I think i did eventually maybe end up passing a lot while exploring the trail, but I ended up just parking near the circle, which felt weird and had me anxious the neighbors would call and get my car towed. Other than that it's just getting out of winter so there's not much growth to see, but it's nice to get out even with the mud. Hopefully someone else's GPS will route them somewhere, or they just won't have the anxiety I did parking and driving through a neighborhood with kids playing around feeling like a creep LOL!

It is all still there and even better because with the hustle and bustle of life..Simple pleasures may fall to wayside. Recently, I went boating with friends. The word perfect comes to mind! So beautiful, relaxing and calming. The boat launch is very nice and there are places around the lake to stop, get a snack and use the facilities. The park is clean, super well-maintained and the staff were also nice. I will make it a point to come back a few times this summer! We are fortunate to have such a gem in our midst.

Now…read moreI'm able to carry on that Legacy to my son and daughter as well. 9 Mile Pier is located exactly where it says. You keep going straight down 9 Mile and you will dead end right into it. You will have to take a walk to get to where you want to be. There's a break wall on each side and finally when you walk about a mile down you reach the end of the pier. There is always a variety of people fishing. I have caught my fair share of his share with my little guy anywhere from panfish to bass that could probably hold a record. This is kind of a secret gem but not too many people know about because it's kind of tucked away. It's great to pack a picnic grab your fishing pole bring your kids and enjoy a warm day and Summer by the water.

Everything about the Grosse Pointe Park parks is first rate with one exception. The tennis courts…read moreat Windmill Pointe Park are just pitiful. They were resurfaced about 3 years ago and still look brand new. But, that is because they are completely unplayable. Whoever resurfaced those courts left air pockets that substantially effect play on all four courts. If you are a 3.0 player or above I would recommend finding another place to play. The problem for us GP Park residents is that they converted the Patterson Park courts to Pickleball courts leaving us without a playable tennis court in all of GPP. It is crying shame that those managing a park system like ours cannot find a solution to this problem.

I still remember as a kid swimming around the adult pool when it wasn't adult time and watching this bigger guy we all lovingly called Boblo boat swim around the perimeter of the pool by using his hands as wheel to pedal around the pool and do his laps. It was also the first time I saw the fool horror of the red Speedo from the slicked backer tall guy that would walk around proudly by the pool, only taking a dip to cool off some. This is where I took my tennis lessons as a kid. This is where I learned to fish over by the harbor piers. They have improved the community center and it's now a nice Tompkin's center and a great communal spot to watch movies. It's great for renting for parties and gatherings. I don't live in GPP any more but I have many friends that still do and thus I still am able to visit this wonderful park that holds so many fond childhood memories for me.

I was on a limited time crunch today, so I stuck mostly to the main, paved trails (happily many sections of this path still ran through the woods); but there are hiking and/or biking trails branching off in many directions all throughout the property. Make sure to watch the trail signs, as some are for bikers only. River Bends is also a dog friendly park, note that they must remain on a maximum of a 6ft leash at all times. While I visited today with only my pupperoni, River Bends park is great for kids of all ages. There are a multitude of play areas for children, great to help wear out their energy. There is also a disc golf course that winds throughout the park, supplying players with beautiful nature views. You could also enjoy a BBQ on one of their charcoal grills, relax at a picnic table, or pavilions if you have a large group; nature watch on a nearby bench, our even try out a game of horseshoe. The park appeared well maintained, for the most part; although a few signs could use some repair. They have restroom facilities, and port-a-pottys available for use (although I did not enter them to speak of their cleanliness). You can find trash receptacles around every bend, so there's no excuse for lazy littering, and there is a main sign available showing you all of the trails and their difficulties. You can find this sign posted off to the side of the parking lot; which itself, had plenty of available spots. Definitely a favorite park to stop and enjoy, highly recommend.

I've always seen the mountain bike trail on a Facebook post and so since my husband was driving up the area to group study with his cousin. I set up the bike rack and brung it along. Dropped him off at the starbuck and I came straight here. So the trail was rather pretty easy and laid back. None of the super high uphill climbs that'll destroy your quads, but it does have its moments. The drops were good and the course was rather nicely laid out. Theres even nice ramps and dips to make the trail lean over to the fun side. It's a bit short for the intermediate mountain bikers, but it's a ton of fun. Only recently constructed in 2004 during the first phase of the park's development, it stands at 63 feet tall and was designed as a scaled-down replica of the Tawas Point Lighthouse, a historic beacon on Lake Huron built in 1876. This lighthouse doesn't serve a traditional navigational role like its Great Lakes predecessors. Instead, it marks the entrance to the harbor and serves as a visual anchor for the park. The park itself was originally named Tri-Centennial State Park, commemorating the founding of Fort Detroit in 1701, and was later renamed in 2009 to honor Governor William G. Milliken, a champion of environmental stewardship. The lighthouse is not open for touring but the grounds around it are fully accessible from all angles.
