Before this, I was trying to self-learn the language via Duolingo, and often felt stagnated. Despite going through the lessons and having a 200 day streak, I didn't feel like I was making any progress in truly understanding the language and just parroting/guessing at sentence structures. The structured classes at K-talk place an emphasis on learning grammatical structure and expanding our vocabulary with USEFUL words (looking at you Duolingo - who needs to say "the fox and the milk" in real life??) are so helpful in helping establish a solid foundation for the language. Yeorim-ssi is a great teacher and makes each lesson fun and entertaining. It's also fun to have a cohort of classmates who are also pursuing the same goal as you (and to complain together when we get to learning the more unintuitive parts of the language :)) Would highly recommend trying out K-talk for anyone looking to learn/improve their Korean ability! At just over a year old, I was extremely hesitant to uproot my child and start fresh somewhere new... but something in my gut told me that AWNWA was the right move for our family and looking back, I couldn't have made a better decision. It's been almost a year since we joined, and I wanted to take moment to share our experience with anyone who may be on the market for a daycare. The staff and teachers at AWNWA make it a truly loving and warm environment, which is why I know that it feels like home for my daughter when she is there. Some things I love about AWNWA are: 1) they post TONS of pics throughout the day to the parent app 2) they do so many fun/educational crafts and activities throughout the day - things I never would think to do at home. 3) They have a small/private outdoor area and use that regularly during the warm months (plus waterplay once a week in summer) 4) they have social events for all families every few months which are a blast and have really helped families to form relationships with one another 5) They value parent input and even have a parent committee to assist with events, policies, etc. 6) It's family owned. The director, Mr. B (and his wife Karan) opened AWNWA when their son was a child over 20 years ago. The center is truly their world and it shows. They both have strong education backgrounds, and have been at LHMS for 5 + years, and recently bought the school from the sorta shady guy that previously owned the school. The school is set up in 2 large classrooms - the Acorn Room is set up for the the 2.5 y/os - 3 yr/0, and the Oak Room is for the 3-6 yr olds. It's a nice set up so the super young kids don't feel overwhelmed by the older kids, and the older kids have a sense of accomplishment moving on to the Big Room . There is a pretty nice, mulched playground out back for the kids can burn off some energy during the day. I knew nothing of the Montessori system when my first child started there, but it's really kinda cool. The students are given a lot of autonomy for such a young age -- they are gently guided through age-appropriate tasks & lessons, where they work independently or in small groups. Not only are they learning counting, letters, shapes, sizes etc--- the things you'd expect your kids to learn in preschool, but they are also learning to self-motivate, work independently and work in small groups --- all great life lessons. My older 2 children are thriving in public school in great part to the skills, confidence, independence and education they gathered at Long Hill Montessori. I highly recommend this school !

She started out in the Acorn room with the schools' youngest students, and like many of her peers, she was weary to leave her mommy at three years old. Her teachers showed her such compassion and patience that within a matter of days she was eager to get through the gate in the mornings and excited to tell me about her day when I came to pick her up each afternoon. Over the course of the three years she was enrolled in LHMS, our entire family noticed such a change in her! She went from clinging to my legs at family gatherings to confidently looking adults in the eye and playing with other children. I remember how quickly she learned the alphabet, the sounds each letter makes, counting, cultures from around the world, the environment, animals and their habitats - I mean, you name it - and I am so grateful for that strong foundation because she now does her homework with such ease, making the whole school experience so much more pleasant! My youngest child is now in the Acorn room and absolutely loves it! The teachers have a way of making school so fun, that he went from crying every morning to literally running to get in the car to see them. It's the personal touches - the way they patiently help him settle down to nap, the way they brush off an accident instead of dwelling or shaming, they even personalize the school's annual fundraiser so parents have an idea of which gifts would be best suited for their child in particular. A couple times I had some disciplinary issues and they took the time to help guide me through my kids' changing emotions, giving me advice and listening to concerns; I truly consider them like a co-parent! You can tell that the staff at LHMS really love what they do, they genuinely care for the kids, they're not just supervising them or teaching them, they're caring for them in a holistic way. Each day they're offered healthy snacks, guided through the work to make sure they're on track academically, and given the affection and attention each individual kid needs, and believe me, my kids can be a handful, they demand a LOT of attention! I trust them with my most precious little ones, and endorse them whole-heartedly!

Nevertheless, it was a great decision to send her to KNK. She's happy, has learned a ton and has always been safe in their care. The providers are kind, thoughtful, well organized and responsive. The children get time to play indoors and outdoors through the seasons, circle time, and arts and crafts, and if parents opt in, a special class once a week (e.g., music, taekwondo). The providers also throw the children beautiful and fun birthday parties with themes and have other special days throughout the year. Although changing my daughter's daycare would make it easier for me to get to work in the morning, I've chosen not to. When you find a safe and loving environment for your child like KNK, making it work becomes a priority over everything else.

Ilana's leadership, the excellent teachers, and the sense of camaraderie throughout the school created a happy, fun place for our kids to grow and learn. There is a very pleasant balance of structured, unstructured, outdoor, and rest time each day. Over 5 years, I've seen Ilana gracefully handle many tricky situations and I think she and the teachers generally do it just right. Lolly's has four classrooms, a 2's room, a little 3's, an older 3's, and a Universal Pre-K classroom, as well as a gym. The kids regularly visit neighborhood play areas when it's warm, and healthy lunches are provided. Lolly's seems to have somewhat more flexibility around day length and number of days than other schools in the area. Lolly's runs 12 four-week months during the year, and takes four week-long breaks, usually spring break, 4th of July, last week in August, and around the holidays. It's good to schedule vacations and grandparent visits around these times. Like many schools, Lolly's is a lot easier to get into in June and September (since that's generally when the UPK students leave and all the littler kids move up). Otherwise, get on Ilana's radar early, and try to be patient. We are very grateful for the wonderful experience our kids had at this school. Good luck finding the right school for your little ones.
