My initial review of this office was very positive. I had been a patient elsewhere, and upon coming…read morehere, I was immediately impressed with the technology. Fast, non-invasive x-rays, the ability to fabricate crowns in-house, huge staff...felt like it was a step in the right direction. Fast forward to now, and I feel differently. I had one crown done, as a tooth had cracked. I was given a $1,000 estimate with the standard disclaimer that I'll be responsible for the actual amount. No problem, I know the drill, as I have had dental work done in the past. The problem was their "estimate" was 100% off, and now I'm being asked to pay $2,000 for a crown that was supposed to be $1,000. From my perspective, if my job was to deal with insurance companies on a daily basis and I had hundreds of patients and thousands of EOBs, I should be able to get closer than being half-way to the actual price. I can't help but feel like I was taken advantage of. Had I known the actual price, I likely would have shopped around and had the work done elsewhere. On my next cleaning visit, the dentist told me I needed something like 6 or 7 MORE crowns. How many of those are medically necessary, and how many are to add billable income, since they cost so much more than insurance covers, AND can be done in-house?

However this office was taken over by the Beck brothers. Dr Preston Beck being my new Dentist the last couple years. Christmas Eve I cracked a tooth and I came in a few days later to see Preston Beck telling him of my tooth pain. I told him I thought I cracked a tooth. He did not take X-rays. He mostly ignored my complaint and tried to sell me Invisalign braces. I left and a few days later I called saying I have tooth pain and really need my tooth checked out properly. I came in and ask him to xray it. He told me a crack can heal on its own and that an xray probably wouldn't show a crack anyway. He tokd me I had a cavity in the side tooth and he put a filling in it. About a week later, still in pain I called again and said. I really think my tooth is cracked and I need it checked. I came in and this time he did an xray. He told me I need root canal. I was sent to a speciality in Paso for a root canal. This doctor reviewed the X-rays I brought closely and said he could see a crack in the tooth on the xray and that he cannot do a root canal on a cracked tooth. I made my own appointment with another office to have the tooth pulled So it took 3 visits to Dr Preston Beck. He never properly identified the issue. He put a filling in a cracked tooth. And I had to pay my share for all those wasted visits. I was in pain and taking a lot of ibuprofen for a month during this time. I can only say I do NOT recommend Atascadero Hills Dental. I found another Dentist. . Also the office is very short staffed. Most the office staff that used to fully cover the front office is gone. The woman who did finances and had her own office is gone and her office was turned into a tiny makeshift dental station. I really dislike being assigned to this station as it is too small and has no sink because it wasn't meant to be a patient care office, it was for an office staff and was for financial agreements in the past. In addition to my misfortunes the time with the cracked tooth this office told me I owed $332.00 as my share after delta dental paid. I received my EOB from Delta stating I only owe $79. I kept calling and trying to get someone one the phone. Messages left for the Accounting person were not returned. Eventually I called the front office and got someone to check this and refund my overcharge. After about 2 months I finally received a check in the mail for the overcharge. This should not of occurred but the person who was doing the front desk estimated my share completely incorrectly and grossly overcharged me. This is why the office needs an actual financial person and not just a receptionist handling billing.

UPDATE! I left a review on August 17, 2023, about how Dr…read more Muenter refused to take responsibility for a crown that was too tight....and, that he refused to remove it. Guess what! I swear this is true! Almost two years and $7500 later, I am now finished with INVISALIGN....caused by the tight crown pushing my teeth to the side such that one of my front teeth was slightly overlapping the other. Just Saying!!!!!! P.S. It says I live in Palm Desert.....haven't lived there in 5 years....otherwise, I would have gone to my wonderful dentist there. I now live on the Central Coast of California.

One of the scariest parts of going to the dentist is seeing the bright lights, pointy tools,…read morefeeling the clinking against your teeth, and having a mean and rough person ripping your jaws apart, all while you have no idea what is going on. Then on top of that, having to be berated on not flossing or brushing enough, when you already know you haven't been doing it. Fortunately, not only does the team explain everything in detail without having to be asked, but they are also very non-judgmental with their approach and recommendations. I know I have not been flossing enough, and I usually have to mentally prepare to be scolded by the dentist for this, but the team here acknowledges the issues that they analyze and then provide solutions, all with a kind tone and smile. This alone is a reason why I would come back here. My wife has been going here for 2 years now and after waiting to get in, I am pleased to report that the quality of care I received was excellent. Admittedly, the appointments are booked out months ahead, but compared to another dental office I visited in the SLO area, their service is just a whole different level. The staff are all very kind and welcoming, from Andrea who brought me in and did my X-Rays, to Dr. Milch who analyzed my X-Rays and gave me recommendations on next steps, to my dental hygienist, Megan, who not only cleaned my teeth extremely well, but also explained all the tools and the whole process of what she was doing next. Compared to other dentists I have been to before, I would say that the care I received is the gold standard for dental care.

I was having a cleaning so no charge to me. They said its their policy to keep a credit card on file. Not my policy, especially with their track record. So they canceled my appointment because I wouldn't give them my credit card for a cleaning that they shouldn't be charging me for anyway.

She offered to reschedule me for the next morning and to waive the $50 appointment cancellation fee. However, as soon as I left the office they started messaging me asking me to pay the fee. When I communicated with them about this fee being waived, they refused to honor what the hygienist had told me. When I politely questioned this, they promptly dismissed me as a patient. Did the implant process, and my dentist ordered a temp 'flipper' (tooth on a retainer). The tooth, as my dentist puts it 'looks like they took it out of a drawer and threw it on a retainer.' TOTALLY wrong color. Thank God for COVID and mandatory masks?? I have to wear this thing on my FRONT tooth for 4 months! My dentists asks them to redo it. New impressions, this is fun. Have an appointment for new flipper 'install,' what do you know, not done on time. Rescheduled, middle of another work day.... and despite the detailed instructions this place 'takes it upon themselves' to grind down the custom abutment in the impressions so, as usual, the flipper doesn't fit. Fun times. Let's waste more time. I'd like to interject, they also did my retainer, 3 years ago, which DIDN'T FIT. This was a separate procedure and I specifically recall the dentist saying, 'this lab doesn't get it.' FOUR encounters of a one star with this company. I can't comprehend how they are even in business. Literally, I am terrified for the final front crown. I will be asking my dentists to use a REAL lab who can read instructions and produce a decent product.

I found Dr. Burbach by reading his reviews and visiting his informative office web page. I'd just…read morehas an unfortunate time with my last dentist. Dr. Burbach's reviews were great except for one lady who thought he talked to much to his office staff but his work itself was fine. I decided to give him a try. I had no problem at all. Dr. Burbach is a very robust person and does love a good conversation but he kept me feeling entertained and included while I was in the chair. There's a real camaraderie in the office that I love. His hygenicists were cheerful, calm and seemed really informed. They told me that short of a cleaning, a few fillings and a root canal found on the X-rays I had no real need of the expensive deep cleanings my former dentist was advocating. The office staff gave me the overall cost which was thousands of dollars less than what my previous dentist wanted to charge me. Dr. Burbach did my root canal expertly and is working to help me keep my bridges rather than replace them. He worked with and saved what was there which I really appreciated. If I do eventually need to replace them. I am happy he'll be there to do it. He also fixed up a slight discoloration in one of my front teeth from an old bonding and did not charge me. I think he did it out of the goodness of his heart because he could see it was bothering me. The office is comfortable.. homey, with pretty views out the windows. I'd recommend Dr. Burbach to anyone but be prepared for a fun and funny dentist who really knows his stuff and can talk about anything under the sun. He does all procedures that can be done in the office himself and doesn't farm you out to other specialists. When I called after hours one day, I got Dr. Burbach's voice and a personal number where I could call him if I needed to after hours. Dr. Burbach gets my vote. Best dentist ever.. 5 Stars!!
