I had a highly unprofessional experience trying to coordinate work with this business. When the owner, Joe, called me back, he repeatedly talked over me and would not let me explain my project needs. When I politely asked him to hear me out since I was the hiring customer, he told me to "pay someone else" and abruptly hung up on me. For years My Uncle has been using Joe for tree removal at our various rental properties. 2 weeks ago I had a huge tree in my yard tip and land on my house...the heavy limbs landed on my beautiful huge bonzai tree. The way it way laying on the tree I really thought there was no way anyone could save my tree. I called joe and he responded immediately coming to look same day. Wow! A very large piece of an even larger oak tree fell on my house the evening of July 3. Mostly it fell on the garage. It also fell on my car, smashing its windshield. The next day was a holiday. Then it would be the weekend. And we were expecting rain. Oh, did I mention? The house is for sale, and we had a showing scheduled for Saturday too. Panic set in. So I called around looking for help to remove these massive limbs. Voicemail. Voicemail. Voicemail. The voicemail at Anjoe Tree Service said they were booking about six weeks out. Still, I left a desperate message, and got a call back. Joe was willing to swing by my house and look at the tree the morning of July 4. He gave me an estimate on the spot. We shook hands. And he told me a small army would be at my house the next morning. Lo and behold, a small army showed up at my house the next morning. There was a giant crane. Giant trucks. Men with chainsaws and protective gear. And there was Joe, in the middle of it all, like a general on the battlefield. In an hour, it was gone. The holes on the roof were made water tight. I wrote Joe a check for the agreed upon amount. And I was free to try and figure out how to file my very first homeowners insurance claim. There was a small issue with some large logs that were meant to be hauled away later that day. Something about some special truck that was elsewhere. We were a job that was squeezed into a busy schedule, and this slipped through the cracks. After a quick call, it was speedily resolved, and Anjoe was very apologetic for the error. Problems happen. Several weeks ago they were at my neighbors across the street working, when i got home i noticed two large tire tracks 3 inch deep tire tracks on my front lawn. When i got home from work i realized what happened they drove their large tree truck over my front lawn. they were starting to leave as i approached two guys were getting in their pickup truck, i said i need to speak to you, as i approached them in truck they sped off ( Like a couple of little School Girls) almost ran my foot over. The owner showed up an hour later i explained what happened and said they were idiots for driving on my lawn. A week later two guys showed up and put down topsoil and a cheap commercial grade grass seed. I have a special lawn ( Zoysia Grass) needless to say they ruined my front lawn. Anjoe did good work in removing a very, very large tulip poplar that was causing damage to our foundation. Given its size and how it was hanging over my house, I worried that the work would be a mess that potentially would damage my home - but it ended up not a problem at all for Joe's team. We had a number of estimates before going with Anjoe - they came in with a very competitive price but with professionalism that can be hard to find. We asked for someone to come to our house to give us an estimate on removing two trees. The actual tree removal work is fine. Absolutely no complaints. The company severing two underground lines during removal and refusing to contact any utilities or take any responsibility about the incident is not fine. The company trucks and trailers blocking the driveways of several neighbors, and the owner delaying when asked by returning neighbor to move and allow her into her own driveway, is not fine. In fact it is illegal in this city, which the owner should know (and does know, in fact.) Being approached to an in-your-face I-want-to-intimidate-you distance of inches by the large alpha male owner yelling "you f-ing b****" several times (after he was asked to take responsibility for said severed wires) is not fine. Being cursed out for taking pictures of the cut wires is not fine. Roaring off in a truck leaving employees to clean up the mess and deal with the matter of the wires (which no one did, can't blame them really) yelling "I hope I never see this street again" is likewise not fine. Though I can reassure the owner, if we have anything to do with it, that wish will come true. Good tree work, but the owner seriously needs an anger management intervention. I would seriously not recommend that any woman schedule work with this company if there's any chance you'll be dealing with this guy alone. The employees are courteous and embarrassed by the boss' antics, but that won't help if he ever went any further than just very unprofessional and inappropriate yelling of obscenities and attempts at physical intimidation. read more

For some strange reason I thought tree removal would cost millions of dollars....luckily I was utterly deluded. Joe (i think that's his name - if it isn't that is what I will be calling him for the rest of this review) and his team did quite the job. About 19 trees and overgrown bushes for 2k. So Joe is quite the personality - a bit intense but he knows what he is doing. Within 45 minutes of getting to our place Anjoe's guys had already taken down 3 trees. I have to say I was impressed and got a tad too into watching the process - I wish I could've helped out but then I felt too much like Saruman and started to feel guilty. Professional is what Joe LaPuma is we had a neighbor's extremely large branch come down in our yard (no damage to fence) and we needed another neighbor's pine tree limb hanging over garage and entangled with our house power line (Nat Grid doesn't trim)! We called Anjoe came out did estimate to remove both and a very fair cost time to remove 1 hr!! **UPDATE** Joe/Anjoe is now sending me threatening voicemails. He stated I better have a good lawyer because he is meeting with his lawyer this morning and will sue me for liable regarding my "disgusting" review. He said I have a small life and have nothing better to do than to harass him. He's the one who has left two recorded voicemails for me...so who is harassing who?? Again, be cautious doing business with this person. I found Anjoe online and on 8/9/19 we talked by phone and we agreed on $200 for one tree and an extra $50 for the stump/roots, but I would have to "wait a few weeks." I followed up on 9/14/19, since I hadn't heard from him, and he stated that he "didn't remember the job" and would have to "come back and look at it" and "didn't remember what he had quoted me." I told him the price quote and he said to send him a text with my address and he would come by and look again. I followed up with him several times via text over the next week about coming to see the project and on 9/24/19 he responded that he would come by the next day. To make it worth his while I also asked for a quote for another similar sized tree to be removed. He calls me today 9/25/19 and tells me $800 for both trees. When I asked what the break down of the cost was because the one tree was $250 and how did we get to $800....he yelled at me that "this is what the price is and if you don't like it then to go somewhere else." When I commented that this was not a professional attitude he stated "I am very professional, 32 years professional, and I am so professional that I will not do business with you" and hung up the phone. Later on that afternoon I sent a text saying that I was sorry he had a bad day and was sorry that my question was offensive to him but I needed to understand the cost, and, would he still consider doing the job for me?.....he texted me back "no." I had Anjoe remove 4 pine trees last week. Two were upwards of 24" diameter within 15' of my house; the others were closer to 16" and within 5' of my house. This crew of 4 performed flawlessly. They've got an efficient, safe, process - there's no surprises, never a close call - these guys really take pride in their execution. As far as price, if you have reasonable expectations from the start, Anjoe will pleasantly surprise you. Their equipment is expensive to buy and maintain, it allows them to work as efficiently and safely as they do, and I think their rates are quite modest for what they bring to the table.
