Janet Rotter on multiple occasions have intervened where they were not asked or needed.

In fact, we did not fully comprehend the meaning of Studio's motto "an education from the inside out," which is intrinsic to its curriculum, until our son started to manifest his academic strengths and weaknesses. The latter in particular have been the most exciting to witness, for it is because of the emotional grounding and academic support that Studio provides that our son has been able to take on academic challenges with calm resolve. But it's perhaps Ms. Rotter's (Head of School) remarkable understanding of child academic development and psychology that Studio has turned into such an integral part of our family and of the way we now approach learning. Unlike other Heads of School, Ms. Rotter knows every single one of the students (and parents) at Studio and, with her team of outstanding educators, develops individualized and highly effective learning strategies and objectives for the family. Each kid learns differently. This fact meets a thriving context at Studio. Moreover, Ms. Mabey's (Head of Teaching & Learning) curriculum expertise, from development to group and individual implementation, seals the academic rigor we experience at Studio. For instance, at Parent/Teacher meetings, Ms. Mabey regularly teams up with Head Teachers to augment our understanding of our child's development more comprehensively (by discipline and across the disciplines), and to identify practicable strategies to contribute to this development at home. This has proven particularly effective for us, and we have been able to create an atmosphere at home that is congruent with Studio's pedagogy. This, in turn, helps our son maintain steady progress. At Studio, we are all developing together. It's a family affair. But Studio's curriculum also shines for its interdisciplinarity, combining language (Spanish and English), math, science and history all in "One World." On any given day at Studio, children can learn US history along with math principles, while concurrently learning the differences between these disciplines. Studio's mathematics curriculum is extremely efficient. My son is learning math is not just a set of numbers, but a language reflected in everyday life, in every board game we play and at the park and at subway stations. Everywhere. Hence, Studio's curriculum is not about academics in a vacuum, nor academics for academics' sake. It's a complete education, making connections from the school to home and everywhere in between. Now that we have seen our kid grow older at Studio, we see someone who is turning into an emotionally intelligent human, and someone who enjoys learning. Someone who understands his weaknesses and is unafraid to work on them. Someone who understands his strengths and actively works on maintaining them. Someone who is increasingly less scared of his inner-self and comfortable bringing his persona to the table. Thus far, this is a clear outcome of Studio's education "from the inside out" approach. This is why we continue to choose Studio.

The small class size allows for very individualized attention. He is (like many of the students) an uneven learner. He reads and does math way above grade level, but needs help with writing and expressive language (but some children have more typical learning difficulties). Each family is assigned a social worker to meet with on a regular basis, and the social workers also go into the classrooms to work on social skills through "friendship" and "games" groups. There is a "black & white" notebook that goes back and forth every day, providing a means of valuable communication between the teachers and parents. He has met some great friends here, and there is a warm parent community. We can speak freely with each other about our children's "issues" - we're all in this together! So happy we found this little gem of a school! P.S. The Parents' Association hosts a wonderful lecture series on a variety of topics, mostly concerning special needs children.

We offer a social and emotional perspective to learning while maintaining a challenging mainstream curriculum. Our teachers work hand-in-hand with social workers and other specialists to respond as a team to all aspects of a child's development. Children flourish here. Our school is a place where our youngsters can form successful bonds that perhaps did not develop in other school settings. Every day, they are given the tools and techniques they need to feel safe, to succeed, and to feel a sense of achievement. And they have fun learning and forming positive relationships, often for the first time.
