1st visit - The Two 'Ol Chefs food truck posted up outside of my job a while back…read more It's a metro food truck I hadn't visited so it was obviously something I couldn't resist. I browsed their menu ahead of time on their Facebook page. They seem to be really good about posting their weekly schedule of locations for lunch and some afternoons/evenings out there too. I'm human so sometimes I get a little judgmental from the jump. I looked at their prices and started second guessing my lunch choice. I'm kind of a big eater and while I understand the small business model, overhead, etc. I'm always thinking about bang for my buck too. I decided on the beef brisket sandwich served on a hoagie roll with a drizzle of horseradish sauce ($10) and a large order of onion rings ($6). The staff was great. Personable and provided updates as I waited. They have pagers available if you'd rather wait inside your car instead of out in the weather. They accept cash or cards. The menu is easy to read and the condiments are staged near the window. The wait was short and the portion sizes sure didn't leave me hanging. I was asked if I wanted jalapeños mixed in. I thought she meant in the meat of the sandwich... Nope. Lightly breaded and fried jalapeño slices with the onion rings! The sandwich was STACKED with perfectly cooked lean tender brisket. The horseradish sauce was light and not overpowering. The fried onion rings and jalapeños were really good. My stomach will pay for that 2nd choice later though...along with anyone sharing space with me. The serving of rings was so large I couldn't finish them. If you're into the food truck scene I'd highly recommend tracking Two 'Ol Chefs down. Good stuff! Honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever gotten from a truck. 2nd visit - The Two 'Ol Chefs food truck posted up outside of my job again. Had to try the double smashburger... Dayum! Someone told me after my first visit that their burgers rocked.... They sure do. Fries were hot and the burger was juicy! Service was top notch. Plastic knife for a size perspective on the patties. This truck does it right!

Quick and really good and such great chefs that run it. Ate with them for three summers at the…read moreWinnebago Grand National Rally and never let down.

Let's get this straight, the Cemita de Milanesa is the biggest sandwich I've ever seen. It's really…read moretoo much for one person. If you can eat this by yourself you should be making better choices. It tastes great and its well put together. But you better be ready to share it or save some for later. It's just huge, grande, ginormas, malaking, enorme. Its a take out only food truck. No tables to sit at and it's in the Auto Zone parking lot by a very busy ice machine. This place was real busy when I arrived. Get over here and don't forget to have the Oaxaca cheese on that sandwich.

This is one of the best food trucks in the Des Moines area. It's very rare to find a place in Iowa…read morethat sells cemitas (traditional tortas from Puebla, Mexico made out of sesame seed bread). The cemitas are packed with food. I recommend the milanesa one!! Their tacos are made of homemade tortillas. You only need one because they are ENORMOUS. Very few Mexican places have good horchata or aguas frescas because they are usually watered down with all the ice. I recommend the agua de melón and agua de horchata. This is all good quality food. They have other traditional dishes from Puebla. Everything is fresh, delicious, and with generous portions. The customer service is phenomenal. They treat you very well! They are approachable, friendly, and patient. It was my first time there and I had a lot of questions. They kindly answered them. They also have a great system. They have speakers and call out your name when your food is ready that way you don't have to stand outside waiting, you can just wait in your car. We showed up at 10:45pm and they still had tons of people ordering food. When you see a lot of people ordering, it's a good sign. I also love supporting this business because they started from the bottom. They used to only cater and sometimes sell at the bailes. They worked so hard to make this food truck a reality. They also support local non profits. They always give back to the community. Support local!

I was able to try a new truck today that I hadn't made it to yet... Street Eats DSM…read more Klickle showed them right off of 47th and Westown and I remembered it was food truck Wednesday over at the Regency buildings (4700 Westown Pkwy in West Des Moines). They normally park on the South side of the buildings... Last year there was usually three or four trucks out there every Wednesday...this year only two most of the time. I've had my eye on Street Eats DSM and as luck would have it they were parked alongside one of my other favorite trucks today...Jack & Vinnie's (owned and operated by Club 2000). But I came for Street Eats DSM...got to stick to the plan. I'd already scoped out the Rocky Balboa online. Philly style beef, natural cut fries, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and American cheese on a large hoagie roll... The other menu items sure looked really good too. Ordering and paying was a snap and I was surprised when they handed me a buzzer to signal me when my order was ready for pickup. What is this madness? Is this witchcraft? A truck using a buzzer call system... Have pigs flown and hell froze over? I have no idea what this costs to maintain, but I hope other trucks start using this... My buzzer went off after a short wait and I grabbed my sandwich and headed to the car for the short drive back to my office. The sandwich was $9 and a can of Coke was $1. So a total of $10 before tip... My biggest issue with some food trucks is that I don't feel like I get the amount of food I would at a restaurant. Probably why I like Jack & Vinnie's...this is never an issue with them. It's not an issue with Street Eats DSM either... I am pleasantly full, not stuffed, but I feel like it was money well spent. I'm not usually a big fan of potatoes on my sandwiches, but the fries were crispy and added a nice crunch along with being very filling. The sandwich was cooked well...all components...and the staff provided really good service. You can't expect much more than that off a truck. A big thumbs up. Glad I finally caught up with these guys. 2nd visit. Stopped over at Regency West for Food Truck Wednesday again. Street Eats DSM and 515 Pi were there. Top Bun and Roadside Tacos were no shows. So... Street Eats DSM again it is... As I said previously they had other menu items I wanted to try anyway. :) I decided to try the Cajun tacos today and I made sure to say hello to Aaron. He's a nice guy and the man can cook... I ordered the Cajun tacos...one shrimp and one catfish. 2/$7. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly. The other ingredients were fresh, and the remoulade has a great flavor to it. Like Jack & Vinnie's this is a truck I don't walk away from hungry or unhappy. Great service. The menu items are a good bang for your buck as far as size/quantity and quality. I know fish and chips and shrimp and fish tacos has been a hot item lately... I'd suggest putting this truck on your to-try list for both. The buzzer call system they use is genius. It would probably have been more efficient today if I hadn't been standing in front of the pick up window talking. (Dates of service: 07/11/2018 and 07/18/2018)

The truck was set up in the parking lot and the line was just forming. The menu was written on a chalkboard. The details of each item were very thorough. I was very interested in the chicken bruschetta. We ordered and it took about 3-5 min for the fresh food to come to the window. Oh my it was huge! Starting from the bottom was a big ol bun. Then was the hot fresh French fries..Oh and then the shredded chicken, bruschetta, and pesto mayo and cheeses. I thought the flavor was fantastic and wished I didn't have so far to walk back to my company so I could eat it right down. The amount of food was too much for my little mouth so I had to get it back to where I could cut it down again. Next time I am skipping the bun and having it all on fries!!
