Do not come here. Unprofessional and rude "dentist" trying to scam patients. Office never called to confirm my appt so I called a month prior and was met with the rudest tone and answer of "why didn't you call earlier?" What?? Then more than a YEAR after my appt, Lasky (not receptionists) tried to put in a claim in to my insurance. He (not receptionists) called and berated me because he couldn't get ahold of my insurance and said the full bill is my responsibility now. Why? His answer: "I couldn't get past the idiot chatbot to a real person." So instead of trying again, he called several times to yell at me and say I'm "irresponsible" for not following up with him to put in the claim..... Avoid this nut. Just a lazy, out to pasture dentist trying to make a quick buck with scare tactics. Also, shotty dental work. Very, very rude to his receptionists. In good faith, I called this dental office to make appointments for initial dental care. The receptionist was challenging and rude to deal with. Our family needed to be assigned to this practice because we have the health maintenance equivalent of dental care. This plan does not have out-of-network benefits; I had to ensure we were all together. I can't recommend this office. The staff members are very nice, dentist is gruff. I was a patient for a few years. The only reason why I stayed a patient is because the staff was extremely nice and good. The office is very conveniently located in Dupont Circle. Recently, my insurance changed and I'm having the worst time, now getting shaken down for $50 out of pocket for a simple single filling, which should have been totally covered by insurance. Not sure what the deal is there. A few weeks after my filling, my tooth hurt a lot, and even a single raspberry seed would hurt it if it was in the "groove" of the surface of my tooth. It has been 2 months and it is better but still sensitive. One time, Dr. asked me where I was from, no where are you really from (ethnicity) and then said something kind of annoying after that. I've visited Dr. Lasky's practice 3 times. The staff is friendly and do the cleanings quickly. My biggest concern is the outdated equipment and the cleanliness of the clinic. During my last visit I noticed trash on the floor, cabinets with some sort of residue, and holes in the walls. Also, I don't understand why as a patient I have to pay a fee for "paperwork." Although the amount is not a lot ($5) I find it tacky to be charged money when my insurance covers 100% of cleaning and the once a year exam. Terrible experience, first and last time. Office is not very clean and the equipment is very outdated. The receptionist was not professional, hung up twice when I called back and forgot to give me my insurance card back until I asked. I wasnt impressed at all, I thought my appointment was half past the hour rather than 15 minutes past the hour and Dr. Lasky scolded about being late and that he would have to rush. Indeed it was a rushed cleaning job and ROUGH! No dentist has been so rough with me. I thought I would bleed but he said I didn't and that I had good teeth. I was literally sinking into the chair. I also expressed some concerns about a particular area of my teeth and he made no effort to investigate further, my concern was completely dismissed. I will not be back. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Latsky for a year, and have only been able to schedule two visits. Both visits there have been confusion on his end with scheduling, and when I showed up the first time, I was met with very rude and disciplinary tones. The second meeting, I called a week ahead of time to confirm the appointment before I used a day of PTO. On my way to my appointment I call to confirm again because I still have yet to hear directly from them, and they tell me at that point that they canceled my appointment 3 days ago and couldn't get ahold of me. I never received a call from Latsky. I could not stress avoiding this dental office more. Don't waste your money on him, and have to look at his Airbnb rental advertisements in the waiting room. read more

He's an old school type dentist who isn't trying to make a fast buck by giving extra work you probably don't need. Some of the staff might come off a little rough, including Dr. Lasky, but if you don't take it personally, which you shouldn't, you'll have a positive experience. They know what they're doing from the insurance payments to the dental work. I haven't been there for many years since I switched insurance and they don't currently take mine. But when I did go regularly, I usually only had cleanings, which were really thorough. However, this year, I decided to get dental insurance and went back to get a new nightguard from him. He had done my last one over 7 years ago, so I thought that was a good deal considering how long it lasted. Overall, I had a positive experience again. He was quick and the last nightguard I got from him lasted the test of time. I'm sure this new one will too. read more

Dr. Lassky is great. Very personable while still being competent and to the point. No fear of undergoing unnecessary procedures like in some other offices. I had put off dental care for a while and was glad my insurance assigned me him as a dentist. I will be referring friends and family. I've had my teeth cleaned at several practices in different states over the years. Generally, it's been a fine experience. Sometimes, it's even a pleasant experience. This was the first time I ever went to Dr. Lasky for teeth cleaning and it will be the last. His staff is amazing. Seriously, they are the best part of his practice. He is the worst part... Concern... He is careless and aggressive in how he works with your teeth and gums. My concern is that long term care of my dental health in his hands would be harmful and not helpful. Reasons: he inadvertently dug his fingernails into the side of my mouth and gums while cleaning; he scratched the inside of my gums with his tool and when I politely told him and asked what to do to make sure it doesn't become even more sensitive than it currently was, he was rude and dismissive; and most appalling: he put the tip of the suction tube that was in my mouth onto the chair (not on the bib/napkin) on the naked chair (who knows when that was last cleaned) touching my neck for about a minute before putting it right back in my mouth. I wish his assistant was there to help bc I think it would've gone much better. But he did it all himself. I don't know why he didn't have a professional hygienist do the cleaning. I can handle his lack of friendliness and the fact that he does not say anything positive - everything he says is negative, lecture like, etc. but it's tolerable. Plus, his receptionist and the dental assistant more than make up for his poor bedside manner. They are absolutely lovely. But the manhandling of my mouth and the poor hygienic bit with with the suction tube is unacceptable. [PS - I wrote this review immediately after my visit. He's cheap, and he's quick, and he takes my shotty HMO dental insurance. Other than that, I'm not sure I can say anything else positive. The office is straight out of 1980. It's inside of what looks to be an old apartment building converted into second rate offices. While conveniently located, it's small, dark, cramped, and he's probably been using the same dental equipment since he started practicing. He barely looks at your teeth, and has dental assistant start working without even explaining what's happening. The assistants all seem fairly incompetent, and Dr. Lasky continually has to remind them how to use which tools and show them how to do everything. I've had a good bit of dental work done before, and nothing about this guy made me feel comfortable. I'm worried about the work he's done, wouldn't be surprised if he's only made things worse. After two frightening visits (one initial exam/cleaning, and one filling for a chipped tooth) I won't be returning. read more

A very experienced, old-schooled and honest man. He didn't try to convince me to go with a root canal when I really only needed a filling. He scheduled me fairly quickly since I actually needed work to be done (his cleaning appointments are booked until Feb.). He works fast, but the downside of that is that I truly felt like I was being butchered at a faster and more vigorous rate. His office is at a prime location (DuPont circle), but the office itself was really tame. It doesn't have high tech and shiny machines and tools, it is not well decorated, and it is actually really crammed. So walking into an office like that didn't ease my anxiety of seeing a dentist at all. The last thing, he doesn't have payment installment options, so all fees have to be paid for by the end of services. At the end of the day though, he did a good job on my fillings and it wasn't expensive at all. read more

Made an appointment for a cleaning only. I already have a good dentist (Larry Bowers), just needed a good hygienist. First, I waited nearly half an hour to be seen. Office charged for a "comprehensive oral evaluation", even though I insisted it would be cleaning only before the appointment was even made. The "comprehensive oral evaluation" consisted of the dentist looking at my teeth for some 20-30 seconds. I didn't even have a chance to refuse it - that's how quick it was. The dentist was out before I knew it. I wrote a letter to the dentist, but he was not responsive. He couldn't even spell my name right on the letter. Cleaning was fine. I requested that my records be sent to my regular dentist. I hope they will send them, but I would not be surprised if they gave me troubles. I do not recommend this office to anyone. read more

The good: The eclectic office staff is efficient and good for cleanings. The dentist is efficient and friendly enough for checkups and will not try to upsell you on unnecessary treatments. Very old school and good for regular checkups and cleanings. I had heard about his old school style which I didn't mind, until I needed a relatively simple filling.... The bad: They discovered a cavity and he offered to fill it right there which was great. However after one shot of novacaine I still felt pain but he continued on and just said it still hurt because I did not have enough novacaine. As my mouth filled with saliva from the pain and I was aspirating as he drilled he said I salivated too much and I needed to stop. Then he stuffed pads in my mouth and removing them in a very abrasive manner he punctured under my tongue. He is very abrasive and left a large gap between teeth which gets stuck with food. It was masochistic the way he treated me and I was shocked because he seemed to be enjoining it. I'm all for old school dentistry l and can take pain but not that kind. I have had a lot of dental work from various dentists of different caliber and can say I had nightmares about him and was traumatized. And this was a single filling. read more

I have to say, I love Dr. Lasky. I've recommended him a number of times, but you have to be aware of what you're in for. He is blunt, he is quick-paced, and if you are late, you will hear about it. That being said, he's probably the best dentist I've ever been to in terms of time spent / constraints / straightforward advice. Personality-wise he's a little curmudgeony, but that's part of the charm. This is by no means a "dental spa" or whatever they're calling the fancy places now. He's a dentist, he does your dental work, he complains about people being late, and you get on with your day. Hurray! What more are you asking for? read more

Small but pleasant office near Dupont Circle. Dr. Lasky is friendly, informative and has a wealth of experience in the field (35 years!). The equipment looks a bit dated, but the filling was done quickly and without pain. My appointment was at 9:45, and I was seen by 9:50. Was out the door by 10:20. I do agree with other reviews that the equipment and decor are a somewhat rustic, but considering that the office was able to take me in on a short notice is definitely a plus in my book. I've been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. They make you feel like family, the kind of family you are happy to see. It doesn't feel like a corporate big box chain dentistry. I've always been treated pleasant, and my teeth most importantly feel good, no pain or discomfort. I highly recommend them if you're new to town. Dr. Lasky inappropriately yelled/scolded me multiple times. Additionally, he was constantly being very rude to his staff. I felt bad for the receptionist, as it seemed almost as if she was being verbally abused. After the appointment, they must have not filed my paper work correctly because they attempted to charge me the no show fee. One of the best dentists I have ever been to since I moved to DC 10 years ago. His work is professional, his staff is friendly, and Dr. Lasky has a dry wit that's hysterical. On top of all that his work is about as painless as I've ever experienced. Like a lot of people I suffer from quite a bit of anxiety at the dentist, but I'm always quickly put at ease there and have never suffered any pain during the procedures. I've stumbled upon Dr. Lasky nearly 20 years ago when I needed an emergency root canal. He's the only doctor I've had medical loyalty towards, and in in a weird way, his staff (who also have been there all this time--which should say something) treat me like a little office family member. I saw Dr. Lasky for several years and was more or less pleased at the time. The office is a little scary it's so outdated, and Dr. Lasky is hard of hearing and his assistant is difficult to understand, which made visits frustrating. However, upon switching dentists a year and a half ago, I've learned that all four filings Dr. Lasky did while I was his patient have to be redone; he did not fill them entirely and did not trim the alloy properly, so I have had further decay and even decay on adjacent teeth as a result. And I have had chronic gum problems for a few years and didn't know why. My new hygienist found the problem after one visit: tarter deposits that she showed me upon removal (gross) that said had been there, growing larger, for several years, causing me a lot of pain and bleeding. I can't believe the hygenists at Dr. Lasky's office were so careless not to clean my teeth properly. So glad I've moved on. I definitely won't return to Dr. Lasky and cannot recommend him. read more

The office is dirty and run-down. I had an appointment at 9:15 and wasn't seen until 9:45. Dr. Laskey was incredibly rude--he shined the light in my eyes and I politely asked him to move it and he yelled at me saying "how else am I supposed to see in your mouth?!". I asked if he could move it slightly and I shut my eyes and he made it worse. After waiting for half an hour, he was running late so he rushed through my cleaning and didn't do a thorough job. Dr. Lasky and his staff are competent and honest. I've been a patient for 3 years and have no complaints. They never try to sell you services or products you don't need, and they accept pretty much all insurance, including my cheap DMO plan. I've recommended him to coworkers and none of them have had any problems either. My usual hygienist is Stephanie - she is a dear and she remembers me by name every time I come in. If you just need a cleaning, make an appointment months in advance, but you might be able to squeeze in much sooner if you call back to check for cancellations. However, if you have a problem like a cavity, he'll be able to see you on short notice. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Lasky's practice for all your dental care needs. read more

After going here 3 times to have a simple tiny chip fixed in my tooth, and having Lasky fill it crookedly, have it fall out, and finally have it fall out again for good only a year later - do not go here! Just go to a student for free - or a good dentist like Tsaknis - they'll do much better work. I have been going to Dr. Lasky for over two decades. He is a very talented dentist. He will try his best to treat your dental problems with the least amount of treatment necessary to fix whatever problem you have. Over the years, Dr. Lasky has seen me on short notice to repair broken fillings and worse on weekends, on short notice prior to my business travel, and has always left me better off for it. I know that some patients are concerned that Dr. Lasky is gruff and not necessarily someone you would want to have drinks with. But, as a dentist, he is one of the best. His hygienist, Stephanie, is personable and competent. His front desk is run by Sandy who is a treasure. Both have been with Dr. Lasky as long as I have been a patient. I was assigned Dr. Lasky through my insurance, and honestly the only actual dentistry he did on me was to insert a temporary filling on a broken tooth which subsequently fell out 3 days later while I was on vacation. Beyond that, I would never return to that office, his dentist smock was stained and dirty, the place was in need of a thourough update and cleaning, he still uses a SPIT SINK! I haven't seen one in like 15 years. I went to Dr. Lasky for a 2nd opinion after a previous dentist acted like my entire mouth would fall apart if I didn't do a number of very expensive procedures not covered by my insurance. I had hardly any wait before seeing Dr. Lasky, and he was very quick and to-the-point. After quickly identifying my problem, he explained a reasonable treatment plan, and gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision about what I wanted to do based on my financial constraints. Unlike other dentists, he did not push expensive products or procedures, and did not try to alarm me into consenting to treatment that was not really needed at the moment. When I got my cavities filled, the process was quick and easy. I will definitely go back to Dr. Lasky because I feel like I can trust his expertise and know that his advice is sound and practicable, not just based on squeezing as much money as he can out of me. read more

I had a very bad experience in this office. I unfortunately had to go as he was one of the only dentists that took my company's insurance. The office is very old and the dentist doesn't pay very good attention. My first visit for a teeth cleaning was not the worst. The second visit to have 2 cavities filled was a nightmare. After multiple novacane shots where I was still not numb, he told me he was going to drill anyway and that I "had to deal with it." I would never go back again! read more

I would avoid Dr. Lasky at all cost. He is old school and is not customer service oriented. I am not asking for him to baby me but spend more than a minute looking at my mouth. I visited him because a tooth was hurting. He found a cavity. Instead of filling it that day I was told to come back another day. I was given a poor reason for not filling my cavity at that time. I guess he assumes I have plenty of time to trek about town to see his grumpy face. I finally sought a new dentist when he referred me to a person for a root canal. The doctor was unable to complete it and sent a note and x-rays to Lasky. When I arrived for another visit he had not looked at the x-rays and after looking at my mouth for two minutes this time he referred me to another doctor. He could have done this after reading the note from the root canal guy. Poor service and old technology stay away. My mouth is worse off for going to him. I will never return to this dump again! My one and only visit can be characterized in three words: chaotic, insulting, and bloody. Chaotic - Within minutes of my arrival, Dr. Lasky and his hygenist started arguing (loudly) about why she hadn't gotten a raise in 5 years. She tried repeatedly to end the conversation. She literally went into another room and said "Dr. Lasky, don't come in here. I don't want to talk about this right now." He FOLLOWED her and persisted for 10 minutes, telling her she didn't know what she was talking about and trying to convince her that he was right! The whole scene was very awkward. The hygenist later came out and apologized to the waiting patients; the doctor made no such apologies. Insulting - Throughout my visit he was constantly barking loudly to his staff, who were in other rooms with patients. Apparently, one of his staff members called out of work because her father had just passed away. Without sympathy, he mocked her to another employee, saying "I don't know what that means. How long is she going to be out?!" The hygenist calmly tried to explain that the lady had mourned several deaths recently and urged him to be more sympathetic. Bloody - This was an absolute nightmare. I was there for a routine cleaning but, by the end, I was afraid that he had ruined my teeth. First, he litterally hacked at my teeth with his little pick without regard for my comfort. I swear I saw chunks of tooth flying out of my mouth! He stabbed and ripped my gums open at least 5 times, my mouth filled with blood. He just kept going! After the pick he moved onto floss. He INTENTIONALLY sliced into my already bloody gums, causing them to bleed more. I had to rinse several times and each time the sink was dark red with blood. He blamed my gums for being weak and inflamed. Finally, he moved on to the buffer tool. He litterally spent 5 seconds gliding over my teeth and that was it. I was left sore, bloody, and my teeth looked no cleaner than when I went in. My last dentist never made me bleed and said my teeth were in great shape. This dentist is a quack. AVOID! read more

He has an excellent bedside manner. He's extremely experienced and skilled, so it gets right to it. Making the appointments were easy, and his prices are reasonable I've had a lot of arrogant dentists who give attitude over the years, but Dr. Lasky Does none of that; he is warm and friendly. It's true that he and his office are bit old-fashioned, and I see that the other reviewers actually hold that against him. But I think it is comforting to be in a cozy place that does not feel like a factory or laboratory. But more important than the atmosphere is the bedside manner or the quality of the work; I have had three major procedures done, and he did a good job, efficiently and without fuss.
