The work was ok. The contractor removed the toilet when installing the new floor and apparently used a new wax floor seal that was not thick enough because the floor had been raised. The toilet leaked into the finished basement ceiling, damaging the ceiling. We had to stop using the toilet to avoid further damage. The contractor "put off" returning to fix the leak twice, but after my insistence, he returned a few days later and fixed the leak by replacing the seal. The contractor examined the damaged ceiling and offered to fix it, but said he was busy and that the ceiling had to dry. About a week and a half later, I contacted him and advised the ceiling was dry. He said he was busy, but that he could come back on Monday the following week. He agreed to confirm on Sunday night. when the contractor did not confirm on Sunday, I contacted him, however he never responded, nor did he show up on Monday. I am fixing the damage myself.
PS: Minor, but I will also mention that when moving the washer and dryer, the contractor put a quarter size chip in the adjacent wall and left it there. I fixed and color matched the chip without calling the contractor. Also, the laundry closet bifold doors were higher because of the raised floor, and the doors would not open properly. I also fixed/adjusted the doors without calling the contractor. The worse part was the contractor not returning to fix the ceiling damage and ignoring my call to confirm if he was coming back when he said he would return, and he never did come on the day he promised. So, you might want to make sure everything is tested and good before final payment. read more
