Needed some goldfish for Nowruz (Persian New Year/1st day of spring)...I was passing-by on high street so I thought I'd give this place a try. Service was attentive, friendly and quick. As we walked to the back where the fish tanks are I was surprised to see ducklings, prairie dogs, sugar gliders and chinchillas. Reptile game was also strong...prices seemed decent. I asked out of curiosity the cost of a duckling...19$...heck that just seems like a good deal! I grabbed my fishes and was on my way before I ended up coming home with a bunch of furry friends. read more

Animal House - Pet Stores Near Me - Morgantown, West Virginia

My trip to Animal House in Morgantown WV today was anything but pleasant. This is the second time in the last month I've gone into this establishment, each time seeing first hand, horrible conditions for the animals inside. The first time I went in, I was appalled to find multiple snakes with multiple layers of stuck shed, snakes with ticks, and just overall neglect of the reptiles. When I inquired about basic care being met for these animals, I was met with a lot of finger pointing, and blame games. No one wanted to accept responsibility for the conditions these animals were in. A friend and I spent over an hour of our time deshedding a carpet python that the employees and volunteers refused to even handle, we then received a rat which wreaked of rot, and had very recently had its eye gouged out. Whether by another rat or self-inflicted, is unknown. Today, when I entered the store, with the intention of purchasing a replacement rat, I discovered the ball python pictured below. This seems to be one of the ball pythons from my previous visit that was infected with ticks. So I took a picture and then alerted the owner of the dead snake. The owner immediately went on the defensive, asking why I was taking pictures of a dead snake, and sarcastically asked me if I wanted said snake. My response was "well I sure don't now!" She then continued to blame the death of multiple reptiles on the fact that her "overnight shipment" had not arrived for an extra few days. However, the smell of rot in the tank with the ball python, and the state the corpse was in made it clear the snake had laid in there dead far longer than any length of time considered "reasonable." She then tried to blame the smell on one of the many baby hamsters in the tank with this dead snake, and then proceeded to ask me if I'd seen if the OTHER snake in that tank was dead too. She ended our interaction with "I better not catch you taking pictures in the store again." Based on what I've seen, I can only reason that the treatment of these animals is severely neglectful. I hope that by sharing this, either the public is more aware of the conditions that Animal House provides for its animals, or that Animas House improves those conditions. I post this, not to be slandering, or to be mean-spirited, but solely out of concern for the animals. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The conditions all of the animals are in are abusive. The animals were crammed into enclosures that were too small and not clean in the slightest. Puppies were inactive and ones hair was clearly falling out. They were definitely sick and looked to have fleas. The kittens were in no better shape than the puppies. The reptiles and birds were in very bad conditions and seemed to also be sick. Overall, this was the worst pet store I have ever seen. Don't give this place any money, they will just continue to abuse and neglect animals. read more

Animal house is a great store. The workers are very friendly and interactive with customers. I had gotten a ferret there in September and they were very helpful and gave a care sheet. The prices are very fair for ferrets or at least for mine due to her color. read more

This place should be shut down for animal neglect, if not downright abuse & possible illegal activity! We stopped in yesterday & despite being only in the 70's outside, the inside of this place was sweltering. We began perspiring immediately. There was no A/C or air circulation of any kind besides one useless fan by the front door. The furries were listing about in their cages with their little chests heaving. They had an alligator in a tank at LEAST two times too small for his size. His nose was literally crammed into a corner because he could barely turn around & his water looked filthy. Also, they have PRAIRIE DOGS, which I am pretty sure is illegal, since prairie dogs are not even remotely a domesticated animal. I might be wrong but it seems shady. They also had a giant parrot or macaw outside the store in an open cage. His beak & nails were in desperate need of trimming & there was nothing to keep someone from stealing or harming him, not to mention any little kid could have walked by & gotten bit if they tried to touch him, since there was no employee outside monitoring the bird. Overall a TOTAL disgrace to the pet care world. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. WORST SMELL i have ever smelled in my entire life. DIRTY AND DISGUSTING I do not know how this place is allowed to stay open. Animals are infested with fleas. The smell of it is so bad you can barely walk in without wanting to turn around and run out the door. Too many pets in one area being neglected it looks like a petting zoo with all the animals lined up (and smells like one too). read more

I wish I could give negative stars. I took my 5 month old pitbull puppy there while I went to FL for the weekend to visit it family and it ended up a complete shit show. They injured my puppy resulting in his leg being broken and then called the pound and told them that he was dropped off to them that way, which was not true. Why would they have let me drop a dog with a broken leg off to be borderd. Doesn't make sense. They then lied to the pound and said that it was a stray but then proceeded to give them my phone number for them to contact me. Basically they fucked up and then tried to cover up their tracks instead of taking responsibility. I wouldn't even recommend stopping in to use their bathroom. Disgrace of a company and I wouldn't even drop free change in front of their store for them to pick up. Negative 20 stars and my lawyer will be contacting them very soon. read more

Almost never open when they say they are, or they close early. The hours are terrible to begin with, not opening till noon and closing before most people get off work. What should be a convenience turns into a giant pain in the ass just trying to use the store. Some days they are supposed to be open they just stay closed with no notification. At least ten times I have shown up well within their business hours on their normal open days to find them closed with no explanation. Today was the last straw, closing at 4pm SHARP (They had posted on their DOOR their hours were 12-5) with several customers still in the store, just minutes before I arrived. 3 out of the last 4 times I tried to use the store I have been screwed by their random closures. It's a shame because they are the only place in town that consistently has live feeder mice and rats for sale, but being fucked over time and again by them being closed, it ruining my plans for the day and being unable to feed my animals in a timely manner has finally been the last straw. I will drive to the Mileground instead just because I'm so tired of this. read more

I adopted a 12week old kitten about a week ago from Animal House. When I got her, I was told she did not have fleas but she received a flea treatment anyway, and that she was good to go. There was no paperwork given about her, her health, or any history. When I got her home, I noticed she had fleas EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately, that was not the biggest problem, a week later my kitten became very ill and I ended up having to take her to an ER vet clinic. The vet then informed me that they receive numerous animals, adopted from animal house, that are severely ill... This place neglects the needs of their animals & refuse to clean/maintain the cages...it's always dirty and hot inside...it needs to either be closed down or go under some major changes. read more

My sister got me a 6 week old kitten from here as a gift. It was completely infested with fleas! In addition, it had roundworms and an upper respiratory infection! She said the area it was being kept was fairly dirty. While I am not happy about the vet bill, it was worth it to get the poor healthy again. Are you not monitoring the animals health in this place?! read more

Walked into the store today to look at the kittens they had and when I walked in on a 90+ day there was a fan blowing and it seemed to be very useless, ok then when we walked back to see the kittens , I saw dogs in crates , 2 in a cage to small for one and same with all the other animals. When I finally did get back to the kittens I wanted to buy every animal to get them out of this cruel habitat. Now speaking of the kittens same as everything stated before the kittens were framed in a small cage 3 per cage. And the top cage had one kitten who seemed to be dying and they were still tryna sell the poor thing instead of taking it out and making sure it was ok. This place should be closed immediately read more

I should've listen to other reviews before. I was hoping for the best, a healthy kitten to take home. Not only was my kitten sick the day after I got her, but it turns out she had worms, ear mites, and parasites. Be sure to include the veterinary costs when deciding to purchase an animal from here. The worst part is I asked where the animal originated from, and they assured me healthy kittens were being delivered to their shop. Liars! Don't shop here. read more

Very disappointed and let down by the appearance and ownership of this pet store. Not only is the place a mess, but the animals by far are being neglected. Two of the kittens had flee collars on, and nowhere did it say that they had flees until I saw one. If you pay with cash, you will not get a receipt. When speaking to the owner, she explained how the place had been "robbed"... completely inappropriate to tell a customer. The employees are hard to recognize, are not wearing name tags and have no idea how to get help. Customers may hold and play with animals, which I liked, however this place needs to be checked out. read more

Visited this place on a stop through the area. It is very well kept and the current staff seem to have a real passion for these animals, contrary to some old reviews. Stop in, these folks are good people with a good shelter. read more

Animal House takes in unwanted and unhealthy animals to find them a new loving home. These people are very passionate about what they do and the way that they do it. My friend and I are college students and the owner of the store was VERY kind and friendly. Most of the animals are recuses. Their prices are fair. Their cages were clean. The people were very friendly! read more
