Countryside Country Club - Clubhouse Lobby

Countryside Country Club

Came here for a wedding actually. As a rule I have a great distaste for country clubs because of…read morethe snoot factor. This place is no different. It has a well manicured 18 hole golf course, nine more holes (27 total) gym, two pools, tennis courts and all that. It also has a clubhouse which is the focus of my review. First off, this is the ugliest clubhouse I've ever entered. Think Little Rascals He Man Woman Hater's Club if you're that much into club houses. Ugly brown crown molding, ratty carpeting, ugly beige walls and exposed wood ceilings. The lobby looks like a mausoleum too. After the ceremony in a non cool room (idiots turned on the heat by mistake), we were sent into the reception area, which was the south room and adjoining spaces. At least they actually had on the AC in here. Open bar and passed canapés as one would expect. Some of these canapés including bacon wrapped scallops stand out because they were AWFUL!! I almost spit out the spinach pie; I should've known better when I saw them drizzled with heaven knows what. Scallops over cooked and lousy...at least there was an open bar. After two dark rum and colas, I even had enough of that; cheap lo-rent swill. Salad was simple mixed greens with a slice of cuke, some red onion and a couple of CHILLED cherry tomatoes. Well, there was the next sign that the kitchen doesn't know what it's doing. Tomatoes are supposed to be room temperature; period. Dressing stop said salad was nondescript. For entrees the Queen Bee had crab stuffed grouper and I had filet mignon. Filet was bland but had a halfway decent demiglaze with it. Queen Bee didn't care for her grouper. Everyone else at the table seemed more or less okay with it. To be fair, I didn't try the stuff. Both entrees were accompanied by overcooked asparagus and bland rice pilaf. Blech! I'm sure the wedding party paid good money for this stuff. If this is any sign of how their dining rooms are, then kindly include me OUT of this club. I'd rather graze on the grass from the 10th fairway. The desserts you see are provided by an outside bakery so nothing to say here. Not really much worthwhile or positive to say about having a function here, either. Have it at Chuck E. Cheese or a bowling alley instead! Eh!!

I cannot speak highly enough of this venue and the woman in charge, Joan. We just had my sisters…read morebaby shower at this location today & had the most wonderful experience with a very clean, spacious area to have our celebration and Joan was just the sweetest most helpful person to us!! I would highly recommend considering this location for any future events where you need to rent out a venue space.

We went for the first time last night. They were having a food drive for Dunedin Cares. Bring a bag…read moreof food to donate and you got in free for a Celtic band for the evening. Celtic Conundrum was playing who is local to Dunedin. They play a lot of their own tunes as well as some cover songs. All very good. The crowd seemed The building is an old house turned in to Scottish society. Decorated with Scottish crests on the walls with member's name. Lots of tables and chairs set up in a large Hall area. There is a kitchen but it was not 'open' so to speak. We were told to bring our own drinks and snacks for this event. We honestly thought they would use tonight to make some money for their cause by selling burgers, dogs, etc... nope. Not the case. Odd. The average age at this event was 70. They enjoyed the music but they asked to have it turned down a couple of times. The Hall was hot but they did turn the heat down or turned the air on which was nice. We are in our 40's and Celtic Conundrum brought in 10 or so much younger people to watch them. We clapped and sang and got the crowd going and seemed to enjoy it. But, we got the feeling that if this society does not get more (younger) people to join their cause it is going to end up closing. Which would be sad! This is Dunedin... it is the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, Scotland. And the sister city of Stirling, Scotland. Support your roots people! I would love to see this Society have a tent at local events like the Highland games of Dunedin. Or in the many parades in the streets of Dunedin. Mail out flyers explaining who you are and what you are about. We found very little online about the Society and they could benefit hugely from a great social media person. Anyway, support local people. Look them up online. Join their cause. Go to their events. Try something different. I am sure you live in Dunedin somewhat for it's quaintness. Embrace it. I can't describe how sad I am to be the first to review this place. That says a lot about its popularity.
