I am about to celebrate my 4th anniversary as a member of Progress Fitness, and I can write only…read morepositive comments. This gym is a special place. Its motto is "We change lives," and I can attest that it changed mine. I hadn't exercised regularly for years when I joined. Now I'm fit and strong and many pounds lighter without "dieting." In addition, though I work hard there, I also have fun. At PF, one always works out under the guidance of a trainer. There are different kinds of classes, from strength training/cardio to tabata/toning to step or zumba or yoga. There are classes of different sizes. Some are as small as four people. The trainers are all very tuned into how each of us is doing and always have suggestions for modifying an exercise that doesn't work for any particular situation. Part of what makes PF special is the sense of community that Liza, the owner, and the other trainers have created. This is such a supportive, friendly place. I cannot imagine my life without Progress Fitness.

In December of last year I went with her to do a "buddy" workout and liked it. In the last week of December, I went to talk to one of the head trainers(Kim) for a health screen. I signed up for the one month trial that they offer. I did a "small group workout" and a Foundations workout, and really liked it! The trainers are very conscious of any limitations you may have, and help you modify any exercises that may be difficult/painful for you to do. Everyone who frequents the gym is very supportive of one another. It almost like a family! Liza Smith, who owns the gym, makes sure that everyone is taken care of and treats everyone who works out at the gym will respect. I have lost about 8 lbs in the time I've been going there. The workouts can be tough, but the trainers make them fun so you'll want to come back. If you live in the Harrisburg area, and want to get started on a healthier lifestyle, give the good people at Progress Fitness a try!!!!

Formerly a Gold's Gym, it's still pretty much a Gold's Gym concerning the equipment, space, and…read moresuch; some of the equipment still has the former's badging. The equipment is in generally good shape -- I've only found one loose bolt in the few weeks I've been going there -- and they seem almost obsessive with cleaning (a very good thing). There is a pretty good turf area with a sled and battle ropes as well. Everyone working here is friendly and helpful, and it seems to be a place where you can get in, get it done, and get out if you need. The locker rooms are clean if pretty basic. I don't use the saunas and such, so have nothing to report, but they are a thing. Light Crowd: I haven't seen it crowded at all. I should probably disclaim that I lift six days per week in the early afternoon, so I avoid peak hours and don't have any input on them; I'm told mornings are busy. When I have been there, it's been a mix of abilities and ages, with people generally keeping to themselves and being reasonable even when it's a group of younger "gym bro" types. Not Perfect Hours: I miss my gyms of recent years that were open 24/7 or at least had greatly extended hours, seven days per week (e.g., 4a-midnight). The gym is only open six days per week and doesn't seem to have the extended hours I generally expect from large gyms in other places. They were closed over a recent holiday, and I didn't know about that closure until I saw a small sign on the locked door -- there was nothing on the website nor any text/alert indicating the reduced hours. My one suggestion for this place is to figure out if there's a way to grant 24/7 access or at least be open 7 days per week. Everything else is just fine for me as it is.

I've been going to this gym consistently for at least 5 years now, so this review is coming from…read moresomeone who genuinely likes the place and wants to see it improve -- not just criticize it. This is definitely a premium gym. At $26.99 bi-weekly (around $58/month), it's on the higher end compared to competitors like Crunch where memberships can be around $12/month. To be fair, the gym does offer good equipment, solid machines, and overall cleanliness. The atmosphere is nice, and it generally feels like a higher-quality facility. However, for the price they charge, I really think management needs to do a much better job maintaining basic amenities and hygiene-related items. For example, the men's restroom has 3 sinks but only 2 soap dispensers that honestly look 20 years old. One of them has been broken for a long time -- it's supposed to automatically dispense soap when you place your hand underneath, but it either responds very late or doesn't work at all. Now the second one is also acting up. In a time where COVID and other viruses are still concerns, I find it very strange that these basic hygiene amenities are not being properly maintained. It's super annoying, especially for a gym that markets itself as premium. Again, I'm writing this as constructive feedback because this has been my favorite gym for years. I really hope management takes these concerns seriously. I'll gladly update my review if improvements are made.
