When I was 13, I watched melanoma kill a close relative in her forties. Health is the subject of a fair amount of anxiety for me, and my hundreds of moles have been an acute source of constant worry. I have worked with a half dozen dermatologists. Some were schooled at the top universities in the world (Harvard, Hopkins). Dr. Rockoff leaves them all behind. A Harvard law grad myself, I tend to intimidate people by barraging them with difficult questions when I'm tense. When we met, Dr. Rockoff took it all in stride. He was neither dismissive, nor did he indulge my anxiety (both make the anxiety much worse). He was, in short, kind of "fatherly," in a certain stereotypical sense. Supportive, but firm. Clear and positive, but realistic. By not being at all impressed or overwhelmed by the sheer force of my personality, he was able to build the deep trust I need to let someone else handle my skin. He's done a great job of managing the chronic stuff. But most important, he (and a little therapy!) have helped me take my nearly debilitating anxiety down so much that I rarely worry about cancer anymore. I could not have done it without his competence and expertise (he's seen tens of thousands of moles) and his spectacular bedside manner. Thank you Doctor Rockoff - you played a large part in changing my life!

I truly love this woman! Anyway, I only go to her for my annual physical but she is so professional/patient focused that I referred my boyfriend as well. She is so caring and actually takes the time to ask questions and not only listen to but answer all of mine w/o making me feel like I am taking up her time. She has a bedside manner like no other and I'll miss her someday when I leave MA. I also love Amie- Dr. Mandel's administrative assistant- so sweet and if Amie says she'll find something out for you, she means it- always smiles and makes you feel like you made a great decision by going to their office. The waiting room is clean and there is a t.v to help pass the time if there is a wait. You won't mind if you do have to wait b/c you know that you'll get the same attention that Dr. Mandel is giving to whoever she has is the exam room.

I made an appointment and visited Dr. Mandel and was blown away at her professionalism, honesty and downright knowledge of anything I was either curious about or interested in. She is a hands-on doctor who not only shows you how you currently stand health wise but helps you maintain or get to where you feel you want to be or where she thinks you have the potential of going. I would go as far as saying that she could easily be a life coach as well - she is just that well rounded and genuine about what she does.

My 3rd or 4th visit today in I think a span of 5 yrs? …read more I'll start this review with the fact that I spent years as a major sun worshiper, then tanning bed devotee always trying for the perfect -well, what I thought at the time was the perfect tan. More like leather So needless to say a LOT of damage was done. Neverending it seems. With the accumulation as it is I should be seeing a Dermatologist yearly. So that sounds good ... But " Chicken -Me" is an entirely different story! Nervous with raging anxiety, as soon as I got out of my parked car my knees started buckling... Thinking what will they find this time? Entering it's very clear that they are following all mandates during the pandemic. I shared the sparse waiting area with only one other person. . chairs are at opposite sides of the room. I felt completely safe. My actual wait time was at best 10 minutes. I was called in by a friendly assistant and taken to the exam room. Within no more than 5 minutes my exam began. I saw Nelya Christiansen PA-C . She is an absolute delight. She introduced herself and went over any concerns I had. Obviously she could see all the flaws, etc but was completely non- judgemental and took the time to listen to me. There wasnt any condescending attitude from her and I felt like I was in great hands - completely comfortable I won't go into the diagnosis or treatment. But what she did today was painless... Let me state that again - PAINLESS and basically done so quickly, I didn't really have much time to think about it .. Over in no time. How cool is that! Leaving, she again reiterated what was discussed and treatment and gave me the decision on when to return - which I prefer. I will definitely refer people to her! 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!

My adult children recently visited this dermatology office for the first time. While the front…read moredesk staff was pleasant and helpful, each of their appointments lasted 10 minutes or less. They both were new patients being seen for skin conditions, acne, and general skin cancer/mole check. I was amazed that all of these things could be checked and thoroughly discussed with them within this very short time frame. I waited in the waiting room for my son's appointment (my daughter went alone on her visit) to give him privacy as they are both learning to manage their own health care appointments, and are new to it. My son's appointment was very quick and he left with three prescriptions, one of which was $160 and the other approximately $90. No one mentioned to me that these were expensive medications, or offered me any alternatives until I found out at CVS what the bill would be! My daughter's appointment was worse. She left with some of the same expensive medications (again with no warning from the staff about the possible cost) and was incorrectly diagnosed with a fungal infection. She used the topical prescription-strength anti-fungal medicine for almost 4 weeks as directed, and saw no result. Her condition even worsened. She was so uncomfortable that we decided on a weekend to take her to the Minute Clinic in a nearby CVS. The N.P. there was fantastic! She asked if a skin scraping had been done to determine definitively that it was a fungal infection, and my daughter said no, that the doctor just looked at it visually. The N.P. said it didn't look at all fungal to her, and said it was textbook eczema, even showing us pictures from a medical book she had as a reference. She prescribed a brief course of oral prednisone to calm it down, and a different topical medication, appropriate for eczema. My daughter's skin healed very quickly and the condition has been at bay with this new topical medication. That alone was enough to make me not return to Northeast Dermatology. But when we got the bill, we noticed that my son's appointment was about $60 more than my daughter's, so my husband called to ask why, since they had the same new-patient visit with no extra tests or procedures. They couldn't explain why, and he asked if someone from the billing department could call him back, as they were gone for the day. We have never received a call back. I feel like the doctor appointments were too quick, and clearly not thorough enough in my daughter's case, since the doctor at the CVS Minute Clinic spent much more time and was extremely thorough in comparison. There was no attempt to discuss the exorbitant cost of the medications, and no satisfactory response when we had billing questions. It's possible we just got them on a bad day, but considering the overall experience I will not be returning there.

I asked for more information and she said the results were ugly under a microscope. It was confusing and alarming while giving me absolutely zero information about what was going in my body. Unhappy, I decided to go to MGH. In the process of trying to get the medical records transferred, I had to make four phone calls, all but one was extremely frustrating. There is one phone number for 15 offices and most the people answering are not well trained and were uncooperative while I was trying to get a resolution. The test results were not posted to my patient portal after three requests. To make matters worse the stainless steel cart in the office with medical supplies was covered in stains and looked as though it was pulled from the trash.
