I travel a lot for work and the ymcas are hit or miss, but this one is definitely a hit. plenty of space and equipment, nice floor plan, good lighting and friendly staff. there were some issues with finding me in the national data base but they still got me checked in.

Came in around 10:30 on a Friday and they were busy. They had 2 people working the front desk and we waited for quite some time to get passes to get in. The workers apologized for the wait too because it was something they weren't expecting. For a day pass, adults are $10 and kids are $5. Even if you don't swim, you have to pay for the facility. There is a gym, indoor walking trail, indoor pools (laps, 82 degrees and 92 degrees pool) and a splash pad with slides. We utilized the splash pad and indoor pools. Before swimming, the kids must take a swimming test with the lifeguard. If thy pass, they wear a wristband to prove they can swim. If they don't, they must wear a life vest. In the outdoors area, there are pool lounge chairs in the sun and a covered section of tables and chairs. You can bring a cooler of food and drinks! The water outside was super cold. If you don't stay in it, it just shocks you. There are 3 lifeguards on duty outside at all times. It's a great kiddie pool. Indoors- there were aerobics and swim classes going on. After the aerobics class was over, though, the kids were able to use the 92 degree pool to swim. They liked this pool the best because all the other pools were way too cold. Indoors, there are 3 lifeguards on duty as well.

This is MY GYM! The…read morefront desk employees are professional, friendly and helpful! They are always smiling, they are energetic, they are encouraging! THE COACHES, they push and push you some more, they encourage you, they work so hard! You walk into the doors of the Junkyard and you can expect consistency, you can expect to work hard and you can expect to walk out feeling like you got your butt kicked but wanting to come back for more! I walked into this gym two years ago and about 50lbs heavier. I didn't really know what to expect, I just knew I wanted to make a change, I was happy with myself and I wanted more. My previous work outs had been at the YMCA and I would just kind of go through the motions, never really saw any results. My first workout at the JY was hard, so hard I thought I might quit but then the coaches are there motivating you, pushing you, telling you that YOU CAN DO IT! And you know what? YOU CAN DO IT and do it again! This gym has built a community, one I'm proud to be apart of! If you have heard about how hard the classes are and you are thinking I'm not in shape enough, I can't go..Or it's too hard for me..Or I'm not a college student, I couldn't keep up.. None of that is true, this gym is for all ages, all body types, all fitness levels. You start on your level and you work to improve yourself, you get faster, you get stronger..at your own pace! The person beside you on the treadmill might be faster than you but let that motivate you to work harder! There's no excuse to not try one class because I promise after you go once, you'll be coming back for more! Don't let the fear of walking through the door stop you from trying it && if you need someone to go with, I'll go with you! I want to say thank you to this gym, the employees and coaches for all you do! I see all your hard work and I appreciate it. I am better because of y'all, I want to work harder because of what you all do! I appreciate everything!

BUT IF YOU ARE - yes, come here. This was a great experience. I'm always late and they received me and were super cool. I don't recommend being late though (I am working on that.) idr my coaches name but Gracie at the front was super cool. And the owner of the food bar was super sweet too. So all around good vibes. I died. I recommend it. Super cool inspirational video in the beginning ;) I dig it. I'll be back.

So I've gotten over my disgruntlement as a visitor and became a member. The gym is spacious so…read moresocial distancing is fairly easy. Equipment is in good shape and there's a lot of it, so that's all good. In reality, this is probably a 3-star place due to some small things that would be fixable if there were staff there 24/7. The first point is that the music is too loud in the weight area. It competes with your earbud, forcing you to turn up your own volume to compensate. Everyone wears earbuds anyway, so why not turn the music down? The second point is some damn annoying members, who lack gym etiquette. Leaving weights on stations after they're finished is the first grievance, and many members do it. The second one is specific to one person... he's a screamer (and not in a good way). Even if he's not lifting, but his partner is lifting, he will scream and shout. It turns people off and I've talked to the GM about it but nothing has changed. You can literally hear him from across the gym. That same guy also leaves stuff sitting ON several stations at a time. Not on the floor, but ON the equipment. This prevents them from being used without moving their stuff (which is a gym faux pas). Because these are not technically the issued the business, I gave them 4-stars. They could easily be 5-stars if they addressed some fairly easy issues.
