This review is from AuGres, MI The experience was unprofessional and insulting. Dr. Van Horn came in after an hour and a half wait. He spent 5 literal minutes looking at my husband's eyes and said they were fine but dry and needed drops. This was after my husband failed over half the chart reading of letters and saying many were double. This was before drops were put in which made him unable to see. The tech refused to speak louder when I had to keep repeating her directions for his testing. She seemed to think it was amusing. My husband was treated poorly, I think, because he has several health issues and is over 80. It was like " what is the point, he's too old." His quality of life is just as important as a 20 year old and this was totally disrespectful and unprofessional. There are other good doctors there choose one of them. read more

Do not go there. Minus 10 stars, would never recommend. First, there is no privacy when you are telling the check in person your personal details to get registered- I had people standing directly behind me listening and able to read everything. I could also hear everything being said by the patient in the next cubby over. The acoustics are like being in a warehouse Second, the optometrists and assistants were very unprofessional. They stood in a group discussing, disparaging, and laughing about patients without regard for who could overhear them. I know because one of the people they were denigrating and laughing about was me. In the exam, I had complained about the flashing light or spark I would see out of the corner of my eye as well as a noticed increase in floaters that were actually causing difficulty when reading on a white screen or on white paper. My concerns were like so much dust in this doctor's mouth. He actually rolled his eyes as I was trying to explain what was happening. Third, I felt like I was being hustled in regards to eye wear. They are very negative about buying contacts and glasses on-line. And, while they didn't outright refuse to give me my prescription they made it quite clear what they thought of not getting glasses from them. They claimed to accept my insurance, the only one in a 50 mile radius that said they accepted it, but then they didn't use my insurance saying their "deal" was much better-which turned out to be a scam. I should have gotten a pair of glasses at no cost. At no time did they show me the frames my insurance covered, or even where the "cheap" frames were, even when asked. They were too busy chatting with each other to assist and there were a LOT of people there waiting to be helped. So several hundred dollars later.... I have a pair of glasses that don't fit right. They didn't fit right even after they "adjusted" them, they kept falling down my nose and painfully rubbed my ears and the side of my head behind my ears-while at the fitting. Instead of properly adjusting them, they instead suggested getting these silicone tubes to go over the earpieces and these foam things to go on the nose pads. The glasses also had blu-blocker. I expressly told them I didn't want it. It is so extreme, everything is yellow tinted. Blatantly and grossly yellow tinted. Think the yellow tinted glasses you sometimes see for people with glaucoma or those weird sunglasses for night vision. Yet I have to keep them. Even though they are not what I ordered. Maybe their surgery side is good, but I definitely wouldn't take the risk and I certainly won't go to them for an eye exam and glasses ever again. Nor will I recommend anyone else to go there either. I had a better, and cheaper, experience at Walmart. Walmart was actually able to adjust my Andersen glasses to fit properly, without slipping or pain and no added padding to achieve it. And, Walmart is happy to give you the eyeglass and contact prescription so you can order on line if you like. read more

In three different meetings with three different people(Doctor, Office manager, front desk) I have been told THREE different things about the headaches i was getting. The Doctor, said headaches NEVER have to deal with the eyes. The Office manager (Mrs. know it all) Says it depends on what "kind" of headache it is. The Front desk person, must think it had something to do with my eyes, because they sent me to a "Specialist" and all he said was NOTHING TO DO WITH MY EYES. That's the first problem, so for that meeting i was billed $200 dollars(took about 5 minutes) so when i got the bill i looked at it. I was charged as a new patient. A new patient who has been a patient of Anderson eye for two years. I ask why I'm being billed, and its because the front desk girl thought i needed to see a specialist instead of my normal eye doctor. (Either way I'm a patient of Anderson eye, each new doctor shouldn't be a new patient). I called to discuss this and was told by there BILLING OFFICE, it was wrong. So i had to call a manager to change it. The manager said nope its right. They literally cannot get there stories straight. It's impossible to contact anyone there. They then say "i didn't get any messages from you" as if there phone machines aren't working. Then any person you talk to is telling you a different story. Just an awful company. My old eye care (associates in eyecare) was absolutely incredible. Sadly my new insurance made me change and i was stuck with a scam ass medical company that still(after months) i have no clue about my headaches, or what the hell is happening with this bill. If the office manager is getting paid anything over minimum wage, the company is also getting scammed. Zero help, placed blame on me when it was her employees telling me different things, and oh she also got her PHD because she is diagnosing me different then the doctor i paid to see. What an experience. If you go here its your own fault i tried to warn you. read more

After being treated aggressively for an eye ulcer and visiting every 2-3 days for three weeks I feel compelled to share my complete satisfaction. I went in to pick up a pair of glasses, the whole process takes less than 3 minutes. I put my name on the waitlist and there was no one ahead of me but the staff were just talking to eachother and when I asked how long the wait is they said it will be just a moment to fill something out in the computer. Then they went to the back and it was a whole 30 minutes until they came out. Very not good staff. read more

Had the same experience with Tzipora K, until now it has been nine years and they have not improved, not even a little. I'm disappointed on attitude of Stephenie the receptionist. When you walk into the building, the first thing to do is to check in at the reception. While they are helping others, you stand behind the white line on the ground and wait. If you unfortunately meet the receptionist named Stephenie, don't expect her to call you over, because she will just rest her chin on her hands and look at you angrily. You must judge for yourself whether it is time to walk towards her and where to submit your paperwork she gave you after you finish it. There is no greeting, no smile, no guidance, only a strangely angry face that looks hateful to everyone who comes. read more

While I'm sure the negative reviews also seen here may accurately reflect those customers' experiences, I have to say they do not reflect my own. After three surgical procedures, two of which required months of preliminary exams performed every three weeks, I have found both the surgeons as well as the staff of Anderson Eye Associates to be highly competent and extremely professional as well as personable. As the owner of a manufacturing business, I'm very much attuned to the interactions between not only the staff and customers, but among the staff members themselves when they're not necessarily aware that anyone is listening in. Having spent (by now) many hours both waiting and being seen by many different staff members, I've been consistently impressed by the working and care environment that's been created at Anderson, and I speak from experience when I say that it's evidence of a very well-managed and well-staffed facility. My five-star rating is based on three surgeries and almost three years of regular experience with Anderson Eye Associates, and is well earned. read more

Felt it was important to share. Dr. Hazen was the most impersonal doctor I have ever experienced. Not friendly or nice. That is all.

Made an appt after being recommended by my current eye dr. due to seeing floaters. I was nervous going in to the appt as I have pretty bad myopia. I have always been told to call immediately if I see floaters or flashing as my retina could be detaching, which could result in loss of vision. Appt was very transactional. The tech was extremely rude, & did nothing to ease my mind. She didn't allow me to speak, and when she did, I was immediately interrupted. She did a very brief eye exam and was frustrated that she couldn't get my actual script correct in the first eye. She told me we had spent too much time on the first eye and she HAD to move on to the next eye still not having the correct script. I was walked throughout the building to different exam rooms without much care that I had no contacts in and could not see a thing. Directed me to sit in a chair I couldn't see, that had wheels on the bottom that I didn't know about, almost causing me to fall. While taking pictures of my eye, she was so frustrated and impatient she was actually groaning and sighing out loud making me feel even worse. Finally met with the Dr. who didn't introduce himself. Spent about less than 5 min with him, and he was already out the door before explaining anything to me. Said he would send me with a packet that would explain everything. Tech took me back out of the room, still no contacts in. Took me to the PUBLIC bathroom, and advised me put my contacts in, while I'm holding all my personal belongings with nowhere to put them. Trying to balance a contact case on the side of a disgusting sink, basically blind, holding my paperwork, without any contact solution, had me in absolute TEARS by the time I left this establishment. 0/10 would NEVER recommend to anyone I love and care about. read more

I have gone to Anderson Eye Associates for most of my life. To be honest after multiple bad experiences I'm not sure why me or anyone else in my family ever went back. Now that I have been elsewhere and have seen much better, I feel quite compelled to urge you to avoid Anderson! On one hand the doctors are quite friendly and it's the kind of place where the staff remembers you year to year. However, many of the office staff and the people who do the fittings are not so friendly. Especially the one receptionist! I imagine if you have ever been there or even called you may have encountered her, very unfortunately. She is not a friendly person and extremely impatient. My last experience at Anderson was about 8 months ago. I had gone in once for the eye exam and they gave me a free pair of contacts to try. A nice bonus, I suppose... However, the prescription didn't work out for me. So I came back in to be rechecked. I can't recall but I think I was most likely charged to be rechecked though I'm not sure due to the fact that I had insurance coverage on the exam at the time. If you don't have insurance or like mine, your insurance only covers exams and glasses every other year then this place is very expensive. Much more expensive than many competitors. Anyway, while being rechecked, Dr. Kocks seemed unable to figure out what would work. Somehow I was talked into BIFOCALS when I am only in my 20's and eventually even convinced to buy progressive lenses. This surprised many people and I have since been told that no one age should ever need progressive lenses and the idea to give me bifocals was a somewhat bizarre idea at all. But basically it seemed as Dr. Kocks was stumped. And while he has always been very friendly, in this experience as his frustration mounted he became very unfriendly. He quite simply did not know what to do for me but refused to admit this. I sure wish I had gone for a second opinion! At the time my insurance did not cover new glasses but I had no other option but to get new glasses. I know I was given some degree of a discount as most places do when you pay out of pocket. The frames I picked were not a big name designer or anything like that but between the way they mark their frames up and being talked into progressive lenses for an extra fee I ended up paying close to $500 for glasses! I recently had to purchase a new pair of glasses without insurance coverage elsewhere and got Tiffany and Co. designer frames for slightly less than half the price. In fact I bought two pairs of designer glasses for less than I paid for one non-designer pair of glasses at Anderson Eye! To top it all of these glasses REALLY did not work out for me. i recall being told something about a 90 day return policy and even watched another woman return her glasses. I ended up moving down to Metro Detroit shortly after getting the new glasses. I ended up having to send my mom back within the 90 days. Here she encountered the rude and impatient woman at the front desk who claimed I absolutely could NOT return the glasses and not only this, she INSISTED that my glasses were NOT bifocals! Now she could have gotten my chart or even just took one quick look at the glasses to find this out but instead she argued with my mother and refused to do anything about my issues with this pair of glasses I paid a steep price out of my own pocket for! In addition, I had had a pair of glasses before this that I took in to be adjusted and one of the women who adjusted them somehow bent the frames so the one lens stuck out of the frames and at times even fell out. I must have gone back 5 times to get this issue fixed and they never seemed to understand the issue and I finally gave up. The ordered some new part for the frames at one point but it still did nothing for the problem and as I said, i ultimately gave up and dealt with the lens regularly falling out! My parents who also go to Anderson Eye have reported issues with getting their glasses adjusted also. Needless to say, STAY AWAY FROM ANDERSON EYE ASSOCIATES! They charge extremely high prices, do not allow you to return your glasses if you have a problem, and the doctors themselves struggle at times with how to best treat your eyesight. read more

This was my first experience with eye care in 10 years but I can only hope no other eye care facility is like anderson eye. Problem after rudeness after problem. My appointment was set up for a diabetic eye exam. Nothing else. First they change my appointment day and time without saying anything to me. I got the recorded message reminder on a friday for an appointment on a monday. My appointment had been set for wednesday at a different time. They claimed "we sent you a post card" about the change. I later found out they sent several things to a non existent address and everything was returned to them. You would think they might call to inform me of the change since they knew I couldn't have gotten the post card but they chose not to. I show up for my appointment and begin my paperwork. A person calls me in for the first part of my exam. She acts like she is very angry to have to be giving me an exam. She does her thing, gives me some sets of eye drops, then puts me in the second waiting area. No big problem, she was just not nice to be around. Called in for the rest of the exam. The doctor comes in and is very nice. I have no issue with him. Very friendly. After being told my eyes look just fine for the diabetic exam I was told I had my prescription for glasses. Yes I have really needed glasses for years but I had no idea I was getting glasses from them. I was there for a diabetic eye exam and nothing else. Since I needed them anyway I went along with it. I told the woman running the glasses center I don't normally wear any kind and didn't have a lot of money for anything really fancy. That made her mad right away. She showed me 3 frames and it took less then 2 minutes for me to pick the one I wanted. As she's getting things filled out she starts telling me what a dangerous person I am, I'm not going to get my drivers license renewed, "call me first before you drive". She was not saying any of this in a joking manner. Billing was the last step. The diabetic eye exam will be run through my insurance and they'll bill me on that later. I pay for the glasses/eye exam now, about $170 for everything. A lot of money I had no idea I would be paying that afternoon. I leave. I'm called the next week and told my glasses are in. I go in to pick them up and the rude lady from before immediately says to pay her $81 before I can have the new glasses. I tell her no, I don't owe anything on them. She argues up and down that I owe her $81 and I'm not seeing the glasses until I pay. I stand there, explain exactly what I have paid, and tell her I'm not giving her anything. She eventually gives up and lets me get the glasses. They're fitted and I'm sent to billing to check on the mysterious $81. Turns out they forgot to subtract that off my bill I had already paid. Good thing I didn't just figure they knew what they were doing in that office. Bottom line, my doctor was very nice. Everyone else in the building was rude and/or incompetent. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Very nice staff and good doctor but after I ordered my $259 glasses (after insurance) I was told it would be a 2 week for the glasses. That is a long time to wait for expensive glasses. Then I asked for my Rx with the PD measurement. After the sales person sneered at me, he told me it would be a $25 charge for the PD measurement. I was shocked! Not only is charging for your Rx unethical it is possibly illegal. I will be reporting them to the FTC. Yes, I want to order my back-up pair of glasses online because they are just incase something happens to my good pair. Why spend an extra $250? Needless to say I will NEVER go back to Anderson. Lens Crafters is no more expensive, you will have your new glasses that day and they have no problem giving you your PD measurement! read more

We were patients of Anderson Eye for many years. We have since gone elsewhere. Here's some observations: 1. The Front Deck people are very courteous. 2. The Doctors are very courteous and qualified. 3. The assistants who do the exams are extremely rude and unprofessional. After the last few times were had to endure their rudeness, we took our business elsewhere. The office people stand around with their coffee cups talking about people in front of the patients. This is so unprofessional. There are many friendlier places to go in Saginaw that treat you much better than this place. read more

Very high-tech, kind workers,very open waiting room with lots of light coming in to make it very cozy lots of room, and a nice array of glasses to pick through. And i just got my first experince today! it was nice. but when the staff put in my eyedrops she put double in my right eye witch is not the biggest problem but it did affect it more than the other eye. after this apointment I had a hard time seeing , thats normal though. but my mom made me go to school. so I couldnt see when i had to sign in since I was late. it affected fully for my vision untill 9:17 am to 12:45pm. so not to long but i could not see for my life lol. anyway, i am going back to get glasses witch I plan on writing another review for this place after I get them. read more

I spent 2 hours in there to be seen to get prescription sunglasses. Spent $150 after insurance. Took two weeks to come in. When they came in they weren't even right. I asked for they to have my prescription in them, mirrored, and polarized. They came with no polarization and no mirror. So now I have to wait another two weeks for them to come back in. In the mean time I bought a $5 pair that are better than the ones I got from Andersen Eye. Will never go back again. read more

If I could give Dr. Hazen (son) a -0- I would. I hear he is an excellent surgeon. However, I am surprised he could walk trough the doorway his head is so big. Paid $6,000 for my cataract surgery so my vision would be 20/20 (meaning great vision near and far). After the first month, I could not see anything within 4 feet of me clear enough to be able to read. He told me to wear readers til the near vision kicked in. I did. I also asked if this would be correct and his answer was yes. About 6 weeks later at another appointment, he leaned in to about 6" of my face and told me I was hurting my eyes by using readers and to use a lesser power. ???? He told me to use the readers. He also relayed to me that his mother has the exact same lenses and she can read a newspaper just fine. Great for his mother but my eyes and her eyes are not the same. Every person is different. He then told me to use readers with a lesser power. ??? He just told me to use them again. Another month and another appointment, he told me again about his mother and at this point I really didn't care. He told me I had the most advanced cataract replacements and that my eyes would never get any better and there was nothing he could do. If I could go back in time, I never would have had the surgery done by him. He basically threw his hands up in the air (figuratively) and said nothing I can do and left me in tears in his office (so much for yes it will be fixed as he stated in January). He may be an excellent surgeon; however, the feedback I have received from quite a few people since then has been that his is extremely arrogant, actually blew up and stormed out the door when I semi cracked a joke about why didn't they make a stronger set of lenses, and telling a patient that his mother has the same lenses and has no trouble reading is rude and inappropriate. I wanted to punch him in the face. I was in another doctor's office today and relayed to them about his arrogance, and was really surprised that the staff there actually agreed with me. He may be a great surgeon but he has no skills with patients. He really never had to work to achieve his successes because he walked into his Father's practice and it shows. I have an appointment with another surgeon to see what can be done to correct this. Right now, I am using daily wear contact lenses to be able to read because I am not walking around my daughter's wedding with readers hung around my neck to be able to see clearly pictures or the food I am eating. I agree with the other people who say that it is like an assembly line - get them in and out and collect their money. I would not recommend this doctor if you want to be treated like a human being. read more

I've been going to Andersen for a couple of years now. The building is always super clean and they have T.V.'s everywhere to watch if you are in a waiting area. The staff I have worked with there are professional and the technology they are using all seems to be newer (good thing). What I really liked was the person I worked with took the time to explain every part of the exam and what it was for. I love learning new things. I wasn't in the building more than an hour and I left with the knowledge that my new glasses would be ready in about two weeks. A couple weeks later they were in and everything went as planned. took my son because know one can seem to figure out why he is still having trouble seeing with his glasses on and is failing his eye exams the staff was GREAT but I did not care for the eye DR he seen he seemed like he was bothered by us even my 14 year old son said he was just bothered like we was lying about him not being able to see and glasses was way over priced so after all that my son still cant see so waist of money I could have went to Walmart for a hell of a lot cheaper and at least there DR doesn't seem bothered when your in there WOULD NOT GO BACK OR RECOMEND read more

Worst eye exam ever, and huge over charges, that they bill to their customers, above what your insurance pays them..despite complaints that their products never satisfy..they simply tell you that they should, and over chyarge you..and threaten with collection agencies if bill are not paid within 20 days. Wish I had gone to Walmart in stead of Andersen Eye..would have saved a ton of money and had glasses that worked. read more

I stopped in to make an apt and the lady at the front desk, Lisa, was very short and seemed very rude. The staff calling patients also seemed rushed and unfriendly. The office looked modern and nice but it was just a negative environment. I am so glad I stopped in to make an appointment and not called on the phone. There are so many reviews stating the same thing. I have to wonder why the managers or doctors there don't see the rudeness in the staff. Best if you avoid this place! read more

Well I don't know what to say here. I see the reviews below with bad experiences and I felt compelled to write my own. I actually had a really wonderful experience. The staff were all quick to help and get me where I needed to be. The complaint of sitting in a waiting room for a bit seems normal to anyone that visits any Dr's office. But I must admit I didn't feel like I waited long at all. Read a couple news articles on my phone and then boom I was in getting my exam. Afterwards I went to the eye glass center and they had a great selection and they were very helpful. The glasses didnt seem extrodinarily expensive. Maybe I have better insurance that could account for the cost difference? Whether they made positive changes to improve or something since the previous folks were there I'm not sure but I will be going back in the future as I have no complaints. I know review sites tend to bring in the folks that are disgruntled so I felt it fair to give a differing view. read more

You can't get through on the phone and even when you leave multiple messages with detailed information they do not call you back, even in a minor emergency. I had to physically stop in to get any information at all and they didn't even have a reason for not returning my messages. It's no way to conduct a business. Go elsewhere. There are plenty of other optometrists that will treat you decently. read more
