For cardio, they have three stair masters, tons of different treadmills and ellipticals and even the Jacob's ladder (one day I'll be brave enough to give this a try). The gym is surrounded by windows which makes working out so much better when there's natural light. With the gym membership, you also get to group classes and access to the pool. My favorite part is the discount on massages. An hour massage is $65. If you're a GHS employee, this gets knocked down to $60. Their massage therapists are fantastic - I leave feeling like a million bucks every time.

The stalls have vinyl shower curtains that are slimy. Considering this facility is owned by GHS, they ought to be ashamed by the lack of cleanliness. Furthermore, the classes are pretty sad. In cycle class I experienced one loud-mouthed, rude member. He wouldn't stop talking to his friend at a volume above the music! The instructor tried to quiet him down as it was rude to the rest of the class. This guy, at the end of class, yelled at the instructor that he will talk as loudly as he wants in class. When the instructor said "that's not polite to the other members" he stuck his butt out towards a studio full of people and screamed like a madman; "you can kiss my a**, go ahead kiss it!" over and over again. Mad! Didn't know what this guy was capable of. Had never seen anything like this happen in any of the 7 other gyms where I have been a member around the country. Crazy! It's pretty poorly run all around. Unprofessional. It's too bad bc it could be a decent facility if it were clean and better managed. Greenville needs more high-end health clubs.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere here. The gym itself looks exactly like the…read morepictures. It's a basic powerlifting gym, a bit larger than average but not huge. It has everything you need for powerlifting and strongman (no calibrated plates, fwiw, if that's important to you) but in fairness all I need is a power bar and some plates, so if you are picky maybe you'll disagree. But the thing that could have knocked me over was how friendly people were. I knew between being a guest and being every bit of USAPL preppy I would stick out like a sore thumb. Ok, I'll say it, I was intimidated by the strongmen (and woman). But I'm not sure I have ever been treated as one of the crew so quickly. Everyone, and I mean ev-er-y-one was super friendly, joked around with me, made sure I didn't need anything. No clue how such a great culture was built but I am so impressed. It could be an awful gym with horrible equipment (which it wasn't) and I'd still come back just for the environment.

You walk into the doors of the Junkyard and you can expect consistency, you can expect to work hard and you can expect to walk out feeling like you got your butt kicked but wanting to come back for more! I walked into this gym two years ago and about 50lbs heavier. I didn't really know what to expect, I just knew I wanted to make a change, I was happy with myself and I wanted more. My previous work outs had been at the YMCA and I would just kind of go through the motions, never really saw any results. My first workout at the JY was hard, so hard I thought I might quit but then the coaches are there motivating you, pushing you, telling you that YOU CAN DO IT! And you know what? YOU CAN DO IT and do it again! This gym has built a community, one I'm proud to be apart of! If you have heard about how hard the classes are and you are thinking I'm not in shape enough, I can't go..Or it's too hard for me..Or I'm not a college student, I couldn't keep up.. None of that is true, this gym is for all ages, all body types, all fitness levels. You start on your level and you work to improve yourself, you get faster, you get stronger..at your own pace! The person beside you on the treadmill might be faster than you but let that motivate you to work harder! There's no excuse to not try one class because I promise after you go once, you'll be coming back for more! Don't let the fear of walking through the door stop you from trying it && if you need someone to go with, I'll go with you! I want to say thank you to this gym, the employees and coaches for all you do! I see all your hard work and I appreciate it.
