I gave this service 4 stars rather than 5 simply because learning to play classical guitar is so difficult that even the best teacher can not make it easy,.
In 1952 my grandfather took me to a Segovia concert perhaps in the hopes of
inspiring an interest in music. I never did manage to develop any musical talents but I
did not forget my fascination with classical guitar. Fast forward 60 years when I
finally had the time to take lessons. Fortunately for me I was introduced to
Ken Andrade by one of his adult students. The opportunity to study with Ken
has been critical to my success as I could only take on this challenge if it were to be
enjoyable and rewarding.
Ken first learned to play the guitar as an adult so he understands the unique experience of learning
with a brain that can be resistant to change. He is a concert level artist as well as
a professor of music giving me
an incredible opportunity to learn in a non threatening supportive environment.
Ken has allowed me to study and learn at my own speed so I have control over the
amount of time I spend practicing each week. I will say that learning became a lot
easier once I stopped trying to figure out my own "better" way and simply
used the specific technique I was being taught.
Gone are the days of doing homework out of fear of what will happen if I am not
prepared. Ken removes the fear aspect of learning and replaces it with logical
solutions to all the many challenges presented in studying such a difficult discipline.
I would not want to mislead- classical guitar is incredibly difficult. I had to use
multiple reward chocolate candies to keep myself motivated.
But now three years in, it is such a thrill to play my three piece repertoire for my friends that I no
longer need to use chocolate for inspiration. read more
