Just so there's no confusion, I'm going to start by saying I do not recommend that anyone buy anything from the store. I used to shop here, but I will never again. I purchased clothing at Anik for decades. They always had a good selection and while pricey, they have really good brands and I could always find something I liked. The last time I shopped at Anik, I purchased many items, even though I knew I was likely to return some of them. They always had good things, so I figured a credit would be fine. While I kept many of the things I purchased, I did end up, bringing back a few things and ended up with a large credit, something in the neighborhood of $600. I keep my credit slips and gift cards and try to use them rather than let them slip away. Many months later I came back to the store and picked out several things to buy, but when I presented my gift receipt they told me there was no way for them to confirm the credit on their computer system and the credit was no good. That's called robbery! I almost felt like calling the police, but I talked myself down from that and instead decided I would let the world know how deceptive they are and never go shopping there again. Never been inside, but I live across the street, and the owner uses a leaf blower every single morning and evening, disturbing my work meetings and personal time and sometimes even sleep. You're not allowed to use a leaf blower in Manhattan at all, due to noise and air pollution, so I have now reported them to 311. read more

I am a little surprised at all the hate for this store. I've been in here a few times and have admired their window displays more than a few times. Today I took advantage of their sale and made my first purchase. The sales staff is very friendly, perhaps too friendly. You wonder if the item truly looks good on you or if they are trying to pad their commissions but the hubby assured me that my purchase looked totally fab on me. Make no mistake, this is not a low end shop. You will spend serious coin here but the clothes they sell are sold for comparable prices elsewhere. I have shopped at Anik several times on the UES since I used to work very close to their store on Madison. I have to say that when they have a sale it's a good one BUT I agree with what everyone is saying about the service---awful! I went in one day to buy a top for an opening I was attending that evening. I had bought two tops from another store and wanted one more choice to throw into the mix to see how they matched with my new Joe's. I picked an adorable top and took it home to find that it would simply not work for various reasons with my jeans and shoes for the evening. I went right back the next day to return the item and knew they would only give store credit--fine. But, the saleswoman looked at me in such a nasty way and said that the item looked worn!!! How insulting since the item was in the same bag and had tags on still! I was so upset by what she said I have not been back since...even to use the credit! I was in desperate need of something 'inexpensive' but attractive to wear for a special dinner one evening, but finding reasonable price tags on the Upper East Side isn't always easy. I decided to walk into 'Anik', and soon realized that a $300 sundress was not in my budget. I was about to walk out when I noticed the word 'outlet', and was very excited to find that in the back of the store, they sell out of season clothing for a good discount. There were rows of dressy white and black pants, skirts, a variety of cute cashmere shirts, and long flowing skirts whose popular brand I can't recall. I bought a narrow black dress skirt, size 0, and a green sweater to match, all for less than $100. Regularly, this outfit would have cost around $250. I thought I was clever for finding another great deal. That night, the skirt slit ripped almost immediately. It was too tight, however - even a bigger size would have been tight, because of the 'fit'. I'm a tiny girl, and I've never seen a size '0' that doesn't fit - in fact, sometimes 0 is too big. The shirt also ripped a few hours into the evening. I had both items patched, and both items ripped again. I've bought clothes at Strawberry that doesn't purport to be 'designer' clothing, with hefty price tags - that I still have today. Overall, I was extremely dissapointed with the quality of this so called 'designer' clothing, and I will never go back. read more

This place carries recognizable designer brands like Theory, Juicy Couture, Michael Stars t-shirts and denim lines like Citizens of Humanity, Diesel and Seven for All Mankind. That pretty much puts it in the same category as a lot of other boutiques in the city. I was drawn into the store after seeing a cute summer dress from Collective Clothing in the display window. I recognized the dress because I bought the same exact one from a boutique in California for $45. I was excited to see that Anik carried the affordable line of dresses and tops until I saw the price tag: $136! The store had a couple of other CC pieces that were just as overpriced. Ridiculous. The customer service is lousy. I managed to make it around the entire store, and walked past 3 different sales clerks, without anyone asking if I needed any help or even saying hello. I rarely write review of a store but I was just at Anik where I had the most unpleasant experience with the man who claimed to be the owner. It is a retail store and pretty pricey. Last winter I had purchased a Magashoni sweater at that store. I usually buy one or two sweaters a year and because I live on East 77th Street this store is very convenient. This was a Black ,Cashmere Cableknit Crewneck. Over the course of the year it began to pill terribly. I took the sweater to Todd Layne Organic Cleaner and asked them if they could help with the pilling. I left it there for a while and just picked it up today. It was still a mess so I brought it into the store to see if they could tell me anything about it. The Owner immediately was extremely confrontational demanding a receipt and rudely questioning me as if I was some kind dreadful person. He would not even listen to what I had to say. He said I have never seen you in this store before and was joined by some young salesperson who agreed that she had never seen me. The whole incident was so preposterous and unanticipated that I was caught totally off guard. I live around the corner. I always cruise through the store and had been in there several days before because they were having a big sale. He was so accusatory and angry that I would dare walk into his store with a complaint saying he sold hundreds and nobody ever came in with a problem. I was totally unprepared for this type of an attitude from a retail store Owner If he was the owner. I got angry of course and said I would call American Express and try and get the receipt and would bring it to his face. I am not accustomed to keeping receipts for everything that I buy nor was I expecting this type of verbal abuse. He actually ran out of the store after me and told me never to set foot in his store again. I said I will go where I want when ever I want but why would I want to buy an item in a store where as a customer I was so badly treated. I contacted Magashoni and told them of my experience. Now I am writing this review of the dreadful experience. I am looking at some other pretty unsavory reviews. Do not shop there if you care about what you buy and who is selling to you. I will never shop there again. The brands they carry are at Bloomingdales and Saks and both those stores have much better sales people and a MUCH better return policy. Shame on you Anik. I liked a dress I saw in the window, which was a cute sundress, nothing fancy, but walked in to find out that it cost $350. Woah. Not in my budget at all. Overall, I've been looking for more "work-appropriate" clothing as I'll be heading into a serious office environment in July, and decided I'd see if they had anything like that. I asked a salesgirl for some help, figuring that in a place like that they would be helpful. I told her I was starting work as a consultant and needed clothing that was work appropriate. She said "So, um, you like need a suit or something?" Yes, um, like a suit or something. She handed me a stack of decorated t-shirts. I gave her a dirty look and walked away. I went to the back, where, yes, there was a great clearance section. Or so it seemed at first. There were some suits, work appropriate skirts, cute tops for under a suit, etc. However, as I held one suit jacket in my hands, a button popped off. If you are shopping for Theory & Elie Tahari on the UES and are shocked by the prices here then you really need to do some research before heading out the door. Having said that, there are some things about this store that freak me out - one sales person in particular. I think she was pretty new, and her co-workers seemed a little freaked out by her too. She approached me while someone else was obviously helping me and I already had my items all picked out. But for some reason she walked up and started telling me how cute I was and that she'd gained 50 lbs from her chemo drugs and was now on Weight Watchers. I felt compelled to respond, which she unfortunately took as an invitation to keep talking. Generally she over-shared and wouldn't leave me alone. Then while I was undressed she opened the curtain and walked right into the dressing room! "Excuse me I just want to see this dress again," she said. Well you know what? You've got this dress on display up front you crazy beotch go check it out up there! I did buy the dress bc it was beautiful. That said, the owner clearly is not - their customer service has been an overwhelmingly poor experience over the last four years and I have hopefully learned my lesson not to shop there again. Much like many of the other reviews I have purchased defective merchandise (that never should have been sold to me) that they refused to help me with. I was actually told to contact the manufacturer myself - absurd. Having worked in the industry for many years I know that had the store called the manufacturer they could have returned the damaged goods. And worse than that I went back and spent more money there only to have the same experience all over again. However - third time I'm the fool. Highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. They don't tell you in advance that they don't refund, and you can only return clothes for store credit. Customer representative is rude and unhelpful. Anik must have changed owners, or had a major staffing overhaul since these reviews were written. Every time I've shopped here, all of the girls working have been really nice, and definitely helpful. On top of the good service, they have a great selection of designers and styles. I took a star off because they're on the pricier side --- but I've gotten a number of great designer tops and premium jeans on sale there. I also don't love that there isn't a mirror in the dressing rooms (I hate when you're forced to come model clothes that don't fit!), but the salesgirls that monitor the dressing rooms are always accommodating, and have never been pushy. read more

The Sales Girls at this store are so helpful and sweet! I visited right before a vacation trip and they had everything from swimsuits for me, to great dinner dresses. I will defiantly be back to get some work clothing as well. Really a great store with so much selection. read more

I have bought 4 cashmere sweaters at this store and I found them all to be extremely poor quality. ALL of the sweaters got holes within less than 6 months. I have to agree with another reviewer, the way they stare at you, as if you are going to steal something, is very uncomfortable. I went in there to find my mother a nice dress or top (and something for myself :p ) and the owner(?), as well as her store clerks kind of stared while I was looking around for something. The store is in a convenient and interesting area. It is kept clean and neat. The staff was helpful and supportive. It has a friendly atmosphere. The brands are the of latest fashions. The materials like cashmere are of high quality. The prices are a good deal. I was able to buy beautiful clothes that can be useful to me in many types of events, and that I can keep on wearing for a long time. They made me feel more beautiful. The staff's suggestions were wonderful advice, which I took, and leaving the store I never looked better. When I left after paying, I was wearing one of the outfits I had bought at Anik. Don't shop here. I bought a suit here, but had to have the pants ordered because they did not have the right size. 3 weeks later, they told me they could not get my pants. They refused to refund me the jacket which I had not worn, but even worse, they would not refund me for pants I did not receive! Who does that? It turns out Anik is not only the worst store for customer service, but is borderline criminal. They have no concept of business ethics. Don't shop here. You may regret it. This place is wholly dishonest and the customer service is sh*t. I bought over $1,500 worth of merchandise. When I got home, I noticed that two of the items (pieces of a set costing over $400) were damaged. I went back the next day as soon as the store opened to return those items. They told me in no uncertain terms that they could get me the same items new from the manufacturer and that they would contact me when the items arrived. After more than a week, they finally had only one of the items. I picked it up that following weekend (i.e., two weeks after I purchased it) and was told that the second part of the set would be coming during the next week. That piece they delivered after another whole week had passed. Guess what? It was not a new piece. In fact, it was the same piece they had originally sold me, damaged in the same way, in exactly the same place. They actually tried to pass it off on me as a new piece!! I told them that I would not accept it and returned the set. Incredibly, they told me that in order to issue a refund, I would need to WRITE DOWN MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER and that they would "SEND IT TO THE OFFICE." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? FRAUD ALERT!! They told me I should see the refund on my credit card within 7 days. It's been eight days and, as I'm sure you can guess, I still haven't seen a refund. So. They've had my $400 for a month and I've had nothing at all. They lied about their merchandise. They lied about their ability to get replacements. They lied about the refund. Now I will have to dispute the purchase with my credit card. As I said, don't shop here. You may regret it. read more
