Well, it was a rough, busy day, no time for breakfast, or even lunch. I had a doctor's appointment near the Opera, so my husband decided we would pop in for a quick bite.
I was impressed by the array of baked goodies on display, though I did think the presentation could have been a little more attractive.
I asked my husband to get me something from the array of sweet pastries and a Melange. He opted for an intriguing object -- a croissant wrapped around a "something". He ordered a chocolate donut.
I have to say, the young man behind the counter who served us was friendly and efficient. I was, I admit, a bit puzzled that he didn't put our order on a tray, as he had done for other customers, but as our table was directly across from the counter, I let that pass. My husband was left to his own devices in seeking out serviettes and sugar.
Well, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed in the donut. It didn't taste as fresh as one would expect from Anker. The croissant was a winner, though. It was wrapped tenderly around a Debreziner sausage. It was declared "Most unusual, but surprisingly good."
But the coffee, oh, the coffee!! If I hadn't watched it being prepared, I would never have recognized it as coffee. Really! It was a hot beverage, with a very mere hint of coffee. My husband is not a great coffee drinker, but enjoys a good coffee now and then. But even he said it wasn't all that it could be.
Now in a city like Vienna, a bad cup of coffee is hard to find, and is considered borderline criminal.
It left a bad taste in my mouth. Such a pity. I did think Anker could do better than that. read more
