Goodbye Joey
Rae L.

My cat got out and we couldn't find him. Animal Control stopped by our house to let us know that our cat was hit by a car and didn't make it. The officer told us that the Animal Foundation would call to arrange cremation. With little notice they were able to arrange a wake so we could pay our respects to Joey. The room was tastefully decorated and beautiful music was playing. They washed Joey and wrapped him in a towel. The service exceeded our expectations. Everyone we spoke to showed us so much kindness and compassion in our time of grief. We miss him so much. We have his ashes.

We took my oldest girl to The Animal Foundation today for her routine shots and overall it was a really good experience. Check in was super easy and the front desk staff were friendly and organized, which I always appreciate especially if you have pets that are a little anxious walking in which you see a little of from other dog parents. Our baby hasn't ever had a bad vet visit so she is happy walking in, even sits on the chair like she is waiting patiently for her turn. We did wait a little past our scheduled appointment time, but it honestly wasn't a big deal. Once we got called back, the doctor and nurse were both very kind and easy to talk to. They didn't rush us and actually listened to my questions. I asked about a small bump she has, and they gave helpful advice and explained what to look out for, which gave me peace of mind. They also complimented my baby girl for being so healthy and well behaved, which made this proud dog mama happy. Overall, the staff was caring, informative, and professional. We'll definitely continue bringing our pets here for routine vaccination care.

Looking for a pet for the family, look no further than the Animal Foundation. From cats, dogs to fish, lizards and bunnies they have a wide variety of pets that literally need a loving home. They have puppies and older animals, all begging for a nice place to come home to. Take a look at the site and filter for your type of animal and enjoy the funny names they give. We have adopted various animals (dogs and fish) and have been happy with saving them. Thank you, Animal Foundation. Charitable events here as well, like reading books to animals in the shelter. Fostering is available as well. Contact them for further details. They also accept donations to help save animals via link on their website: https://animalfoundation.com/get-involved/make-a-contribution/ From 9am to 9pm, if you need pet help, call the hotline at (702) 760-PETS Tip: They offer 1/2 price for Military/Veterans with ID. There are also over capacity events where all adoption fees are waived.

I lost my cat on Sunday, April 12, and I'm trying to be reunited with my cat. After my baby potato went missing, someone found my cat and brought my baby potato to the Animal Foundation. They told me they were unable to locate the owner, so instead of taking my baby in another family ended up taking my baby potato. I was later able to get in contact with the people who originally found her through the Ring app, and that's how I learned what happened. I'm incredibly heartbroken and just want my cat back. My baby potato is very loved and has a home with me. I'm respectfully asking for any information that could help me get in touch with the family who took my baby potato , or any guidance on how I can be reunited with my cat. This situation doesn't feel right, and I just want my sweet baby back.

On the local morning news, there was a story that caught my attention, adoption fees would be waived, for the entire month of August. I don't know if this is still true so I looked it up of Fox 5 News Las Vegas, but I couldn't find the story. NEW RULES FOR CLARK COUNTY, as of August 2025 all dogs must be micro-chipped So I just took a look at the website to see which small dogs were available. Out of 33 small dogs, only 8 were fee-waived dogs. With the recent animal abuse cases, which resulted in death, (Reba's Law- reference) we humans have got to do better. It is so sad to see this. As an animal lover, and a petition signer for Animal Rights, it breaks my heart. We've adopted the last two female dogs from this organization, one of them is still with us, currently, she is 14 years old. I know that this organization has had some issues in the past. I don't know if it has improved.

I had an amazing time fostering the dog Holley today. I took her out for an hour and a half and we went to the park. We did a few laps. We went on the soccer court we played around. I got to cuddle and pet her, give her water, she didn't want any treats. She was just so energetic and hyper. Well what you can do is go take her out for an hour or two a day if you want to you can actually take any dog out that's here at the shelter and the process took about an hour long, but otherwise I will come back and I really enjoyed my time here. Everybody was super nice and the environment is really beautiful. Thanks THE PHOENIX!

Info

My experience with The Animal Foundation was heartbreaking. My dog, Doughboy (who they listed as Thor), was my emotional support dog. After we moved to Las Vegas he accidentally slipped away, and I searched everywhere for him -- checking shelters constantly and calling around. Eventually I discovered he had been picked up and taken to The Animal Foundation, but when I called they told me he had already been adopted the day before. What was especially upsetting was the conflicting information about his microchip. The shelter listing showed no microchip, but when I called I was first told they had tried contacting me through the chip. Later I was told the chip actually had the previous owner's information, which is why I was never reached. I understand shelters have policies and I respect that he now has a new family. I am not trying to take him back. However, when I asked if they could simply forward a message to the adopter so I could ask for the chance to see him one last time and say goodbye, they refused. A small act of compassion like forwarding a message could have meant the world to my family.

We called her Lola, please give her a home. DO NOT RETURN HER TO THE STREETS. She will not survive

I'm writing this with a heavy heart. I recently found a lost cat in my neighborhood who was clearly someone's pet so friendly , gentle, and desperate for help. She was outside in over 100° heat with no food or water, and I had been feeding and caring for her for about a week. She would let me pet her and pick her up she was not feral, just scared, hungry, and lost. When I first called The Animal Foundation, the person on the phone seemed very knowledgeable and reassured me that I could bring her in. However, when I arrived the next day, the information I was given completely changed. At intake, I was asked for my ID before they even checked for a microchip, which felt strange and unnecessary since I made it clear I was just trying to help this poor animal. They finally scanned her no microchip, which didn't surprise me because many pet owners don't have their cats chipped. The staff member told me I had two options: take her back with me or surrender her. If I surrendered her, she would be spayed, vaccinated, have her ear cut, and then be released back to the exact area where I found her. I was completely heartbroken. This cat is clearly not feral she was so skinny when we found her, became very affectionate, and had tried several times to come inside my house. I explained that I couldn't keep her because I own two exotic pets, and that my neighbor has openly threatened to exterminate the cats in our area. I begged them to understand that sending her back outside could be a death sentence.... Despite all of this, I was told that was their policy. I left devastated knowing that this sweet, trusting cat might not get the second chance she deserves. I'm writing this in hopes that someone at The Animal Foundation reconsiders what's being done to lost, not feral, and simply in need of compassion and a safe home. Please, give her a home she deserves it. My neighbor has made comments about unaliving the cats in the area or as he put it "exterminate" Please, I plead with you do not return this cat to the streets. She is not built for that life, and her safety is at risk. Find her a home. Have some compassion for these innocent lives who depend on us!!

Must you take photos why we are contemplating taking one of these kitties home?

Walked around. Saw a Dog we wanted to meet. A woman with shoulder length blonde hair showed up, we asked to see a dog this past Saturday, she said, ok, then disappeared. Ends up she was taking photos of a doggie being adopted by their new owner, super sweet. Please, if you offer to help, to show people a dog, do so. If plans change, come and find the people to let them know how long before we will get helped. It's conscious customer service. Thank you kindly.

This place is great. They have many dogs and cats in the shelter. More medium-large dogs. If they are over 1 year old, the dog is free of all charges. Walked out with my dog after just signing a few things. They supply you with dog food and you get a free visit with their vet. They give you lots of information on the animals. My only complaint is the wait times. We came around 4pm and were put on the meet and greet list, but at 6:45 they stopped all the meet and greets and we did not get a chance with her. We were not made aware they were cutting it off until we were at the #1 spot then removed. :( We had to return the next day. It's understandable, they're probably short-staffed and it's a long process. She was spayed for free which definitely is an extra plus. Healthy dog. Staff is kind. Would definitely adopt another fur baby another time!

Spent a couple of hours here and was really impressed. The facility is big, very clean, and the kennels all seemed well maintained. I met a few staff members and everyone was friendly and clearly cares about the animals. Tons of dogs, but they also have cats and some small mammals. The adoption process is straightforward, and a lot of the adoption fees are waived. Great experience overall!

Summer

We ended up adopting, they do have a lot of dogs. A lot of cats as well. They all vary from ages, but a lot of them of course are older. We adopted a 3 yr old named summer and she is the sweetest, she has not barked and was house trained and is very leash trained. Cost us only 10 bucks instead of thousands for a puppy at a store. The line is what took the longest though. They also give you a date for spay or neuter. Bag of food to take home.

Have you ever walked into a undesirable unkempt shelter. One where the sanitation was questioned. It most likely hinders your desire for adoption. As no animal should begin a new life , with a newly adopted family. While still healing from the traumatic experience of previous harsh living conditions. This animal shelter which was founded in 1978, is now based on the fundamentals of Sanitation sanctuary. A refined pet bungalow bunkers with plenty of volenteer and staff accommodations .Nowadays, the foundation focuses on their doggy day match program. Rather than lengthy background checks, animal foundation priorities short term dates. A concept that values the pet owner connection over rushed processed adoptions.

All four in the kitten pile on my lap. Omg I died of cuteness overload.

She decided that if she did get a cat, she wanted it to be a senior cat at least nine or 10 years old and she wanted a black cat. I checked a few rescue places and came up upon homeward bound cat rescue. We went clear across town to visit and we're really happy that we did. We spent some time visiting with one of their senior cats. I don't know how someone passed her up. She is very friendly. She did hiss a couple of times at homeward bound, but I think it was because she was afraid and didn't know us ...but you could tell that she had a good demeanor as she started to warm up after we spent a good 45 minutrs or more there with her. She came and sat right next to my sister. She actually then crawled up onto my lap. We knew that she had picked us as her new humans. She will come when you call her name and she has litter box trained. She will also come give you a little head but to tell you, she loves you. She is friendly with me and my husband. The intake form said she was a little nervous with other people coming into the house, but we've had several people interact with her now and she's never had that issue. I don't think it was a cat issue. I think it was the people issue. We're really happy we found homeward bound cat rescue. The facility is very clean. They do have quite a few cats. They have their own rooms and some of them have a couple of cats together so that they have a friend or they're bonding, but I love the fact that they weren't all sitting in cages having such high stress like you see at some of the adoptions at the pet stores or PetSmart, etc. It is truly a wonderful place and the ladies there are exceptional. The intake form was really not that long. I don't know what other people on the reviews are saying that it was a difficult process, but I would hope that they would be selective and talk to each person and get some information and have you sign adoption papers so they're doing everything the right way. Even If you don't need a cat at this time, at least go to their website and make a donation.

Her only concern is if for whatever reason it doesn't work out and we have to come get him your all the way in Georgia and not that we're saying it won't work we just have to think of every possible scenario for Avalanche's safety is all. But you seem sincere and I've been talking to her about it." I then told the foster mom I would sign whatever needed that would require me to return him to Nevada. The foster mom and I then messaged everyday. I got all the things he would need and want. I got the food he was on, his favorite treats, toys, brush, leashes, collar, harness, toothbrush, shampoo, seat belt for his harness, bed, crate etc. I scheduled a vet appointment and two daycare evaluations locally as well as to meet with a professional trainer. Then on 06 DEC I was emailed that I cannot adopt him as I live out of state and that's their policy. This was the first I was told that policy. I've since offered to fly out there (I was going to have a rescue group transport him for me which I filled out all that paperwork) and rent a car and drive back myself (2,000 miles). I offered to do a FaceTime and have any other person they trusted that was local (from another rescue organization) to see my home as they require a home inspection. Now they are messaging me telling me "Please reach out to those rescues who will make exceptions. We will not make the exception. Thank you. We will no longer entertain ANY messages or emails from you as we have been clear on our end". I feel betrayed as I couldn't sleep the night they told me. I kept looking at everything I had ready for him and crying. I thought rescuing an animal was the right thing to do and instead I'm left with a broken heart. It's not okay what they did to me.

We run into Nutter Butter that had just arrived at the PetSmart on 2140 N Rainbow Boulevard. I believe his arrival date is 5/52026. My wife and I immediately love him, but our determination was based on how he reacted to our children. Our daughter is four years and our son turns two in July. We knew he'd be shy, but Nutter Butter responded very well to our children, and that's what made us take the leap of faith to bring him home. Less than twenty-four hours later, Betty the Adoption Facilitator sent me a text at 7:33am, denying our adoption request, and even went to the length of stating that she refrains from adopting to family with small children. She informed me to wait until my children get older, THEN at that point we can adopt a cat. I expressed to Betty that Nutter Butter was very receptive to my children and that's what made us sure in our determination to adopt him. I would like to state that Betty was not present for my family meeting Nutter Butter. After informing her that I felt this was blatant discrimination, and that I'd be filing a complaint, she immediately requested to meet her at PetSmart so we can discuss adoption at 6pm today. However, the initial encounter was so negative that I canceled the meeting. If this is how your adoption facilitators conduct themselves when dealing with families that want to give cats a loving home, then this adoption company isn't very helpful to the cats they serve. My daughter cried when I informed her of the very abrasive text message Betty sent me. What she texted me after in a disrespectful and condescending tone is what moved me to file this complaint. This really turned a hopeful and memorable moment into a terrible experience with this adoption company. Adoption Facilitators like Betty are hurting the company, and evermore the cats they continue to house.
