Great shelter overall! As we were looking for a dog to adopt, it seems everything was clean and the dogs were cared for. We have been here 2 times before and the volunteers have been very kind until today we had a negative experience with a volunteer named Jose. It seems he was also trainer and his trainee Bianca was nice but Jose was visibly ignoring us after he asked questions and staring at his trainee weirdly. It seems he was too occupied flirting with his Trainee than listening to our answers after HE asked a question and he would walk away to flirt some more and then come back and ask us the same question. The trainee didn't seem to be flirting back and just trying to do her job and learn. Even seeing one dog took us over 30 minutes after we were already up in the queue. Shoutout to Sosa though!! I filled out an application to become a foster. I walked in and within 2030 minutes Taylor was such an amazing help. She told me everything I needed plus made I had all the information I needed to take care of the babies plus all of the supplies. Animal Foundation My husband and I were looking for a Syrian hamster and they didn't have any. We got to say hi to dwarf hamsters and bunnies. There were only a few cats which was incredible, because so often they are full. The dogs, though, broke my heart. Their cages are clean and the animals were all healthy, just sad and lonely. We went to kennel after kennel and it was just heartbreaking to see so many sweet, beautiful, adorable, and needy dogs. It makes me want to beg all of Las Vegas to please go and adopt a sweet new dog, but I know that not everyone wants a dog or can have them for whatever reason. My cat got out and we couldn't find him. Animal Control stopped by our house to let us know that our cat was hit by a car and didn't make it. The officer told us that the Animal Foundation would call to arrange cremation. With little notice they were able to arrange a wake so we could pay our respects to Joey. The room was tastefully decorated and beautiful music was playing. They washed Joey and wrapped him in a towel. The service exceeded our expectations. We took my oldest girl to The Animal Foundation today for her routine shots and overall it was a really good experience. Check in was super easy and the front desk staff were friendly and organized, which I always appreciate especially if you have pets that are a little anxious walking in which you see a little of from other dog parents. Our baby hasn't ever had a bad vet visit so she is happy walking in, even sits on the chair like she is waiting patiently for her turn. We did wait a little past our scheduled appointment time, but it honestly wasn't a big deal. Once we got called back, the doctor and nurse were both very kind and easy to talk to. They didn't rush us and actually listened to my questions. I asked about a small bump she has, and they gave helpful advice and explained what to look out for, which gave me peace of mind. They also complimented my baby girl for being so healthy and well behaved, which made this proud dog mama happy. Overall, the staff was caring, informative, and professional. I lost my cat on Sunday, April 12, and I'm trying to be reunited with my cat. After my baby potato went missing, someone found my cat and brought my baby potato to the Animal Foundation. They told me they were unable to locate the owner, so instead of taking my baby in another family ended up taking my baby potato. I was later able to get in contact with the people who originally found her through the Ring app, and that's how I learned what happened. I'm incredibly heartbroken and just want my cat back. My baby potato is very loved and has a home with me. I don't know if this is still true so I looked it up of Fox 5 News Las Vegas, but I couldn't find the story. NEW RULES FOR CLARK COUNTY, as of August 2025 all dogs must be micro-chipped So I just took a look at the website to see which small dogs were available. Out of 33 small dogs, only 8 were fee-waived dogs. With the recent animal abuse cases, which resulted in death, (Reba's Law- reference) we humans have got to do better. It is so sad to see this. As an animal lover, and a petition signer for Animal Rights, it breaks my heart. We've adopted the last two female dogs from this organization, one of them is still with us, currently, she is 14 years old. I know that this organization has had some issues in the past. I had an amazing time fostering the dog Holley today. I took her out for an hour and a half and we went to the park. We did a few laps. We went on the soccer court we played around. I got to cuddle and pet her, give her water, she didn't want any treats. She was just so energetic and hyper. Well what you can do is go take her out for an hour or two a day if you want to you can actually take any dog out that's here at the shelter and the process took about an hour long, but otherwise I will come back and I really enjoyed my time here. My experience with The Animal Foundation was heartbreaking. My dog, Doughboy (who they listed as Thor), was my emotional support dog. After we moved to Las Vegas he accidentally slipped away, and I searched everywhere for him -- checking shelters constantly and calling around. Eventually I discovered he had been picked up and taken to The Animal Foundation, but when I called they told me he had already been adopted the day before. What was especially upsetting was the conflicting information about his microchip. The shelter listing showed no microchip, but when I called I was first told they had tried contacting me through the chip. Later I was told the chip actually had the previous owner's information, which is why I was never reached. I understand shelters have policies and I respect that he now has a new family. I am not trying to take him back. However, when I asked if they could simply forward a message to the adopter so I could ask for the chance to see him one last time and say goodbye, they refused. I'm writing this with a heavy heart. I recently found a lost cat in my neighborhood who was clearly someone's pet so friendly , gentle, and desperate for help. She was outside in over 100° heat with no food or water, and I had been feeding and caring for her for about a week. She would let me pet her and pick her up she was not feral, just scared, hungry, and lost. When I first called The Animal Foundation, the person on the phone seemed very knowledgeable and reassured me that I could bring her in. However, when I arrived the next day, the information I was given completely changed. At intake, I was asked for my ID before they even checked for a microchip, which felt strange and unnecessary since I made it clear I was just trying to help this poor animal. They finally scanned her no microchip, which didn't surprise me because many pet owners don't have their cats chipped. The staff member told me I had two options: take her back with me or surrender her. If I surrendered her, she would be spayed, vaccinated, have her ear cut, and then be released back to the exact area where I found her. I was completely heartbroken. This cat is clearly not feral she was so skinny when we found her, became very affectionate, and had tried several times to come inside my house. I explained that I couldn't keep her because I own two exotic pets, and that my neighbor has openly threatened to exterminate the cats in our area. I begged them to understand that sending her back outside could be a death sentence.... Despite all of this, I was told that was their policy. I left devastated knowing that this sweet, trusting cat might not get the second chance she deserves. I'm writing this in hopes that someone at The Animal Foundation reconsiders what's being done to lost, not feral, and simply in need of compassion and a safe home. Please, give her a home she deserves it. Look, I'm all for nonprofits but being a patron of this one was a NIGHTMARE. We were picking up a friends cats who were surrendered there and transporting them back to Arizona for the friend who was unable to get them himself. We show up the day of - the friend has already filled out all the paperwork - only to wait 2 HOURS to tell us that we couldn't get the cats that night. They knew our situation and could have easily told us this 30m into our visit when we spoke to someone. We were told they could be picked up the next day if they were both neutered (which they were) by 12. One cat was available one was not. So we waited. Until 4:30 when we were told we could go. Then we proceed to wait another 40m only to be told the cats were in a different building. Now I understand the one-star reviews. Wow. Came here again hoping to do a meet and greet with a cat and had a really frustrating experience. On January 31 around noon, the employee with long reddish blonde hair who was working behind the double doors near the dog suites was extremely overwhelmed and unhelpful. She struggled with the computer system and could not clearly explain the process to potential adopters. She kept telling people to use the computer when she actually meant the app, which left multiple people confused. She was not tech savvy and could not handle even a small line. I ended up helping another adopter figure out what to do because they were left completely confused. To make things worse, someone who arrived after me was helped before I was. I understand that she was trying her best, but the situation was poorly handled. Employees need better training with computers, apps, and basic customer service so adopters are not left frustrated or ignored. I adopted two kittens from here and they are so brave and sweet! They bonded with our other two kittens immediately and my boyfriend and I the next day. All four of them were in a purring cuddle pile napping on my lap today and I just couldn't stop happy crying. The staff here were all great and all the animals seemed well cared for. I brought a friend to get loaner traps for TNR to the clinic side. The lady at the front desk had colorful hair and a bright smile! She was kind and trying to multi task with a busy lobby. They do vaccines there. But no longer spay n neuter, which would be great if they did. My review is based on that lady's customer service and her positive attitude. The borrowed traps also mean you can take then to a local spay n neuter clinic to get community cats fixed. It's a wonderful resource to stop the growing cat population. A year and a half after my previous experience was a huge surprise. I visited on a Saturday. The shelter procedures are much more organized. Upon entry, visitors can scan a code to fill out info and get a number in line to visit or adopt dogs. (You can walk thru the kennels and browse if you want first.) My phone does not scan, so I was able to check in at the front desk. (technically challenged) After getting the number, down the hall is a place to sit and wait. There is a TV with updates of various kinds. You can see your number come up. You also get messages on your phone for your update. Eventually, your name is called and a desk rep takes your info. You wait awhile outside and the dog you want to visit is brought to you. The place is very clean and with only a few people (like my visit) it is quiet. There were quite a few people looking at dogs. I did not adopt a dog. I went there to sign up to be a foster. That desk is also organized for foster, day trips, and more. Overall I was greatly impressed. -- However, I can never give 5 stars because I believe there are too many animals not given enough chance, some aren't even seen because they're not in the browsing area, and far too many are killed. I understand that different factors play into this, but I have noticed, via a rescue group I'm in, that some euthanasia is given too quickly, in my opinion. read more

This place is always busy. Which I'm happy for. Unfortunately they are very understaffed which is really hard for them to do their job at 100%. However, all the kennels with the dogs had piss and poop all in them and they were just stepping in it. It's smart that they have a system for a Queue because it's extremely busy, which is great because that means animals are getting adopted! However, because the line is so long and the staff is so short they have meet and greet rooms that are all empty so if you go deciding to adopt, make sure you have the entire day to dedicate to this because it takes a long time. I would also recommend looking around the facility at the cats and dogs before while you are in the meet and greet queue because if you see a pet that you want, you can automatically go back and adopt it in the system and you will get your paperwork done faster there. Unfortunately, they only have cardboard boxes to put cats, which they hate, so if you have a cat carrier, maybe bring it in the car to transfer the cat, or else it's gonna be a wild ride. There are times where because they're understaffed the animal that you want looks available, but then you find out hours later that it is adopted so I would just check with the people in the front desk before getting your hopes up. Lastly, I do recommend you do donations when you adopt they are in dire need right now for help so if you're looking to volunteer definitely now is the time! My friend adopted a cat and it was only $25. They gave her a shot and she's still going to get spayed. The dogs are a little more expensive range $200+. So be prepared. Some of the genders are undetermined, which means that they most likely haven't been looked at since they've been in the kennel because they've been too busy or animal won't let them touch them. I volunteer here and see it from another perspective where the organization is severely understaffed and the volume of terrible pet owners returning their pets and their litters is WAY TOO HIGH. TAF does the best they can with limited resources all while keeping a good pulse on every pet they have. Every pet I have taken out has been described perfectly to a T through their trainers. Even though this is considered a high kill shelter, it is solely due to the fact they will get overcrowded and have to make room for terrible pet owners bringing back their pets because they were too old, too young, not enough time. If I could leave negative stars I would. I stayed in constant contact with the Animal Foundation when my four animals were taken by Animal Control due to my management company forcing an illegal and retaliatory eviction. I went above and beyond to keep them in the loop, starting a WEEK before their 'legal 10-day hold' was up, but we had already started the reclaiming process. Although any 'supervisor/manager' there will tell you that they 'followed everything to protocol,' except the part where someone on the Adoption's side RELEASED the hold on all FOUR of my animals, the very same day we had planned for me to pick them all up. Initially the hold up was that my forced eviction also resulted in being illegally detained on a 72+ hour suicide hold, with zero knowledge on what was going on, and most importantly, where my animals were. Luna has been with me since she was 8 weeks old, basically throughout the entirety of my 20's, and is not only my emotional support animal, as is Ranger, who I quite literally rescued off of the street when he was dumped by his breeders because he likes the sound of his own voice too much. Not only did I call daily, multiple times a day, but also visited in PERSON most days not only to check up on my animals and make sure they were okay, as 3 of them already have substantial trauma from being mistreated prior to my rescuing them, and the Animal Foundation made an exception and allowed me back to visit them individually. We had agreed for the pick up date to be Tuesday, April 1st, and I had even gone in when they opened so that I could sign off on Ranger being neutered per state law. Which was one of the major hold ups in my officially 'reclaiming' them in the first place. They continuously insisted that all reclaiming paperwork had to be done not only in person, but all at the same time. Which quite frankly doesn't make sense when Ranger would need an additional day there to come out of Anesthesia. I arrived at 11:30 in the morning to sign said paperwork, provided my animals litter number, as they were being held as a BONDED PACK, so in what universe taking two of them away and off for adoption is even OKAY by any definition of the word is absolutely mind-blowing. No one on the reclaiming/rehoming side informed me that their hold had been released, because they could not see it in their system... which is a massive issue in itself. Not to mention, that between the time that I had arrived in the AM to sign off on paperwork, and felt bad for the girls at the front desk as they were absolutely slammed, and told them I'd come back later that day before they closed to pick up ALL OF MY ANIMALS. Again, no notification that their hold status had been changed. By the time I got back, I was informed by a Supervisor that 'two of the dogs had been adopted out sometime that afternoon,' and I knew immediately without even asking which two those were. Because I know my animals. They're my family, and my emotional support, and the Animal Foundation has quite literally brushed off the situation as 'they followed procedure/they're not a boarding facility/they're no longer you're PROPERTY/etc. (like actually wtf), by ill-mannered 'Managers,' (STARR and KENYA) who treat animals and the people who love them as 'Property' per their OWN words, and do absolutely nothing to rectify their massive error. Turns out that it was a CLERICAL issue, story of my life. Apparently they have 'a lot of new people training on the Adoption side, and unfortunately this has been happening more and more often,' which quite frankly is not only shocking but appalling to hear that being admitted by one of their very own long-time staff members. The following day when i received that heart-breaking news (and I've returned nearly every single day since with them giving me the run around and faux apologies as if they actually CARE that they've absolutely destroyed my little family), they basically stated that they 'had left messages for the NEW OWNERS, and had not heard anything back,' basically giving these random strangers who have had my animals for less than 3 days at that point the CHOICE on whether or not to return animals that were not legally adopted out in the first place. This place has gone to absolute sh** in the last year, and they have absolutely NO business operating a business as sensitive as animals, especially when they're making MASSIVE, life-changing mistakes due to clerical issues or them having system errors/lags (which I personally witnessed numerous times) - when I went back the following day one staff member said 'they were all still there,' which i nearly broke down in tears, only for the supervisor to come out, refresh the system, and point out whatever TINY TINY note stated that Luna and Ranger had been adopted out. Not only was I given the runaround for weeks, given fake sympathy, and now a full shut-down of 'there's no need for you to come into the foundation in person anymore...' read more

This is the WORST animal adoption process ever! Animal DMV. You walk in and no one greets you. They just stare at their computer all day and pretend you're not there. That's for starts. Then you have to scan the barcode of the cat that you're interested in, wait an hour, and then get a text message stating that someone might be adopting the cat ahead of you and now you lost your turn and no chance of meeting a cat. You spend half your time staring at your phone wondering if it's your turn because it's an hour wait just to move up three spots. Like a DMV. I absolutely hate technology and it's so sad that it has gotten to this point. So one hour later my four year-old son left empty-handed because of the inconvenient, pathetic wait. You also can't hold kittens under 3 months. Go down the liiiiiiist of problems there. DEFINITELY going elsewhere. read more

My review is based on their vaccine clinic and foster program only: I did some weekend foster field trips with The Animal Foundation and it was a surprisingly smooth process. After being approved through their online foster application, I simply communicated with staff via email to set up a date and time to pick up my selected foster animal. Staff is quick to reply. They provide all the information, food, and supplies you'll need. It was my first time fostering ever and I soon learned that my cat at home was NOT a fan of other animals in the house. The Animal Foundation was very understanding and was quick to set up a time for me to return my foster albeit earlier than expected. For their vaccine clinic, I love that it is affordable. Easy to schedule online, though it is only open a few days of the week. You check in, pay upfront, and then a staff member eventually comes to take your pet to an exam room. You must stay in the waiting room while they vaccinate your pet, which takes about a minute. My only complaint is that they are never on time. After waiting over an hour and being number 2 in que for a meet and greet i got an automated message saying i could meet the pet but could not adopt it since they were closing at 7.i live across town with a 4 year old. I've adopted two different dogs here and returned recently to foster even after the first experience I had was absolutely TERRIBLE. Me and my husband adopted a husky that was already neutered and a rottweiler that wasn't neutered. The husky came home and adapted no issue. The Rottweiler had to stay overnight to be neutered and was fine the first 3 days but once his meds wore off he turned aggressive because the surgery was done improperly and inhumanly. They make these dogs stay overnight to get neutered which i understand they don't want more dogs having to be placed in shelters. But if that's the case they need PROFESSIONAL vet techs to be handling these surgeries not entry level practitioners. We recently went back to try and foster to adopt a dog their systems went down and said there was a "glitch" and the dog we were metting with was in priority with someone else so we couldn't take her even though she was in our care right then and there. Also went as far as to stop our meet and greet early and when i expressed my concerns to the employee LINDSAY, she said it didn't matter and just walked away. When I went back inside to try and put my name down to foster adopt the dog if the people weren't gonna take her she gave me an attitude and tried arguing with me and when i expressed i wasn't gonna argue back and just had a question she walked away and said "IM GOING ON LUNCH" and didn't help me. This facility is very unprofessional from the way they handle and treat these pets down to the employees. If you want to adopt or foster a pet PLEASE with my greatest concern go to NEVADA SPCA. We've fostered and adopted dogs from there and they were much more well kept and you could tell the difference between the environment just off the dogs emotions. Nevada SPCA also expressed to me this happens very often with the animal foundation and recommended us to not go back. read more

We adopted a female rescue dog (LOLA) about 2 months ago. She had a rough life before us. She blended into our family perfectly with our other 2 dogs. She was energetic, warm, loving and loyal. The Animal Foundation told us that she would have to be spay/neutered at their facility. We offered that we would have that done in Pahrump by our veterinarian, but they refused. On July 16th we took her into Las Vegas to have the procedure done. After surgery we brought her home and she started having urinary problems as well as bowel movement issues. We took her to our local veterinarian, and he found infection throughout her abdomen caused by uterine tissue left inside that got infected. Needless to say, if we were allowed to have this surgery done by our vet, the outcome would have been much different. Lola, passed away through euthanasia 30 minutes ago. We are heartbroken. It is hoped that the foundation will change its policy regarding spay/neuter before more animals are lost due to this surgery. read more

!!! THIS PLACE GAVE OUT OUR DOG !!! Long story short our dog got lost, and someone found her. They took our dog to the animal foundation where she wasn't even processed correctly. She was basically given out to someone in the lobby who was waiting to adopt, we weren't given 72 hours as stated in the law of Nevada to claim our dog, but yet here they are on the news complaining about not having room to take in dogs, when someone like me who is trying to get their dog back home. I've waited two hours just to meet a dog. I was told if I want to meet another dog I will have to enter the line again after I meet the first dog. AND, if I like the dog and want to adopt it, it's a two hour processing wait time. At minimum you're looking at waiting 5 hours to adopt a dog, and that's only if you are sure about which dog you want. Meanwhile, all of their play areas are empty. Their process is completely broken. It should not take this long to meet a dog. There are so many employees and volunteers walking around, so why is only one persons name being called every 30 or so minutes??? One employee/volunteer should be able to help three people at a time in separate play areas. That would get 3 people help every 20ish minutes at minimum. Someone needs to change the policies and find ways to expedite this process. read more
