It's my favorite thing about living in Sterling Heights - seeing kids and teens out in nature doing what boys should be doing, instead of stuck at home glued to their phones or screens. They find many adventures along these trails and see wildlife similar to what I see driving 3 hours to our place up north. It's right in our backyard! They've always taken such good care of their parks. There's bike riding, kayaking, jogging, mountain bike trails, walking areas, and seriously the best nature you'll find within an hour and a half radius. The trails run all through Sterling Heights and end up in different parts of the city, or they'll lead you straight back to the Dodge Park or their awesome nature center!

Clinton River Heritage park was quite small, so not great for hiking or walking my doggo (I prefer avoiding sidewalks on main roads, and that would be the only nearby option to lengthen my walk). My second issue was that, once you crossed the main bridge, you pop out into a decent field, but it's directly behind a set of apartments, attached to their parking lot; not really a scenic view. That being said, Clinton River Heritage Park is still a very pretty sliver of nature in the middle of a busy city area. The views of the River are beautiful, and there are plenty of seats to sit and enjoy watching the wildlife. We came across some giant maple leaves, truly impressive, gave me a laugh comparing them to my pup. You have an available viewing dock, canoe/kayak drop in (although it looks to be currently closed), picnic tables, charcoal grills, benches, restroom, trash receptacles and a small children's play area. The parking lot is small, but honestly perfect for the needs of the park, and the cleanliness of the area was acceptable (although I cannot speak for the restrooms as I did not enter them). Overall, I think this is a great small park for the residents of the attached neighborhood/s, and great for River watching, but didn't quite fulfill my need for exercise and dog walking.

I still remember as a kid swimming around the adult pool when it wasn't adult time and watching this bigger guy we all lovingly called Boblo boat swim around the perimeter of the pool by using his hands as wheel to pedal around the pool and do his laps. It was also the first time I saw the fool horror of the red Speedo from the slicked backer tall guy that would walk around proudly by the pool, only taking a dip to cool off some. This is where I took my tennis lessons as a kid. This is where I learned to fish over by the harbor piers. They have improved the community center and it's now a nice Tompkin's center and a great communal spot to watch movies. It's great for renting for parties and gatherings. I don't live in GPP any more but I have many friends that still do and thus I still am able to visit this wonderful park that holds so many fond childhood memories for me.

Everything about the Grosse Pointe Park parks is first rate with one exception. The tennis courts…read moreat Windmill Pointe Park are just pitiful. They were resurfaced about 3 years ago and still look brand new. But, that is because they are completely unplayable. Whoever resurfaced those courts left air pockets that substantially effect play on all four courts. If you are a 3.0 player or above I would recommend finding another place to play. The problem for us GP Park residents is that they converted the Patterson Park courts to Pickleball courts leaving us without a playable tennis court in all of GPP. It is crying shame that those managing a park system like ours cannot find a solution to this problem.

Nice walking park off the beaten path in Roseville. I've lived over on this side of town for the…read morelast 10 years and didn't know this park existed until a few years ago. It's behind Pub Froggy off of 13 Mile. They have a walking track and are pet friendly. There is a playground for the kids as well as a pavilion with BBQ grills. In the middle of the park they have a baseball diamond. It's hardly ever crowded and it's a great place to walk and get some fresh air.

This nature sanctuary is a hidden gem in Shelby Township. And when I say hidden- I literally mean…read morehidden! Located south of 26 Mile Rd. off of Schoenherr Rd., if you blink you will literally miss it. The overgrowth of the trees, shrubs and other greenery makes it nearly impossible to see. The sign for certain is camouflaged, and the only tell that there is anything there is the small gravel parking lot. Which by the way, is only large enough to accommodate maybe 4 or 5 cars. But once you find this place you will be happy you did! I've passed this place more times than I can count. I've always been curious as to what it was, but just never stopped, that is until earlier this week (7/25/21). I came to explore this hidden, secret place with my 3 youngest children. Curious creatures they are, they were more then willing to venture into the thick brush to see what lies behind. After a few paces through what was Very thick, overgrown trees the spaced opened up to reveal what seemed to be a whole other world. It's was gorgeous! Simply put! As you can see from my pictures, some of the trail offers a planked path, while some of it is just nature's dirt. They day we went the mosquitoes were deadly! Like, life sucking deadly! HUGE TIP- wear your bug repellent!! Unless you like itching your skin to the point of raw. We got eaten up pretty bad, but as campers, we're used to it. But next time we go, I'll remember to spray us down. You must like nature to appreciate this trail. It's rustic, you will get dirt on your feet/shoes, there are bugs, spiders, and TONs of frogs and toads! Snakes? We didn't see any but in certain there is. The trail has 2 paths you can chose from at the beginning, you can go right or left. Once you get to the back of the trail, there is a 3rd path that isn't as well worn as the 1st two. We didn't venture onto the 3rd trail, but next time, with bug spray we plan on venturing out longer and further. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say the trail, once around is about 1-1.25 miles. But I could be totally wrong- don't quote me. I'll wear my Apple Watch next time and clock it. Overall a Great nature trail and we'll definitely be back. It's NATURE- how does she not get 5 stars!

The trails wind through beautiful scenery with so much nature to take in, and the rivers running throughout make it feel peaceful and relaxing. Every visit brings something new to see, whether it's wildlife, changing seasons, or a different view along the trail. It's the perfect place to walk, clear your mind, and enjoy the outdoors. I've never left disappointed. Sterling Heights is home to an extensive trail system with river views and natural area.

It's located across the street from Henry Ford ll high school and is easily missed if you're not looking for the entrance driveway. The trail is part of the Clinton River Park Trail System which is a quite a nice trail to bike along if you're a biker. Whether you like leisurely walks on a paved trail or walking along the well worn and rugged dirt trails, it's a relaxing and nature filled walk to enjoy and explore. There were quite a few bikers traversing the trail as well. With the playground and ball field, it's a nice park for the family and people of all ages to have some fun. Bring your frisbees, footballs, baseballs and bats and enjoy what this park has to offer.
