I listened to their recommendations and had them perform the services they suggested and WOW what a difference in temperature!! All of the employees we have met or spoke with are very kind and helpful. They offer discounts on services, if you are subscribed to their yearly heater and AC checks and it has paid for itself already. Moving and adjusting to a new home can be stressful, but now my AC and heater function are not one of them. I know they will keep my equipment running and safe for years to come. Southbelt was closest to the house and I was familiar with them from driving by on 2351, and they had good ratings...but not very many ratings - only 5. Hmmm, seemed strange for a 20+ year business. Does their customer base not use Yelp? I scroll down a bit and see the 9 "not recommended" reviews button. Yes please! Start reading through and that's where I found what sold me on calling - the owner's responses to several of the bad reviews, particularly his lengthy response to "D W." from June 2014. This was not the usual "We're sorry you had a bad experience, call us to see if we can make it right" pandering schlock - no, this dude defends his service with detail, stands up for his employee's integrity, and cares about the perception of his business. Sold, bro. Call the evening of 12/13 after close of business expecting to leave a voicemail and get an answering service that lets me know emergency service is indeed available. (Not necessary, it's warm but it's December) I leave my info and get a follow up call Wednesday morning. Here is why I gave 4 instead of five stars, and really would give 4.5 if I could - the caller couldn't schedule my appointment time, only pass my information to the tech who wouldn't call me till the next day. (In July that wouldn't work for me, but it's the Christmas season, people are on vacation, etc) Seems superfluous to get a follow up call from someone who can't really tell me anything. Matt from Southbelt called me around 9:10 this morning 12/15/16 and met me at my home promptly at 10:00 as arranged in our conversation. He quickly diagnosed the issue (burnt out fan motor from a fried relay) and offered me several options. He took the time to thoroughly answer my questions so I could make an informed decision, had the parts in his truck to do the job, and completed the repair quickly. What impressed me is that, after completing the repair, he advised me not to have him check the freon level due to the low ambient temperature. (60ish degrees) Since the air was now blowing cold from the vents, he advised me to wait till spring to reassess it, explaining that the low ambient temp would make his measuring device read low and if he added too much freon it would damage the system and cause a more expensive repair later - too much freon is worse than it being a bit low. A tech working for a company that preys on customers would have gladly added freon and charged me for it, then offered a discount on future service to ensure they got the pricier repair later. That didn't happen. $370 for the whole shebang, diagnosis, parts, and labor. The fact that he had parts on hand to do the repair shows knowledge of common AC problems gained from experience. I'll be calling again if I have more issues. Ed, if you read this, you do you, bro. You defending your business and your employees earned you a customer.

I had a 16 year old air conditioning system that of course quit cooling properly once the outside…read moretemperature hit 90 degrees. After a little research on the internet and reading reviews of A/C companies I chose to contact a local company and contacted Abel Mechanical Services to come out and diagnose the problem. I hadn't had a previous issue in years but the symptom was my system was low on Freon. I was planning on just adding Freon and hoping it would last through the summer and then I was going to have my total system replaced once it got a little cooler. Abel and his technician Chris arrived the next day after I contacted his company and starting diagnosing my outside unit. The first thing the gauges told us was I was low on Freon which was no surprise. While Abel and I were discussing the age of my unit and me telling Abel that I was considering just adding Freon and making it last a little longer Chris was checking the condenser coil for leaks and taking some readings on the amperage draw of the compressor and the fan motor. Both the compressor and fan were outside of their normal rated draws. No Freon leaks were found in the outside coils. There was no sales pitch made. They told me they could add Freon but could not tell me how long it would last because there was a leak somewhere and how long the Freon would last was unknown because they had not found the leak yet. I made the decision immediately to lean toward replacing my entire heat and cooling system now rather than "rolling the dice" since both the heating and cooling units were 16 years old and based on the compressor and fan out of tolerance amp readings provided by Abel and Chris. There was no sales pitch to sell me a new system. They said it was totally up to me as to whether to repair or to replace my system based on their findings. My common sense told me to replace due to the measurements and age of the system so I was the one to ask Abel for the cost of a total system change out. We agreed on a price for a new system. I really appreciated the relationship I had with Abel and Chris. They were very open to answer any of my questions. I could tell based on our interactions that I wanted to continue to do business with this company and that they were honorable and trustworthy. A couple of days afterward Abel's installation crew, including Abel and Chris arrived early in the morning and in less that 8 hours my old system was removed and my new heat and air conditioning system was in and working. Everything was done in a orderly and professional manner. All the old parts and trash was removed and my property was left as clean as it was when they arrived. Thanks to Abel Mechanical Services for a job well done.
