I've been coming here since I was a child. There's six exam rooms, all look relatively the same. The waiting room has four cushioned chairs, I've never waited longer than 10 minutes after arriving. I have been going to this dental location for years first to be seen by Dr. Alan Katz and then later by Dr. Andy Yu. My parents both went there for a long time, too. While there is a different feel by both dentists, I have enjoyed both of them, and Dr. Yu has created quite a well-rounded dentist office with a great team of receptionists and dental hygienists. He is extremely personable, and I find I can ask questions from either Dr. Yu or his team both in person or by reaching out between appointments. I also have found that my dental insurance is accepted at his practice, which is nice and convenient. Dr. Yu's office has a convenient website (https://www.dryudental.com), which has a lot of features. You can request an appointment, learn more about Dr. Yu and his practice, find out about their various services (general dentistry, family dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and emergency dentistry), and access your account online (or forms). I have only worked with Dr. Yu and his team on general dentistry which includes dental hygiene during two cleanings per year (including x-rays once per year) and tooth repair treatment or fillings as needed. I can bring in my mouth guard to get cleaned at each appointment, and now, even the dental hygienists can schedule appointments for a next visit as need be. While I know I need to be better at flossing (like many of us), I always learn something new about preventative care in the future. It was Dr. Yu's office that even suggested I get a mouth guard to prevent grinding of my teeth at night. Unfortunately, I needed to have two wisdom teeth removed a few years ago due to Dr. Yu and his team missing some needed work but that was because of some excess gum in the way and surprisingly, I hadn't had a tooth ache until it was too late. I have been going to this location for years, even before Dr. Yu took over. Everything before my last two visits has been exceptional. However, they would always give me quotes before work being done. I went in for a cleaning, the hygienist said I needed a deep cleaning, so only cleaned by front teeth, but don't worry, charged me for a full cleaning, had a few other things done while I was there like x-rays, but still cost a couple hundred. I then see the doctor, said everything looked good. I come in for the "deep" cleaning, scheduled for 2 hours, only took 1, and over half way through the hygienist said that everything looked pretty good, and I did not really have much build up. They charged me $1,000.00 without any warning. Which is almost 10 times the amount of a normal cleaning. I did not even get any numbing injections, glad I did not as I cannot tell if I would have been charged even more, or perhaps I was still over charged. Very disappointing. DO NOT listen to the hygienist for a deep cleaning. Double check with the doctor, and for the love of god, do not allow them to do any work on you until they give you a price. As a contract attorney I should have known better, but they never did this to me previously. I would have never agreed to have that work done without knowing the price first, which is normal practice. read more

When I moved to Arizona almost 20 years ago, my aunt and uncle referred me to their dentist, Dr. Katz. I went there for years, and when Dr. Yu took over the practice, I've continued to go approximately every four months for my dental cleanings and check-ups. It was a seamless transition and I've been a happy patient. That being said, I've also never had any major dental issues (and fingers crossed I never will!). Yes - you are reading the review of someone who has never had a cavity! My husband and brother also go to Dr. Yu and are pleased with the service, professionalism and attention they get from this boutique practice. We all find that the office is clean, the staff are efficient and trustworthy, etc... There has been some transition over time with the hygienists, but I've never had a bad experience. We've been patients of Dr Katz for many years before Dr Yu took over the business. Dr Yu is actually very professional and easy to talk to you - gets at least 4 stars. All the hygienists & front office staff that worked with Dr Katz left over time. The front office staff is decent when you are in the office but not when you are on the phone with them. They get 1 star for customer service. We have new insurance & my daughter went for a scheduled cleaning appointment - she brought new insurance card to the appointment, asked the staff & they advised her that they are in network with the plan so she proceeded with the appt. They charged her $17, stating that based on our plan we are liable for a 20% for preventive dental care. This is extremely unusual & I called the office later, spoke with Erica who stated she'll double check with my insurance & call me back - of course I never heard back...They submitted the claim & shortly after I got an explanation of benefits which actually showed that Dr Yu office is out of network with my plan. Of course shortly after that I received the bill for $165 from them. When I called the office, spoke with Barbara who stated that they are in network with BCBS & I should call my insurance to find out why they paid as out of network. By that time I spoke with my insurance & they advised me that Dr Yu is not in network with my particular plan... When I mentioned that to Barbara, her response that she can't remember all of the plans they are contracted with... So they never checked the eligibility & benefits prior to rendering care which is routinely done by all the providers. She did not offer an apology for a job NOT done by them, was not professional at all. What a disappointing experience. Obviously none of us are going to be back to that office. Dr Yu please do something about Barbara. She is rude, incompetent, and not helpful at all. The worst receptionist I have ever dealt with in my life. Surely you can find someone better. In March she refused to help when I needed a copy of a receipt from a prior office visit. Today she calls me to tell me that she switched me to a different hygieneist when I've had an appointment scheduled with Nancy since my last office visit nine months ago! Dr. Yu and his nurses are really efficient but his office stuff Claudia is super unprofessional. I had a confirmed appointment and after a lot of hustle, I have arranged my schedule accordingly. The day before the appointment (after 1.40pm) she sent me a text message to confirm while I was in work and since I didn't reply back, she canceled the appointment without even calling. I can't believe it that they expect that people will reply to every text message in a week days between work!
