I came in with my realtor at $788,000 all cash no contingencies and closing in 25 days, because Helen said there were multiple bids. They said if I came in at $800,000 the land was mine. I came in at $800,000, but since they were asking me to go up in price, I thought I would ask if they would give me more time for the closing. They said yes. I thought the deal was done except for all our signatures. My husband and I then signed ahead of the deadline of noon on Sunday. At 11:45, before the deadline, we were told we didn't get the land! We were shocked!!! We were told someone came in with a better deal. Well, I just found out the land sold for $721,000! MUCH LESS than what I was willing and able to pay! THIS WAS NOT A BETTER DEAL! She priced it properly, had productive open houses and helped us find my re than one buyer interested in the house. We moved to Oakland this June after living in San Diego for eleven years. My wife was starting a…read morenew job so we temporally rented to give us time to get a feel for the market and to find a good real estate agent. I had grown-up and spent most of my life in Berkeley and the surrounding area, so I definitely knew the East Bay well. We started off driving by open homes on the weekends so that we could find an agent that fit well with us both. In our search we met one agent after another that wanted to represent us...but none of them seemed to spark us. I'm a building contractor and understand homes well, and just didn't need agents telling me superfluous details about homes. We both wanted someone who really knew what was going on in the current market, and how to get the house we wanted. That is exactly what Michelle did! The first thing that struck us with Michelle was her out-going personality and knowledge of the many neighborhoods of the area. It was also obvious that most other agents seemed to know her very well. We had wanted an agent that was well- connected because we knew how important that is when it comes time to put an offer on a house. Let's face it...life is all about relationships. To make a long story not-so-long...we ended up getting the house we wanted entirely due to her advice. It was a very quick, competitive bidding process for the house and without her knowledge I have no doubt we wouldn't have gotten it. Looking back now with current information on other homes we were interested in at the time, her hunches were usually right. Michelle always listened, gave us her opinion and didn't "fluff things up" for us. She was extremely easy to work with, and if we ever end up selling our house (almost unimaginable...but life can be unpredictable), she'll be the one who will do it for us!

I recently had Miller's Builders completely renovate my very old kitchen, add a 1/2 bath, and at…read morethe same time do a complete seismic retrofit in the basement. My house was built in 1918. At that time, there was a wood burning stove in the kitchen. It was vented by a chimney that went from the basement up through the kitchen and then through an upstairs bedroom and out the roof. Sometime, probably mid 20th century, the kitchen was updated and the chimney was enclosed in a wall separating the space into a laundry room and tiny toilet room at the back wall of the house, and the kitchen in the front part of the original space. There were windows in the kitchen side wall originally, but before we moved in, in 1989, a building was built next-door up against my roof-line, leaving almost no natural light in the kitchen. After an architect and engineer confirmed the safety of taking out the chimney and wall surrounding it and cutting a huge picture window in the back wall of the house, Charles Miller, owner, and his friendly team of skilled craftsmen got to work. Charles and Julia, his project manager assistant, were completely on top of details like the order of work, procurement of materials, and scheduling sub-contractors so that the progress of the work was not interrupted. Also, when it comes to finishes, these people are perfectionists! The tiniest cosmetic details were handled with an aesthetic and artistic eye. If something needed to be re-done, Charles pointed out to me if I didn't notice it, and it was re-done without complaint. This project took about 5.5 months until full completion and I was able to use the kitchen by about 5 months. I did not have the luxury of moving out during the remodel, so I welcomed that the crew worked just Mondays through Thursdays. I enjoyed 3 day weekends without construction noise. I was the designer of the kitchen, aided by my architect, and my cabinet designer from Home Depot. So, it was useful to be available when necessary, to make choices of things like flooring, tiling, lighting and innards of the cabinets. One special highlight was installing inset stud-bay shelving on one wall. Martin, the carpenter extraordinaire, meticulously created gorgeous shallow shelves for both decorative and functional items. My friends come into my new gorgeous kitchen with natural and LED lighting and give it delighted praise. I'm here to say you can trust Miller's Builders to do the job right with friendly helpful attitudes. And the price was towards the lower end of the 4 bids I received before making my decision.
