Originally, my prescription was for 1 1/2 pills, which meant I had to split a pill each day. At my last routine physical, I mentioned to Dr. Kastl that I had been taking 2 pills instead because it wasn't always convenient to cut them, and the difference in dosage was minimal. She agreed and officially changed my prescription to 2 pills. Six months later, when I requested a refill, I was told I had to schedule a medication check before it would be approved. I scheduled and attended the appointment, which lasted about five minutes and involved no meaningful discussion or changes to my treatment. The following week, I received a $150 bill for that brief visit. I contacted Dr. Kastl multiple times to express my concern and pointed out that, based on my understanding of Michigan law and federal guidelines, the medication I take does not require a mandatory six-month follow-up. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or showing any empathy, my messages were dismissed by simply stating "it's our policy". In this situation, patient care took a back seat to billing. After being a loyal patient for years, I was extremely disappointed by how this was handled. I will not be returning to this practice and would encourage others to carefully consider their options when choosing a primary care provider.

Then three months later I felt pain in my chest, and my heart rate was high suddenly. I went to see him again, he said it's nothing, just your muscles and he prescribed muscle relaxer! I took the pills for another week and got worse. Called him, he said maybe your heart then, do the blood test. I did the blood test immediately and then although the test result was normal, he called me and asked me to go to the emergency room on Saturday night at 10 PM! We went to ER, were there until next morning and did lots of tests, and everything was normal (they told me we don't know why he sent you to ER at all but if you like you can ask him to write a CT scan to be sure everything is ok!) I called him to send me a CT scan order he told me I should schedule another appointment and see him again to give me the test order!! I scheduled another appointment and went to see him, and he said ok if you want to do the CT scan here is the order (he could do that without asking me to go and pay for another visit). I told him BTW I had thyroid problems before (he knew that from my files), do you think we should test it too? He said, hm it's not from thyroid but why not, let's test that too! I checked my thyroid, and it was super high!!! Finally, it turned out that it was my thyroid, not my heart or muscles !! I ended up paying 3000$ for ER and 400$ for the office visits !!! I WILL NOT recommend him for anything more than an annual checkup...

I have severe health anxiety and felt extremely comfortable in Tracy's care. When I came to this office, I was already annoyed by the 20-30 min wait times before you're even called into a room. The office staff is never accountable or apologetic for anything. If anything, Rose and Gabby go out of their way to be petty. If there is an issue at the office they will never speak to you, they make other people call you back. Rose did a PA for a medication once, under my maiden name, after already giving them my new married name and new drivers license. I went round and round with the pharmacy and the office until I requested to see the PA approval form. Had Rose taken two seconds to speak to me about it, she would've realized her error. Instead she was rude to me via email correspondence, and made it seem like I was the reason for all of the confusion. Don't even get me started on the amount of times I have had my prescriptions sent to the incorrect pharmacy and 30 day refills after requesting 90 day refills for non-narcotic meds. I have lapsed in my medications that cannot be stopped abruptly 3 times because of their inefficiencies. When I spoke to the office mang., Brandy, regarding my frustration's of the office, her response was wild. She said and I quote "yah F*&k my life, I gave two many employees time off with checking to see who was off first". I myself work in a medical office and am appalled that the office mang speaks to patients in this way. Even after all of this, I stayed because Tracy is a WONDERFUL practitioner who actually listens to you. Well, today was the final straw. After being scheduled for med refill and bloodwork appt, I showed up for my appt, only to be told that HE'LL be in shortly. When I asked who "he" was, I was told Dr Patterson will be in to explain everything. I have historically only seen Tracy the NP, and had never even met Dr Patterson. Brandie the office mang never once said anything to me that my provider had changed, let alone that Tracy was no longer even a part of the practice. After waiting until 9:20am for my 8:40 appt, I walked out. I asked for a records release to sign as I was leaving and could hear the back office talking about me. How I just "walked out". Now that Tracy is gone, I will never return to this office. Dr Patterson is transitioning to concierge medicine and will now be requiring an annual fee for tiered patient care. I already pay my copays, deductibles, and coinsurances. I would never pay an annual fee for a Doctor who doesn't give a shit about how shitty his office runs or how they treat their patients.

The Dr said her daughter had the shot and wouldn't be able to live with herself if she hadn't and ended up getting cancer later in life. Turns out, the Dr had all sons, so she basically lied to me to guilt us into getting it. Thank GOD I did my own research and denied it!!!! Maybe do some research St John's on the research now on the HPV!!!! You're hurting not helping the teens you are committed to injecting!!!! My middle daughter had mono her junior year of high school. The Dr had tests done and told her she should probably stay home from school for a couple months and quit soccer because her levels were so high. There was nothing they could do for mono. My daughter was devastated nevertheless! She worked hard for years in academics and in soccer working towards a college scholarship. This would have all ended if I listened to one of their Drs. Instead, I went to my holistic Dr who has diagnosed correctly and cured EVERYTHING in my family for 20 years. He gave her supplements to take regularly and get rechecked in 2 weeks. St Johln Peds did NOT want her retested after 2 weeks because according to them, there was noooo wayyyy she'd be better so fast. Yes, yes she was retested and her levels were back to completely normal!!! In fact, another player on her team was diagnosed with mono a month later and I got her the supplements my daughter took. Once again, her levels were completely normal after only 2-3 weeks, not months like they predicted!!!!! She got her soccer scholarship and is thriving no thanks to the Dr at St John's that suggested she quit!!! My son, my youngest, needed a sports physical last spring and a referral for insurance to a chiropractor for his strained neck. I waited for over an hour to get into the exam room. When the Dr finally walked in, the first comment she made was, "Your son hasn't been in for quite some time!" I replied with, " He has been happy and healthy with absolutely no illnesses in years!! Isn't that a good thing?" She complained about him not having all his vaccines up to date. I countered with my reasons why I have not. She gave a 5 minute cough cough/ slouch over/ touch your toes/ press on the stomache yearly physical. I then asked for a referral for a chiropractor so my son could have relief from his neck strain. Side note: When I called their office, St John's could NOT just email the referral to the chiro because my son had not been in the practice for a few years. I had to wait a couple days for their next appointment to be seen in person while my son is in agony and cannot sleep because of his neck. I just needed a referral!!!!!!!! After the Drs yearly physical and what I asked for: sports physical and referral, the Dr explained that my son was no longer able to come to St John's because he wasn't up to date on a couple vaccines. I thought it was a joke?!!! Are you seriously kicking us out of your practice? I had all 3 of my kids coming here for 15 years since we moved to this area? She couldn't have been more of a robot with her reply, "Sorry, it's our new policy." I was so in shock and so angry that I didn't realize til I got home that she never filled filled out a sports physical nor provide a referral for my son to see the Chiro!!! A month later, I didn't get just one, but tather2 certified letters stating my son is no longer able to go there. So, St John's Peds, I've been wanting to write a review, call your office, ect telling you how grateful I am that you kicked my son out of your practice. I had the time and patience, however, this morning to get this off my chest. I dragged my kids for their yearly physicals, got all the vaccines necessary, paid all my co-pays; I did my part. My kids were rarely ever sick, but I did it anyways because I thought it was the right thing to do. You, however, didn't do much when it really mattered with all 3 of my kids. You are not a pediatrics office, you are a corporation now. Shame on you and shame on your Drs.
