A couple weeks back I caught the Mactopia food truck in West Des Moines…read more The truck's staff was friendly, the wait was short, and the portions are hefty. You end up full. A good bang for your buck if you can get past that this isn't a 99 cent box of Hy-Vee mac n cheese that costs cents for a portion instead of dollars. I had the Utopian Bacon BBQ Brisket mac n cheese. Bacon, beef brisket, BBQ sauce, yellow onion, and chopped pickle (sweet relish). I wish I could catch this truck a few more times. The Utopian was really good. If you've ever had a Southern themed nachos this flavor profile will be familiar to you. Mac n cheese is one of those classic dishes, but it can be prepared so many different ways. Mactopia's menu offers a few unique spins that I've never tried before. Keep an eye on their Facebook page. They're pretty good about posting their schedule and location. https://www.facebook.com/Mactopia-Food-Truck-100101332659378/

Once I arrived at Campbell Park and saw the lineup they were offering, I had a hard time choosing which to try first. Ultimately, I settled on Paradise...as in Cheeseburger in. It was a Cheeseburger Mac, and it was extremely tasty. The portion size satisfying, and the service was extremely friendly. Hope to see them again next week, and I've followed on Facebook so I can catch them around town. If you like Mac and Cheese, give Mactopia a try for a gourmet take on your favorite comfort food!

First visit to this very cozy brick and mortar. Previous…read morereviews were food truck reviews. There is maybe enough seating for about 20 bodies in here. Here with a table top of 6. Lots of questions with our group and the young waitress is kind and helpful. She brings waters and then had to go through the list of drinks because they are not printed on anything. We got a Trio for the table. Trio is chips and salsa (mild and hot) queso and guacamole. The chips were thick and crunchy. When we ran low she filled us back up. We got our orders in. Quesa Birria Tacos for hubby and I to share. Only 3 Tacos but we knew we were going to share a light meal. I had not had them before. The aus just sauce for a taco blew my mind. I like Angus beef and dipping sauce. Who doesn't? They were really good. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. The kitchen here is smaller and when asked about a specialty item we were informed that the Ankeny location had it but the kitchen here couldn't accommodate. I want to come back and try more. I had the flame burger from the food truck years ago and I think I would do that again too.

The chips appeared homemade and were well-seasoned with a thick white queso (also a huge serving!). The quesa birria was flavorful but the meat was a bit on the dry side; I loved the dipping sauce. The street tacos were on the bland side but added flavor with the salsa and queso. Overall, it was a good meal but not stand out!

Good stuff! This…read moretruck has been parked at the Glacier Properties office in Clive for the past few days. I live right down the street...two blocks or so. I wasn't sure if they took cards or not...and I haven't made it to an ATM lately so I've hesitated to stop by. But tonight was the night...! It was a brisk night, it had been windy, and was spitting snow earlier. After a quick trip (Kwik Star actually) to an ATM I whipped into the parking lot and headed to the window. I was greeted right away as I walked up. They do take cards. There was a payanywhere station on the counter. The menu is posted on the truck along with their prices. I ordered three quesa birria tacos and a barbacoa torta. Paid and tipped. They handed me a pager so I could wait for the food where it was a little warmer. That was much appreciated. It was a really short wait...I didn't even get halfway through the YouTube video I'd queued up. Lol Staff was friendly and the food was packaged well. After the short drive home I unpacked my food on the coffee table. The smell in the car was almost unbearable... It's a wonder I made it home before breaking into it. The food was fresh and hot. It came with the expected things on the side. A red hot sauce, onions, peppers, and limes. The beef in both the birria and barbacoa tasted great. The tacos were also topped with onions and cilantro. The torta with onions, cilantro, and avocado. I really enjoyed the roll the torta came on. A little hard and crunchy on the outside to hold things together and soft on the inside. It would almost be perfect for a proper cheesesteak...if you know you know. Unlike some other trucks these guys don't skimp on the meat. It could be dangerous having a truck with birria this close to home. Something the other two trucks nearby lack... With all transparency they're not my absolute favorite quesa birria tacos... They don't serve the side of consume for dipping. But they are good! And I don't need to burn through the gas to drive over to Flame or track down Nina's or Taqueria Marissa. I'm glad I stopped. Hopefully others will give them some business too. I'll definitely be a return customer and will be checking out more of their menu! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61553402785567&mibextid=LQQJ4d
