My daughter went to this school for 2 years. What a nightmare. The school has a bullying culture that's out of control. My daughter was bullied and even with written statements from teachers the privilege students were suspended for 4 days. They pushed her down in the bathroom while a few stood watch at the door. Took pictures and only 4 days. When they returned the verbal and emotional abuse continued in class with teacher as witnesses. I had to pull her out of the school for her mental and physical safety. The academics are not as strong as you think and there is no sense of community. It's not worth the money and I feel parents are drawn to it because it's in the West village. Some teachers are great while others lack the drive to prepare students for college. AP classes are limited and hard to get into. Wow. Can't believe I'm the first one to review! Ballin'! Ok, so here's the thing, the Principle is not the same as when I was there, so hopefully it's a better experience for current students, because I firmly believe that integrity and respect trickle down from the top. When I went here the teachers for the most part were awful, Mean Girls style. There was a pervasive small mindedness among the staff which was striking for a school so dedicated to exploring ideas. I checked the current directory and some of the worst offenders are still there (You Know Who You Are!), but some of the teachers were very encouraging and good educators. Shout out to Sister Paddy. If you are considering this school for your kid a few things to note: Cons - 100% college acceptance rate doesn't mean everyone gets in to/enrolls in college. It means they expel you if you don't. But this is true of any school that boasts 100% college acceptance rate. - When I attended school size was 250 and now it's 300. This is very small. It likely is what some kids need, but other kids (like me) need a larger environment to grow in. - The student body is very diverse, but it self-segregates socially. Hopefully this has changed, but when I was there, the white kids sat together, the black kids sat together, the asian kids sat together, and the Spanish kids sat together. For such a small school, it's kind of stupid. - No boys. Now, I understand this is a plus in the eyes for most parents, but really think about it. No boys makes girls crazy, and do you really want to deprive a girl of boys for four years, and then send her off to college where it's a free for all?. Additionally, in a world where you compete head to head with men for power and money in the work force, I'm not sure the environment an all girls education fosters provides a competitive advantage. My daughter just started this school, and we are both extremely happy. I have worked in education for over 20 years, and I love this principal. She cares about the girls, not just in academics, but in their well being. She is from Bank Street, and if you can have a progressive feel to traditional education, then you are complete. In the world of pressure cooker high schools, homework until midnight, anxiety and depression off the charts for most teens, this place cares about balancing out school and life. I went here and you are not going to get a better education for that price in Manhattan. Sending your kid to the city for school is such a rewarding experience that is so rewarding. Especially when they go out in the real world, they have a base understanding of the city. And its in the best part of Manhattan. Extracurriculars aren't as good as other schools but I think its getting better. Overall though very underrated NYC school. read more

Disgusting school in an okay location. You have to walk like 5 minutes to get into the nice places. The teachers don't care about any of the students and my experience there was just awful. Whenever you boarder line fail a class they send you these mean letters basically threatening to kick you out. Yes, I made lifelong friends but the only reason why we bonded was because of our hatred towards the school. read more

Exceptional all-girl high school which focuses on college prep. Encourages positive self-image for women and individualized attention. I note a poor review but suspect that student chose her school poorly. If one wants to do well and is willing to put effort into their education, Notre Dame cannot be beat! The teachers were all interested and willing to give any extra assistance needed, but will not hold your hand - I found this treatment especially helpful since it was how I was treated in college by my instructors. Young women will meet many other achievement-minded peers and role models who will influence them positively. Because it has a small student body, one cannot slip through the cracks as in many other high schools. There are wonderful opportunities for those who are willing to take advantage of them. read more
