They explained things to me calmly and easily and checked on us often. The nurse brought her a special little sippy cup with water and ice that she brought home and loves! The care from the doctors, nurses respiratory specialists was wonderful, and my daughter isn't afraid of the hospital or doctors because of the wonderful staff at Memorial Hospital! Thank you all

Nurse came in & explained probable course next Dr visited & ordered BLOODRAW, EKG, chest xray, nebulizer treatments & IV BP medication & by mouth diuertic pill. Once stable & 2 negative blood tests for cardiac enzymes were negative which ruled out heart attach--we were thankfully released with prescriptions called into CVS, xray on CD & all test results in timely manner as they all knew we had to get home to rest before wedding. Entire staff from front desk, nurses, doctor were professional & efficient & thorough while remaining pleasant which kept us @ ease during very scary time (57 yo-1st time feeling this way). Highly recommend this hospital=5 stars!!

NO STARS! This is far worse than "Not good"…read more The staff is incapable of empathy and compassion. They refused to let me in the room with my elderly mother when she was admitted after a 911 call and ambulance. She is an elder and I am her advocate. Every other patient there at the time was allowed to have a family member in their room with them. I believe I was discriminated against based on my looks. When I kept asking to go back there (a total of 3 times in over an hour), they called the cops on me and said I was being disorderly for telling them calmly that my mother had a right to have me present in her room. I was being calm but they wanted to pull a power trip because I cited Maine law. The cop arrived, intent on escalating the situation, assuming that I was a disorderly criminal, which I wasn't, so he figured out pretty quickly when I as able to deescalate him even in my anxious state. This was out of control and extreme overreach of power simply because I don't look like the typical patient at this facility, apparently. There was hardly anyone at the hospital but they acted like they were so busy and took till over midnight to discharge my mother. Since we all live in Cornish, after I was kicked off the hospital premises and threatened to be arrested, I had to drive home and my wife had to go back and get my mother. That is a terrible way to treat a family who is in distress. I have filed a complaint with DHHS and with the ACLU. This is not a queer-friendly establishment and they do not care about patients or their families. Apparently, if you go to this hospital worried about your family member and wanting to be by their side, they will call the police on you and trespass you for 24 hours. In what world is that compassionate?

Beware! Dr. Armstrong should be avoided at all costs…read more I had the awful luck of winding up in the Rumford ER with a severe migraine during a ski trip to Sunday River. I have suffered from debilitating migraines for over 8 years, and I have had a wide range of ER experiences. I can confidently say that, without a doubt, Rumford is the worst ER I have ever had the misfortune to enter. Despite the fact that I exhibited strong signs of dehydration due to nausea, the doctor didn't even order a saline drip until I asked for it. Even a first-year med student should know how crucial hydration is in treating a migraine. Throughout my stay, I was repeatedly ignored, treated as if my condition was unimportant, and finally accused of "narcotics behavior" because they wanted to give my bed to someone else. Dr. Armstrong didn't even bother to verify my treatment history before jumping to wild conclusions and utilizing unprofessional intimidation tactics, including threatening to call the police out of the blue. I have never once been told at an ER before that I had "been there too long." I think the length of my stay reflects on how poorly mismanaged my care was by Rumford's staff. Dr. Armstrong was rude, condescending, and even stooped to threatening me while I was laying in a hospital bed, crying in pain. My father called to check in and make sure I was getting proper treatment, and Dr. Armstrong actually hung up the phone on him! All I can figure is this area must be severely short on qualified doctors. I had to leave this place, make the three-hour drive home, and check in to a hospital near where I live. They admitted me for FOUR DAYS for the same pain Rumford had disregarded and mismanaged. AVOID this place at all costs, especially Dr. Armstrong! Drive an extra hour and save yourself the nightmare of a lifetime.
