The school has been unexpectedly closed MULTIPLE days during this 2023-24 school year due to facilities issues. The students and parents are notified with less than 24hrs that the school is simply closed, not once but multiple times. There's is no make-up of the curriculum missed, no reimbursement of after-school paid classes. While our daughter had lovely teachers and received a beautiful care from the school's Nurse Ms Cathy, the administration is not a match. Despite the challenges listed above and lack of resolution/ commitment, the school submitted a 11% increase of the tuition for the next year.

The bilingual curriculum (French + American) is outstanding, and even though we don't speak French at home, we've watched her become such a confident and curious learner. As a parent, I've been impressed with the Singapore math approach they use; it's helping her develop a strong understanding of math, not just memorization. My daughter also enjoys the after-school clubs, especially Cooking Club and Soccer - they've become highlights of her week. The teachers are incredibly talented and experienced. With the small class sizes, our daughter gets the kind of individualized attention that lets her feel seen and supported. This is the only school I've encountered where all the teachers and students know each other's names. The campus itself is spacious, bright, and feels very safe. There is an enclosed on-site playground for the younger grades. We are truly happy we chose this school and feel grateful for the nurturing environment our daughter gets to learn in every day.

After much care, thought and extensive research, I made the best choice by deciding to send my…read moredaughter to Hudson Montessori School in Jersey City for several reasons: 1. I was looking for a quality education experience for my daughter that was geared towards her individual needs. The Montessori Method of self-directed activity, hands-on learning and teacher guidance of children to make good choices, greatly appealed to me. In my opinion, Hudson Montessori excelled in this area with quality and experienced teachers. 2. It was important to me that my African American daughter attends a school that honors and respects diversity. Hudson Montessori does an excellent job at celebrating the diversity of its students through parent-led cultural presentations. Children are free to explore and ask questions as they are exposed to cultural celebrations from all backgrounds. 3. Lastly, I absolutely love the concept of choosing a major theme for each school year for the children to learn about certain subjects throughout the year. The annual Social Studies Fair is an excellent event that allows us to see just how much information the children have learned as they study the theme from the beginning of the school year to the end. 4. The selection of after school programs is second to none. There is an activity offered for just about every child's interests including yoga, art, chess, tennis, gymnastics, healthy cooking and more. 5. Parental involvement is just as important and Hudson Montessori has a very active parent volunteer organization. Parents are encouraged to help out in a variety of ways - through in-class presentations, movie nights, fundraisers or volunteering to assist at the Social Studies Fair. There are lots of ways to stay active. In addition, every month there are parent education nights where we can learn more about the Montessori Method and the types of materials our children use in the classrooms. 6. Lastly, the Year-End Celebration is a fantastic performance where our children have the opportunity to showcase their talents and gain confidence. This is my daughter's 4th year with Hudson Montessori and I couldn't be happier with the results. When she says "Mommy, I love school" that is the best compliment I believe that any school administrator, teacher and parent could hear. I know that I made the right choice! Thank you Ms. Jolly (Director), Ms. Maki and Ms. Gina (school administrators), Ms. Tia, Ms. Alia and Ms. Caridad, Ms. Denise, Ms. Mariana and Ms. Mahrukh for taking care of her for the past 3 years. Now that she has started first grade, I know that she's in capable hands with Ms. Shannon and Ms. Gina A.

As with any school, a child's experience is largely dependent on the teacher. My son started off in…read morethe toddler classroom with Ms. Peralta, who was an excellent teacher. My husband and I noticed how fast he developed and advanced academically. She was kind, loving, and always kept the kids busy with various activities over the course of the day. Ms. Peralta left suddenly a few months after we started, and things immediately took a turn for the worst. In fact, it seems like many of the experienced teachers had left this year, and the administration chose to promote the assistant teachers, who were highly inexperienced and lacked the proper training and qualifications. During the few months we stayed at the school after Ms. Peralta's departure, my son was moved from the toddler classroom to the preschool classroom. This was a complete disaster. His new teacher had a short temper. It was almost daily when my son would come home and tell me that his teacher was angry. I had heard from other parents in the class that they had noticed her temper as well and addressed it with director. She did not invest in the kids education, and was constantly having them sit on the floor as they passed the time. It had turned into more of a daycare than a school. My son even started forgetting the numbers and alphabet he learned in Ms. Peralta's class. His new teacher did not invest any time in the curriculum or his education. This isn't even the worst of it. A few weeks before our departure, I received a call from the school director reporting an incident that had taken place. Apparently the kids had returned from their daily play on the playground, and my two year old son was forgotten outside and left alone on the playground! Thankfully, another teacher saw him and reported the situation to the director. The director informed me that she had the intention of addressing it with the teacher and other staff. Regardless, I was absolutely livid to hear this. After this incident there continued to be no improvement in the quality of care or education, so we decided to pull him out permanently. I hope this review helps prospective parents make an informed decision on where to send their child. As I mentioned in the beginning, it is all dependent on the proper teachers. It seems like all the experienced teachers left during covid, and the administration made some poor choices with the teachers they hastily hired. I would also like to note that the school director and assistant director genuinely cared and wanted to work with our family on resolving these issues. However, it just got the the point where there were so many issues with the teacher that we could not stay at this school.

My Ex-Husband, My daughter's father works in the design and marketing department. The school allowed my Ex-husband to use his Postion as a platform to harass me for as far back as my daughter's enrollment. Each parent logs into a parent portal to track thier child's progress and I was repeatedly locked out of my parent portal from 2016-2019. My name was removed twice from the aftercare release form and replaced both times with the name of my Ex-husbands live in girlfriend. Every school event would exclude my name from it's greeting cards. I complained on so many occasions that one director of one department would just brush me off to the director of another over and over again. My daughter lives with me in New York and she's with her father in New Jersey on the weekends but her report card would read in reverse and list him as a primary address and myself as a secondary. My private maiden name was once listed on the release form instead of My Ex-husband's last name which I carry. My private family name was completely unknown to the school and the modification could have only been made by My Ex-husband himself. Each of my daughter's teachers with the exception of one were confrontational or dismissive towards me and on occasion I'd catch them openly gossiping about myself or other parents. I had a child support increase modification which the school ignored for six months and that I had to pull my Ex-husband into court for while all along it was his employer who was defying thier legal obligations. The school falsified my daughter's amount of absences and lateness on her report card so much that there was a huge discrepancy between what the teacher reported vs what the nurse reported. In court my Ex-husband repeatedly blamed the tech department for all the electronic errors all along he himself is the site developer. It's just been such a disgusting experience at Dwight Englewood for me. Last Spring I emailed the school director to confirm that I would not be signing back on for the 20-21 school year in light of the pandemic. The director informed me that she had forwarded my cancellation email to my Ex-husband and she wouldn't accept my cancellation until she knew what the court said. when I refused to sign the 20-21 school year registration form by signature the same director told me that she had just rolled my information over from the year prior and that the school could proceed without me. The Dwight Englewood staff has literally bullied me for the past three years and I do not wish to ever revisit the experience that I've had at Dwight. In someways the school operates like the Mafia, I was treated so poorly and was always treated as If the school just expected me to just except the abuse because of how big and prestigious the school was. I'm disappointed and hurt, and The school shouldn't have taken sides and the issues should have been if not rectified at least addressed rather then ignored. It definitely wasn't the nurturing experience for myself and my daughter that you read about online.
