I felt compelled to write a review about my experience with this school and my infant son. We…read morestarted in the Nido room with Miss Julie as the lead teacher in October 2020 when son #2 was three months old. He was there for 11 short weeks and my experience here with the teacher and the program was terrible. I can not recommend this school, teacher or program to anyone looking for a Montessori program. Just for some context, Child #1 was enrolled in a Montessori program from 16 months to 4 years. My child's needs were not meant at any point while he attended this school and he would cry at the center most days. When I would pick him up, he was very upset. I completely feel that he was neglected most days (because he would cry all day and no one wanted to deal with him). The teacher would never follow his cues and would never get down and play with any of the babies. It did not seem like the lead teacher enjoyed being with the babies at any point. The lead teacher wanted all the babies to follow the same schedule and became very stressed and overwhelmed if they were not on a the same set schedule daily. When I was approached by the teacher about his excessive crying after about 5 weeks, I was told that he "needed to be checked out by a dr for acid reflex because he is so upset." He was evaluated by two drs and he was NEVER diagnosed with any health issues. He would never show signs of acid reflex at home. I have a ton of regret that I didn't pull the baby out of this day care earlier. It was a terrible environment, not nurturing or fostering in his development. I also feel like he was behind on some development milestones because no one worked with him on tummy time or practicing rolling over because they didn't want to deal with him. He is currently at a different Montessori day care and all these "issues" that the baby had at this school have failed to show up in a different program around other teachers and staff. I feel compelled to let other parents know about my experience; as I realize that after my feedback to the school about my experience in this room, no changes have been made. If you have a baby that requires a bit more attention, likes to be held and nurtured, this may not be a good fit.

Our daughter attended SCS for 3s Preschool and we had a wonderful experience. As she is our eldest,…read moreI was curious about exploring other educational models / learning methodology. I also was not yet 100% sold on paying for a Christian education. She did a year of Montessori preschool and two years at a homeschool hybrid. This process of exploration over three years helped me gain clarity on what we want to prioritize in our children's education. It ultimately led us back to SCS, with grateful hearts. She returned to SCS as a first grader this past school year and I was completely blown away. I'll touch on three areas of 'insider insight' that I couldn't have known about until we were part of the school: community, discipleship and spiritual maturity. Community Community is of utmost importance to me, especially coming from a small, tightly-knit homeschool community at our previous school. SCS not only met, but exceeded my expectations for a parent community. I immediately felt plugged in and connected to the parent community just by jumping into a few of the many opportunities for parent involvement like Parents in Prayer, Mom's Time Out, Women's Bible Study, Room Parent and Volunteer XC / Track Coach. Raising our children in a community of like-minded, trustworthy, faithful and believing families is high on our priority list and brings so much peace of mind. I have connected with and really love and enjoy, not just a handful of families, but SO many families at SCS! Discipleship We truly felt that our daughter's teacher and all of her 'specials' teachers (PE, Music, Art & Library) partnered with us in training her up in the ways she should go. A biblical worldview and curriculum is woven throughout all subjects. As such, we have a consistency of discipleship from home, to church, to school. Spiritual Maturity Growing in my own spiritual maturity over the past three years and critically thinking about what I want our kids to take away from their education convinced me of the importance of investing in a Christian education, including any sacrifice necessary to make that happen. This first year back at SCS only affirmed and solidified that decision for me. I recently attended the last chapel of the year which featured two graduating eighth grade speakers. I was moved to tears by the spiritual maturity of these two young ladies. The spiritual fruit of a Christian education was evident in their words. I left challenged, moved, and hopeful for my own young children's experience. My own daughter demonstrated so much spiritual growth this past year too. From the conversations we had, to the Bible stories she recounted to me, to the songs, pledges and other things she memorized - her little heart was captured. The culmination being when she gave her heart to Jesus toward the end of the year. Her teacher emailed my husband and I to share the good news and I just cried and praised God. Our daughter's first grade teacher and SCS are forever a part of our family's eternal story and we are beyond grateful. This school is educating for eternity and, as a parent, I can think of nothing more valuable.

She has grown so much for being a student here. The teachers are all simply put; amazing and I trust them wholeheartedly. The director of the school is always reachable and always proactive if I have any needs or concerns. I highly recommend the school and I'm grateful that my daughter was accepted here. I wanted to do a follow up; after 2 wonderful years, my daughter now attends kindergarten. At her first parent teacher conference, her teacher let me know that she was very advanced and doing extremely well and that Sunflower Montessori had prepared her well. Again I can't say enough positive things about Sunflower Montessori and would highly recommend it.

There isn't much this school has going for it. Take advice from a former student (me, now a…read moresophomore in high school) who had come back to this yelp page to give good feedback for the school and advice for parents thinking about enrolling their student. First, don't base the enrollment of your student off this review but please take note as to what your child might experience at this school. Now, into my insight on this school. Though I had been there only from 1st-6th I had to transfer due to poor ability to put kids in the right classes and an awful 1:35 male to woman staff employment. As you can tell, it is very uncommon to have very little male staff members, and you might be wondering "could this school give more opportunity to succeed for a girl rather than a boy" the answer is yes. many sexist teachers flood the school every year and they seem to have a vendetta against male students. Though this could be blindly overlooked when your student is younger, by 5th grade, it becomes very obvious. Second, the teachers' ability to teach proper lessons is awful. The school hires younger teachers so they can pay them less, in hope to save money. It also seems that training doesn't exist at this school because some teachers seem very clueless as to what new students might need for resources. In all, this school should not be your primary choice but feel free to overlook this comment
