I took a course in vacation a few years ago in Mexico and now after going through the real thing I'm grateful that I couldn't dive while in Mexico now that I know what I didn't know back then. The in pool instruction is great and there's lots of support from many pro's. With four instructors in the water with the students it's a very safe environment. You'll be glad you got your instruction here.

Firstly, I was verbally quoted $170 for the full service when I dropped the gear off, the total ended up being $213. I didn't mind the overcharge too much at first, thinking that everything had been properly done. However on my first dive after having the service, my dive computer's sensor was not working and so I was not able to track depth or time at all. I asked another dive shop to look at it and they said that the computer should have undergone a pressure test as part of the servicing, which would have detected this issue before it was given back to me. I contacted Benthic Scuba about the issue, luckily the computer was still covered under warranty and they were able to replace the computer through their Suunto rep (this was the only good part of my experience with this shop). I live in Bermuda and had to ship the computer back to Canada - I'm ok with the fact that I had to incur shipping costs to Canada. However I was also charged additional shipping costs for Benthic Scuba to ship the computer to the Suunto rep (which was not disclosed to me when I paid $70+ to ship to Canada initially, all to rectify an issue that should have been prevented by the shop in the first place). Worse than this was how I was treated as a customer in the email exchange with this scuba shop - Ron Waxman was completely unprofessional and insulting; his emails were written as if by an 8-year old having a tantrum, going so far as to threaten to take me to court for leaving a bad (but entirely factual) review. I thought that would be the end of my terrible experience with Benthic Scuba but unfortunately, my regulator is also leaking. Again, I took it to another shop and was told that the second stage was not properly adjusted when it was serviced. In my opinion, Benthic Scuba should be responsible for fixing both of these issues as they gave me my regulators back in worse condition than when I dropped them off. However I would rather find a more qualified technician who pays attention to the quality of their work, instead of contacting Benthic Scuba and being belittled by Ron Waxman again. At least this way I can rest assured that it will be done properly, despite the already ridiculous fee I had paid to Benthic for a job that was poorly done. I cannot attest to Benthic Scuba's diving courses, but if they service their gear how mine was serviced, or treat their students how I was treated as a customer, I would be worried. I would strongly discourage anyone from getting their gear (dis)serviced by this shop. Save yourself the money and the frustration and go somewhere else!
