Love love love this pet boutique. It's definitely one of the best in Buffalo! First off, I love the atmosphere. When you step in, you're likely to be greeted by a shop dog (the golden retriever girl is an absolute delight - loves to be pet and is the calmest pup you will ever meet). The staff I've spoken with here are always so friendly, so obviously pet owners when you have a conversation with them. There's a great amount of passion in their pets, and the products they provide at this shop! All of the treats and food here are so obviously carefully selected - the brands they have here are free of all those preservatives and by-products that your average dog treat brand has - and the best part is, they're all fairly inexpensive! I've brought home a couple of different kinds of treats from here, and my dog absolutely loves them. I found out she goes crazy for lamb and was recommended these small hard cookie treats, and she'd probably eat the whole bag if she could. They've also got some really cute apparel and accessories here! My dog is a bit too big for a lot of their outfits, which seemed to just be for tinier dogs anyway. But they've also got some really nice collars with different unique patterns on them, and leashes! Let's not forget the dog toys too - they've got an assortment of enrichment toys, eco-friendly, pull ropes - you name it. I've been going to this store for years to get my dog and cats food, toys, treats and collars. I would never go anywhere else, Omar has only the best products and you couldn't ask for better customer service. Recently they opened the 500 Seneca location and I took my dog there for a bath, the room has everything you need and high end shampoos. The mud treatment for shedding actually works, I have a German shepherd that has been shedding more than usual but since the treatment it's been a great improvement. Omar and everyone that works for him is so helpful. They really care about the customers and their pets. I always tell everyone to go here. read more

The owner is super nice and this store has probably some of the best customer service I have ever received. The owner was not ONLY friendly and approachable but literally remembers people's names and dogs. For example, Our good friends shop here for their dog. When he asked if I needed help, I mentioned how I was recommended this store by my friends since my boyfriend and I are getting a rescue dog most likely in the next upcoming weeks . He asked to see a picture of my friend's dog so I showed him and he instantly not only recognized the dog but also named off her owners and mentioned a few personal things about them! It was impressive and shows that he really cares about his customers and their animals. I also witnessed in this same visit him chatting with regulars and even offering to deliver the food to their home when it comes in! In regards to selection, there is a adorable selection of dog collars as well as some toys that I have not seen in other pet stores such as Pet Supplies Plus and Petsmart. Animal Outfitters also has some dog vitamins, shampoos, chewing bones, food as well as cat items such as food, some toys and vitamins. I bought a Buffalo Love collar for my future dog. Because it was for my future dog, I asked about the return / exchange policy and the owner told me it was no problem to exchange it for a smaller size if it didn't fit our dog and to bring in our new family member as soon as we get him/her so that he could meet them. Based on my experience and the recommendation from others, I have no problem strongly recommending Animal Outfitters. The prices are almost comparable to some sites online but even so I don't honestly mind paying a a few dollars more to support local while really receiving excellent customer service and truly sharing the passion of loving animals. read more

Omar is a great shop owner very caring and loving towards all the animals that come in(also humans too). Ordered two bags of dog food which were delayed a week so Omar gave me a free bag of food. What a fun stop for our pup! We recently were at the dog park and wanted to stop at a pet store to treat our Ellie before heading home. This is a super cute boutique pet supplies shop in Elmwood Village, largely skewed towards dogs with a few cat items as well. Selection includes a variety of the more expensive, healthy pet foods (probably a good resource if you're particularly concerned about your pets diet), a similar spread of non-rawhide dog chews and treats (we decided to try some of the Himalayan yak chews, as well as some of the bacon and peanut butter frozen doggy yogurt for the hot day), some adorable stuffed toys and some hardier silicone/rubber chews for rougher players, and a really cute selection of patterned collars and leashes (including some Buffalo themed ones). Prices are what you would expect given the caliber of items and boutique style of the shop. Overall I would say this is a great place to stop every once in awhile when you're looking to give your pup some luxury treatment and support a local business! read more

Animal Outfitters is THE BEST pet shop in Buffalo. Not only is it locally and independently owned, but they are incredibly accommodating and will always make sure you get what you are looking for. Omar, the owner, is incredibly knowledgable about pet's health, foods, behavior, etc. If he doesn't have something you are looking for, he will definitely order it for you. Our dog eats a raw diet and when we were looking for her food, Animal Outfitters didn't stock it, but they started ordering it in just for us and beat other local prices. Omar and the staff quickly learn both you and your pet's name and they make shopping for your furry baby a totally fun and enjoyable experience. Omar at Animal Outfitters is one of the most knowledgeable, kind, and invested business owners I have come across. We have two dogs, one with the digestive system of a well-oiled machine, and the other, a Westie, who is allergic to Beef, Wheat, Corn, and Soy. (so much so, he poops BLACK WATER when he eats run-of-the-mill dog food.) Because of the Westie's issues, we have found ourselves at pretty much every pet store (big box and local) looking for someone to help us make the best choice for food--for both the pup's health and our pocketbooks. As much as I would love to feed our dog an all raw, super healthful, organic diet...we are not really at the point where we can even feed OURSELVES that way completely...so we have to go with the next best thing! Omar has helped us pinpoint the best food that agrees with both our pup's tummies. His prices are lower than any other place we have found for our particular brand. I am not sure how his prices compare for other brands, but I am almost certain that if you found a cheaper price somewhere he would probably price match! His customer service is top notch. No one wants your business more than he does :) He is so accommodating that he has even offered FREE DELIVERY SERVICE--which is incredible, considering we moved from the Elmwood area and now are not always able to get over to that area as quickly as before. I have mixed feelings about Animal Outfitters. They are locally-owned, which I appreciate... and whenever I have gone, they have always been very friendly. However, I recently had an experience, that makes me feel as though I don't want to give them my money. I will still give them 4 stars because their product is high-quality and their customer service is spot on. If that is all you are interested in, you can stop reading now... However, here is my deal... I have two, 100 lb dogs in my life. I adore them. I would do nothing, intentionally, to hurt them. I walk them for an hour a day... we go places where they can run off-leash, or we walk around the neighborhood. They come home and they sleep the rest of the day. They are happy dogs. Anyway, back to Animal Outfitters... I recently "Friended" Animal Outfitters online... After a few days, they posted a status about giving a discount to people who turn in prong, choke and e-collars. Immediately there were comments from people judging those who choose to use these forms of collars. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have 200 lbs of dog on my hands. I use prong collars. I was taught by Typer Muto, of K9 Connection (see my review) how to properly use a prong collar to: 1 - not hurt my dogs, 2 - not hurt myself. Either of which would limit my ability to take care of them. Whenever we go out, where ever we go, I receive comments from people about how well-behaved my dogs are. (In fact, last time I went into Animal Outfitters with one of my guys, I received compliments from the owner... AND my boy was wearing the prong collar). It was a lot of work, but not a lot of pain. If I used a harness, I would be dragged all over the place. If I used a gentle-leader, the dogs could damage their necks. So I chose a prong collar... and I am very happy with my choice. And I think my dogs are as well, seeing as they practically jump into their collars when it is time to walk. I guess I am just saying... I don't appreciate the judgment from Animal Outfitters and their Facebook friends. I don't plan on shopping there from now on. read more

Animal Outfitters is the best pet store in Buffalo, hands down. Omar and his wife, Susanna, are the owners and consider all the dogs who shop there as their extended family. When I adopted my dog 4 years ago, Omar worked with me to find the right food, offering a few free trials until we found what agreed with my dogs system. They deal top-quality food you won't find at the big-box stores, and they do it without the attitude that some of the other stores (cough cough....Elmwood....cough....Pet....cough) give you. If they don't have something you need or would like to try, they will get it for you. Omar has experience as a vet tech, and all the dogs love him. I've called him or stopped in several times for advice, and he has always been helpful. We recently ordered a gorgeous new dog bed from Omar, for significantly less than we would have paid online. Don't assume that online is always cheaper, plus, Animal Outfitters stands by it's products. Will you generally pay a little more for a small, independent retailer? Yes. Do you feel better about supporting your neighbor and knowing where to go it you have a problem? Definitely. There is a reason other pet stores are trying to copy what Animal Outfitters carry in stock and how they do it. Because they are the BEST! read more

Animal Outiftters is the BEST pet shop I found in the US to-date. It is clean, hip, and super friendly! Whenever I'm in a different city (ie. Georgetown, Washington DC, Baton Rouge, Alrington VA, Austin TX) I check out the pet boutiques, none of them hold a candle to AO. Seriously the best customer service- the employees are great and will answer any of your questions- one of them even clips my dog's nails for me! The prices are competitive- maybe not if you're comparing them to online prices- but HEY, if there's a problem with the merchandise, you can return it and the employees will help you pick out something that works better!!! We've been using Animal Outfitters for about 6 months and my dog (10-months old) had changed dramatically! He is SO much more social and gets along with all size dogs. The facility is immaculate and the dogs are remarkably well behaved. It's indoors with means the dogs learn to play quietly and interact with the "camp counselors". There is ALWAYS someone with the dogs and they are monitored closely. I like the on-line appointment service and the 10-package pre-paid option. read more

Animal Outfitters is a magical place. It is the canine equivalent of Duncan's Toy Chest from Home Alone 2. Cool stuff, amazing owner, and just a great vibe over all. I can't believe yesterday was the first time I'd ever been in this store! It won't be the last! Next time I'm bringing my 4-legged sweethearts in with me, so they can experience Duncan's Toy Chest for canines! I even ran into Kelly B, who owns her own pet business, and also loves Omar and Susannah, the owners! That's saying a lot. Kelly has very high standards for all things canine. So to know she loves this store and the people who own it, it says a lot! Omar and his wife Susannah are awesome. Their pup Star is a SWEETHEART and loves anything related to cookies, treats, or belly rubs. :) Omar clearly loves what he does and he treats all of his customers like gold. You don't get this type of service at other pet supply stores. Not at all. I found so many cool things in the store for my dogs. I'm addicted to buying them cool collars and AO has several cool ones! I also loved their selection of fleece sweaters. My Boston Terriers need the extra layer of warmth in the cold weather, and next year we will be sporting fleece from AO! I bought each of my pups cow tails. They love pig ears, cow ears, lamb ears, etc. so I knew the cow tails would be a good selection for them. I love that Omar said they carry natural, healthy, no made in China type products. I REALLY appreciate that, considering how often we see recalls on treats these days. When I got home, my pups smelled their delicious treats and ripped the bag in my hand, they were so excited to feast! They did their ritual of running around the house, trying to bury each of their treasures. Then they got to the step where they run around stealing each others' treasures and growling loudly, even though they each have one, so it's ridiculous. Then they finally got to the step where they laid on the floor next to each other peacefully, and chewed, and chewed, and chewed. The cow tails are substantial and kept them each busy for well over an hour. And they only made small dents in the tails, so they've got several hours of chewing ahead of them. As a "dog person" I can honestly say that Animal Outfitters is the BEST place in Buffalo to shop for your pet. I have been buying my dog food and treats from Omar and Suzanna (and Marcus too!) for years. I know I can go there, be greeted by name, and ask questions on nutrition, ingredients or the brand on anything in the store. The AO team is always helpful and kind, offering me unbiased information, without trying to make a sale. It means a lot to me that they know me and my dog. In an age of big box stores and national retailers, it is incredibly comforting to speak to someone who knows there stuff and actually cares. It isnt just a job. If you have any misgivings from any other reviews, I encourage you to stop in and look around - the store is lovely. Even if your visit consists of a few minutes of love for Star, the canine member of the Animal Outfitters team, you will see what their patrons see - that the shop is a real asset to pet lovers and the community at large. Couldn't say enough great things about this place: location, facilities, the people! My dog is happy to go into daycare, and also whenever I pick up. Everyone that works there is very friendly and caring, easy to talk with and you can tell they geuinely care about every dog they have there. They keep a certain number limit on the dogs per day which is hard for scheduling (just do it in advance, their online system is easy or you can call) but I think it's great because then they're able to provide a better quality of care and watch to all that they have each day. Dogs running and jumping to play can happen anywhere dogs and kids are combined. Since it doesn't sound like this was the owner of the pet shop's fault in any way I would not hold it against this place. We came in to Animal Outfitters today for the first time with our dog and we were greeted very warmly. The owner of the store trimmed our pup's nails for free and had a lot of great advice for us. When I was still living in Buffalo, my landlord mentioned to me that she always shops at Animal Outfitters, and that I should give it a try. We decided to take our dogs together, and since then, I have been happy that I did. The shop is on Elmwood, but it is far enough away from the usual congested shopping areas that I have never had an issue parking near it. The owner, Omar, is just great. He always seems to remember me, even if I haven't been there in a long time. I know he special-orders items for my landlord quite often, so if there is something that you want to get for your pet, I think he would probably do his best to get it for you. Most recently, I went to the store this past Saturday because I heard that you could bring your dog to meet Santa and get pictures taken. It ended up being so much fun! Omar was dressed up as Santa, and they hired a photographer to take digital photos of dogs on Santa's lap, and then you could choose which photo you wanted from the many that they took. It was such a fun, unique way to kick off the holiday season. The one and only complaint I have is that it can be a little more expensive than the chain pet stores, but then again, that is generally what one expects from local businesses, and they do have many items that I never see in the chain stores. We just went to this store for the first time to day as my 7 year old son opened the door he was attacked by two bull dogs. as the dogs were attacking all the owners could yell is close the door afraid the dogs would run away completely unconcerned about my child. We of course walked away. As I was fairly angry I decided to go back. I was not greeted with an apology as I thought would be appropriate, I was told the dogs were just playing. Two dogs not on leashes lunging at my son did not seen playful. I was also told "well you had dogs too" I'm not sure how this justifies other dogs attacking someone. My dogs were on leashes and the dogs attacked my child not my dogs. I did receive a very sarcastic apology. Unreal, needles to say we will never be back. read more

Omar and Star rock the house! (Star is the dog. Star lets Omar think he runs the place, but of course everyone comes to the store to see Star.) Lots of great products for dogs and cats packed into a cozy store just off of Elmwood Ave. Omar stocks a lot of American-made products, high-quality dog clothes and gear, and excellent food. Our Otis loves the food and we keep coming back for that and many other things -- treats, bully sticks, etc. Staff is great. We took our olde english bulldogge, who has food allergies,here, and Omar (the owner), not only gave me the supplies and information to correct his problems, he GAVE us a sample bag of food to try, offered to deliver his food if the weather or our schedule did not permit us to come in, recommended indestructible safe toys that our dog loves, and spent a LOT of time answering all our questions! I frequently shop at Animal Outfitters and they are the BEST pet shop in Buffalo... and all around the Buffalo area! The customer service is excellent. The store owner, Omar, as well as all of the staff, are very personable and will quickly get to know both you and your pet. Your pet is welcome to come to the store to be a part of the shopping experience, or even to have a little social time. He has a variety of products including pet toys, pet winter gear, food, treats, food storage (that's cute for the home, too!), pet beds, leashes, collars, hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc. etc. Omar is very conscious of the products he places in his store. He has unique, sometimes (and most often) hand-made items. Some of the products may be more expensive than what might be found in chain stores, however I have found that his products, such as the toys, are more durable so to pay more pays off. All of his food and treat options are healthy for your pet. Omar and the staff will also help you find and meet all of your pet's needs and are very knowledgeable about pets. He helped me to begin a new food for my puppy as she was transitioning to an adult and she loves the food. He also helped me notice when my pup needed a little more oral care and has referred me to places in Buffalo, such as a local groomer and vet. It's an all-in-one stop shop. He also frequently has other services at his store, such as pet photographs, pet CPR training, and other, extremely helpful and useful classes/seminars. I got my first puppy over 2 years ago and I was sometimes lost until I found Omar at this shop. It's a great place to get all of your pet items and hang out on a Saturday afternoon.
