Very big facility in Anderson compared to some of the Y's I've been to. They have a pool, track, a large space with machines and a smaller room in the back for with free weights. My mother in law brought me there for their Zumba class that morning. I found it to be more challenging and unique since they used very light weights in some parts of the class. It was a different pace than what I was used to because I think the demographic of the class was a bit older. I still thought the instructor did a good job. My only complaint is how slippery the floors were. read more

Horrible. I am a kid and I came heres. Please send your child somewhere else. Cameron is rude and yelled at us for no reason ( actually).

Best gym, pools, and more in the US! Whatever equipment you need to fulfill your exercise needs, they have it! Never wait for equipment to be free. There are multiples of everything! LOVE THIS YMCA read more

Lifeguards socialize instead of keeping the pool area safe. MAKOS swimming is NOT for children who need encouragement or accomodations. MAKOS swimming is also not for the children of working class parents (schedules and fees are not reasonable). Youth Soccer has a "sideline coach" who has actively impeded the ability of coaches to manage their teams. No discount for members who want to take Karate. The director of youth athletics declines to return phone calls. There's not enough parking and even though there is a poster showing where your membership fees go, and the National YMCA organization is listed, there is no reciprocity with other area YMCA. Members of other YMCA are not permitted to visit without paying outside guest fees. Outside guest fees are excessively expensive, another ploy to keep working class families out, it's not hyperinflation. read more

Kinda crazy that The Y doesn't sell pool passes on the weekend, some people work all week and only have weekends off and yaw denied a pool pass because it's the weekend stupidity to be honest read more

Good facilities the CrossFit classes are great! Super helpful and knowledgeable coaches with a great community.

I really wanted to make this my gym, but they are stringent in their policy about family memberships. They require you to be be married, which is bizarre in this day and age. No living together, no partnerships. read more

Came in around 10:30 on a Friday and they were busy. They had 2 people working the front desk and we waited for quite some time to get passes to get in. The workers apologized for the wait too because it was something they weren't expecting. For a day pass, adults are $10 and kids are $5. Even if you don't swim, you have to pay for the facility. There is a gym, indoor walking trail, indoor pools (laps, 82 degrees and 92 degrees pool) and a splash pad with slides. We utilized the splash pad and indoor pools. Before swimming, the kids must take a swimming test with the lifeguard. If thy pass, they wear a wristband to prove they can swim. If they don't, they must wear a life vest. In the outdoors area, there are pool lounge chairs in the sun and a covered section of tables and chairs. You can bring a cooler of food and drinks! The water outside was super cold. If you don't stay in it, it just shocks you. There are 3 lifeguards on duty outside at all times. It's a great kiddie pool. Indoors- there were aerobics and swim classes going on. After the aerobics class was over, though, the kids were able to use the 92 degree pool to swim. They liked this pool the best because all the other pools were way too cold. Indoors, there are 3 lifeguards on duty as well. read more

I have been a member of this YMCA for years, and I proudly recommend it to everyone. If you can not afford the membership fee, ask someone at the front desk about a program to help you with the cost. Don't let the membership fee be the reason you don't join. This is a state of the art facility which offers elliptical machines, steppers, treadmills, several machines whose names I don't know, free weights, weight machines in two different areas/rooms, TRX, CrossFit, racquetball, handball, an indoor pool, an indoor therapy pool, an indoor track, a basketball gym (also for volleyball), an outdoor water park (like) area for kids where adults can also go to lay out in the sun, etc., sauna rooms for men and women (separate), steam rooms for men and women (separate), locker rooms, showers, child care, team sports, meeting rooms and more that I am probably leaving out. The staff is top notch. Always eager to help, they are courteous and respectful. A better group of people you won't find than the folks at this Y. And one thing I have really grown to appreciate over the years...they are always updating/upgrading the facility and the equipment. Nothing stays for a long time; it is replaced with a newer and better version. This is nice, I don't take it for granted. And something else to consider when joining a gym...when you join the YMCA, you are supporting an organization that helps in the development of young girls and boys through sports and camps, etc. It's not like Gold's or Coop's...the YMCA is actually making a difference in the community. It's something to think about before spending your money. read more

Disappointed in the Y's promotion of Christian principles while bending to the acceptance and indulgence of sin in the secular world. Before signing up with this business, please understand they are not registered as a Christian organization any longer-they are now classified as a non-profit, I spoke with head staff in membership sales and expressed my experiences at other local gyms where inappropriate clothing is ignored. I was assured any inappropriate or lack of clothing would be immediately addressed when brought to the attention of staff. I was also provided with a copy of the dress code section of the handbook. Two weeks in to my membership, I've had to bring to staffs attention several independent situations where women are dressed to expose the flesh of their stomachs and buttocks. This morning, there was a woman in only a sports bra and shorts. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk staff he was kind enough to direct me to another area where staff were responsible for addressing dress code violations. When I expressed my concern they looked at me with blank faces and shrugs. I explained the entire situation, the conversations with the Director of Membership Sales, the previous incidents and my compassion for understanding that I know it's difficult to approach members about appropriate dress attire as defined in the handbook. I was met with blank stares and coldness. I then asked again, who was going to address the issue and the female employee stated that she would have to talk to her manager. I said that would be appreciated. However, who was going to handle the issue right now, and again, was just met with blank faces. I then clearly stated and asked, is no one going to address the issue? I was told by the female employee that that's not what she had said and continued to stare at me in silence and with a blank expression. I then asked for the employees names so that I could refer to them should I have the opportunity to speak with their manager. (I was told the manager was not in when I asked to speak to him) I then went back to the front desk to fill out a comments form, the second form I have filled out regarding this issue and again spoke with the gentleman up front and thanked him for his assistance. He was polite and direct with me while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. My experience today with this organization is that it may be another casualty of money over morals and promotion over principles. They represent themselves as a Christian organization, evidenced by biblical quotes on the walls, God centered memes on Instagram and Facebook and most notably, the mission statement and various "Christ centered" programs they offer. I have not found their mission statement "... to put Christian principles into practice..." to be a true reflection to date of how this agency operates. There is no clear definition for revealing attire aside from shirts must be worn over sports bras and men must wear shirts on the basketball courts. The line for appropriateness/sexually suggestive attire in a family facility is blurred. This is my opinion. It is my hope that the Y will be a better representation of the values in which they promote. I received a call a few hours after leaving the Y today from the director of operations. We were able to have a respectful dialogue regarding the conduct of his staff and the dress code despite said staff telling a different version of events (this hurts my heart). He has given me a lot to chew on and was professional and polite in his explanation of the back and forth the Y has had with dress code. I encourage anyone who has taken the time to read this and works out at the Y to please consider your motives in the attire you wear to a family establishment. Consider your fellow brothers and sisters and maintain a sense of modesty in the way you represent yourself before our God. read more

Absolutely the worst child care experience we've ever had. It consists of kids with no training watching children, at least at Mount Lebanon. My billing was messed up to begin with then nobody could fix it until I emailed the assistant director. If your child has any kind of issue they don't want to help deal with it. My child never wanted to go and hated it. The kids running it are rude and the lack of communication was ridiculous. read more

Joined for only a quarter-year. The steep fee may be worth it if you do several activities there. However, I did only Zumba classes and encountered cliques of participants who felt they had a "reserved spot" on the floor. Got tired of having to stand in the back of the room, straining to see the instructor. Suggest that instructors ask participants to alter or rotate their spots. read more

I just can't believe that NO ONE has written about this gym. I am pretty religious about exercising, so I know gyms. I've been to many gyms in many different countries. This one, with two pools, many cardio machines (that get updated and maintained regularly), racquetball courts, and an indoor walking track, among other things, is one of the best I've worked out in. There's also a LOT of positive energy here, and people of all ages seem to enjoy themselves while getting some good exercise. Staff is super-nice as well. If you're in the area, pay $8 for the guest pass. You will not regret it. BTW, I think the correct URL is http://www.andersonareaymca.org/. read more

Hey Chad, just wanted to let you know I had a yoga class today with Kim, her music was perfect, she asked if anyone had area's to work on and then did a fabulous hour of yoga, what a great addition to the Y. Will definitely look for her in future classes read more

We have had a family pass flyer several years and love this place. They have a great selection of weights and machines which I love, tons of treadmills and bikes and lots of space for those, plus an indoor track upstairs which admittedly I don't use but is a nice option. The childcare is super nice, the pool is great with a section for families, a lap pool and during the summer a splash pad outside my kids love. The class offerings are good for us, we have done swim lessons too and kids sports through the YMCA which are discounted for members. This isn't a perfect fit for everyone but for most people I think it offers a ton of value. read more

I've been a member here for about 6 months and I've only had great experiences. As a stay-at-home mom to a toddler, I'm most appreciative for the excellent childcare. I've been a member of many gyms and this is by far the best in terms of facilities. A wide range of new equipment, always clean, great group classes, and friendly staff. 100% worth the membership cost. read more

This Y is great if your bringing your family, that's about it. I mainly come to this location for pick up basketball. They always have half of the gym roped off for kids to run around etc, usually there's only one or two kids in there and they are over in the corner playing video games. Terrible idea by management to have the video games in the gym. So most of the time people will go to the other side of the court to shoot around while the pick up games with 10 guys on a half court are going on. The people watching the kids always get an attitude and say nobody can be on that half of the court even if there are no kids there, then the manager or whoever their boss is comes in and also has an attitude. Also I live in Charleston at the moment for school and have not been back for quite some time, came back today at the usual time pick basketball was going on to find out that there is kids basketball practice for 5hrs until closing time on both courts. For this place to be so religious I do not see how the staff could be so horrible. Other than that the gym, weight rooms are top notch Just an overall aggravating, irritating environment to exercise in. 1/10 read more

First off I would like to say I have been a member at The Y in Anderson SC since it was opened in it's current location in the early 2000's. I grew up using this gym and it is a pleasure when I come back into town to make a trip to the Y to use the great and unique equipment (nautilus, hammer strength, life fitness; all clean; all new; very well maintained and up-to-date) that my current gym(s) in Greenville do not have. If you are in Anderson, bypass Coops and Golds Gym and Planet fitness, pay the $10 guest fee and use these wonderful facilities for whatever needs you desire: Crossfit (additional cost I believe; not a crossfitter but classes are offered) fitness classes, pool, indoor running track, basketball courts, racquetball court, cycling class, sauna, steam room. I will say just as a negative, I have never had a bad experience at this gym but my most recent visit on Friday 05/21/16 the employees behind the desk seemed incompetent to handle a straight forward request and my patience ran a little thin as I waited 10 minutes and went through 3 different employees answering the same questions until someone could handle my request. Given I was lifting this frustration was channeled into additional motivation during my workout but something I had never experienced at this location before and I'm hopeful that the employees were going through training or new hires not yet accustomed to the policies and procedures and were simply needing reassurance to perform their task properly. GREAT GYM, GREAT EQUIPMENT, GREAT PEOPLE!! If you're in town or thinking about what gym is best for you, it is worth the monthly rates / guest fee prices from my experience. I always have a great workout when I go. 5PM on Monday's is crowded but ample space allows everyone to work in or work out during peak hours. Plenty of free weight area / room so that everyone isn't jammed into one 200 square foot area of a gym. I make trips to Anderson JUST so I can have an excuse to lift here....5 stars! read more
