The prices are not so thrifty though, groceries can be expensive here. Anyways I came here today because I wanted to buy some supplements as I'm a bit of a health nut so I was in the vitamin/supplement section plus I wanted to use my gift card for something as this woman who I guess was working in the vitamin/supplement section approached me saying "Can I help you with anything or are you just looking?" I just felt awkward because her tone of voice was not friendly and when I replied "No, thank you, I'm okay, with a smile" she didn't smile back, just had a grumpy, bitter look on her face. I kind of felt more like she was suspicious I was going to steal something and I was being racially profiled rather than someone genuinely wanting to assist me. The young cashier up at the front was very pleasant and friendly when I went to pay for my item at least.

I would encourage management to talk to their staff, especially the young cashiers ( hate to be a curmudgeon ) that it likely would be best to halt their personal conversations while they are checking groceries. A couple of times I've had my groceries checked with two young people having a Long involved conversation, and they barely look at me. At home. It's as if I'm inconveniencing their talk time

Dumpy old school supermarket on Hastings, just W of Nanaimo. This place has been around for…read moredecades. Parking is available on Hastings, as well as the side streets. The place is dirty and old, but don't let that scare you. The place has expanded over the years, so it takes up a few storefronts, joined haphazardly by some interior doorways with ramps. Fresh food on 1 side, and boxed goods on the other. What surprised me is that they also have a hot food section. Good for grabbing a quick meal, though I didn't try. Pricing is very reasonable. Quite a bit less than the big chains I might say. Nice and basic and does a great job serving the neighbourhood.

For an independent, locally-owned business, I felt it was quite expansive and could be a place to get all your groceries from. I also love the fact that they focus on local suppliers to fill their shelves. Quite busy in there, but it goes to show what a staple it is for people in the area. Can't forget about the hidden gem where there's take-out chinese food. The portions are veryyy generous and super delicious. Even has a drink stand-area at the front of the store with a ton of options to choose from; although I haven't tried it yet, the drinks look pretty delicious. Overall, great store to get things from and very reasonable prices, just don't go at peak times because it'll be swamped!

It's been quite awhile since I felt the urge to review a supermarket but my lunch at this Save On…read moreFoods really stood out in my mind. Being a supermarket, it wasn't exactly a fancy meal. I had a greek salad which isn't anything extraordinary on its own. However, this Greek salad was somewhat unique in the way that it was packaged. It came in a cup and was labelled Greek Shaker Cup. There was a bit of space left at the top of the cup so that you could shake up the ingredients and in that way everything was nicely tossed and the flavor of the feta cheese was nicely distributed over the veggies. I was also quite impressed with the seating area that we found at this Save On Foods. Not every Save On Foods has a seating area for people to sit down and eat. This one not only had places for us to sit and eat but they were also equipped with outlets for people to plug in their phones for charging! Also, there was a little bucket of crayons for kids to do some colouring and a sign that said, "Battery low? Ask our service desk for a charger during your visit." So impressed with this Save On Foods! This place isn't really near any of the places we usually frequent when we're on the North Shore but I would still happily come back here for a simple meal again one day!

This is a nice place. Save on Foods are always clean. I would be careful when looking at prices…read morethough. The display price says $4.99 so I would automatically think it's a good deal from $5.99. I took two. I asked a store employee nearby if these are the fish that's $4.99 each. He said yes. Felt it was a good deal. When I was paying it was over $12 each. Asked customer service they said it's per 100 grams. I didn't take it as you can imagine my expectation is $4.99 then it's over $12, big difference. I don't know why stores insist on displaying prices as per gram. It's just misleading. And it's a waste of time. When I asked the employee before I took it, it was a chance to correct my mis-perception if you call it that. No it had to be when I'm paying before I discover it. You feel good thinking you have a good discount turns out it's not. Do they think you'll take it anyway? It's not a good experience!
