I just think maybe a wake up call is in order for the office. The front desk "grouches" Janelle and Casey have to be thee rudest receptionists I have ever encountered. They always sound up tight and bitchy whenever I call or come in. Casey actually told me "sorry but it is my time of the month, and I feel horrible so sorry I am so short with you" as I was looking to make an appointment on my way out from my cleaning. It was so strange and awkward. I have to say I never heard that one before from a receptionist. There is no excuse for bitchy and you probably should not tell people when your time of the month is that way when you read the yelp review you about you, you won't be embarrassed--just a little advice. So we have been seeing Dr. Chalker. He totally reminds me of the grouchy guy from despicable me movies. No personality, rude, and honestly I think he is a drill and fill, pull it and place a $10,000 implant kinda Dentist. I mean he is a cosmetic dentist. Not saying that he is not a regular dentist but he is used to perfection at all costs. I was seeing another Dentist for the past 6 years prior to Chalker. I was going every 6 months, getting regular cleanings and check ups then my insurance changed and Dr. Chalkers office was my new Dentist. Upon my first visit the Doc informed me I had 4 cavities and thousands of dollars of dental work that "couldn't wait". I needed two implants and they needed to know that day if I could do it for 10,000. I was like "why yes, let me get my pot of gold and hand it over to you." They said the same for the Husband. Of course we got second and third opinions of which those Drs. never once pointed out any of the work that Chalker said we both needed. That was very interesting to say the least. I feel like he is ripping me off by telling me new unnecessary procedures to get done. Every visit is at least $500.00 or an implant request of thousands. This is so strange to me. I have the same request for the husband. We since went to a new dentist and the new dentist said it looks like our previous dentist was VERY into replacing fillings with crowns for some reason. Finally last straw- Dr Chalker put the wrong crown on my Husbands tooth. He put the top tooth on the bottom tooth and once my Husband noticed it and told the Dr. the Doc said oh, huh okay well I will just shaved it down to fit. Uhhhhhhhh what!! The Hubs said that is it, I am done with the rude guy and horrible office girls. Find another dentist. Even though we paid for a perfectly normal tooth. I would think now that it was shaved down for 20 minutes it may have lost some stability. $500.00 for the crown on the wrong tooth but shaved down to size. NO JOKE and Dr. C was ok with that work. He never offered to put the right tooth in. This is acceptable for a Dentist who has been in business since "1975" I am shocked at his level of acceptable quality. Seriously people, go some where else. Why would you want to put up with bitchy front office clerks and a grouchy Dentist who wants to replace every filling with a crown? If I continue to go to this Dr. I will have ALL fake teeth. I have never had so many issues in a year then when I have gone to this Dentist. I have since gone to 2 Dentists for 2nd and 3rd opinions and they have not once mentioned any of the things Dr. Chalker has said I needed to fix this year. I dont understand why this place feels the need to be so rude to the clients who pay so much money for their procedures. Is it too hard to put on a happy face while you walk in the door to your job. Is it too much to ask to be honest and nice to people? Going to a Dentist can be traumatic for some and I would think they would know that and be a bit more understanding. Leave your worries at the door, try and find your inner integrity and or pretend you enjoy your job so clients won't feel like they never want to go back.

Dr. Huiras was very professional and had great chair-side manner with his patients plus his staff had nothing but high regard for him. His main assistant was great with patients and was very sweet. Fast, non-invasive x-rays, the ability to fabricate crowns in-house, huge staff...felt like it was a step in the right direction. Fast forward to now, and I feel differently. I had one crown done, as a tooth had cracked. I was given a $1,000 estimate with the standard disclaimer that I'll be responsible for the actual amount. No problem, I know the drill, as I have had dental work done in the past. The problem was their "estimate" was 100% off, and now I'm being asked to pay $2,000 for a crown that was supposed to be $1,000. From my perspective, if my job was to deal with insurance companies on a daily basis and I had hundreds of patients and thousands of EOBs, I should be able to get closer than being half-way to the actual price. I can't help but feel like I was taken advantage of. Had I known the actual price, I likely would have shopped around and had the work done elsewhere. On my next cleaning visit, the dentist told me I needed something like 6 or 7 MORE crowns. How many of those are medically necessary, and how many are to add billable income, since they cost so much more than insurance covers, AND can be done in-house?

However this office was taken over by the Beck brothers. Dr Preston Beck being my new Dentist the last couple years. Christmas Eve I cracked a tooth and I came in a few days later to see Preston Beck telling him of my tooth pain. I told him I thought I cracked a tooth. He did not take X-rays. He mostly ignored my complaint and tried to sell me Invisalign braces. I left and a few days later I called saying I have tooth pain and really need my tooth checked out properly. I came in and ask him to xray it. He told me a crack can heal on its own and that an xray probably wouldn't show a crack anyway. He tokd me I had a cavity in the side tooth and he put a filling in it. About a week later, still in pain I called again and said. I really think my tooth is cracked and I need it checked. I came in and this time he did an xray. He told me I need root canal. I was sent to a speciality in Paso for a root canal. This doctor reviewed the X-rays I brought closely and said he could see a crack in the tooth on the xray and that he cannot do a root canal on a cracked tooth. I made my own appointment with another office to have the tooth pulled So it took 3 visits to Dr Preston Beck. He never properly identified the issue. He put a filling in a cracked tooth. And I had to pay my share for all those wasted visits. I was in pain and taking a lot of ibuprofen for a month during this time. I can only say I do NOT recommend Atascadero Hills Dental. I found another Dentist. . Also the office is very short staffed. Most the office staff that used to fully cover the front office is gone. The woman who did finances and had her own office is gone and her office was turned into a tiny makeshift dental station. I really dislike being assigned to this station as it is too small and has no sink because it wasn't meant to be a patient care office, it was for an office staff and was for financial agreements in the past. In addition to my misfortunes the time with the cracked tooth this office told me I owed $332.00 as my share after delta dental paid. I received my EOB from Delta stating I only owe $79. I kept calling and trying to get someone one the phone. Messages left for the Accounting person were not returned. Eventually I called the front office and got someone to check this and refund my overcharge. After about 2 months I finally received a check in the mail for the overcharge. This should not of occurred but the person who was doing the front desk estimated my share completely incorrectly and grossly overcharged me. This is why the office needs an actual financial person and not just a receptionist handling billing.
