After the retreat, there was an immediate and complete cutoff in communication with all of us--something entirely out of character and deeply painful. The staff were kind when I reached out, and I respect that many benefit from this practice. However, I don't believe there is enough awareness about how intense 10 days of silence and deep introspection can be, especially for someone already going through major life changes. When such a drastic shift happens so suddenly, it raises real concerns about vulnerability, influence, and lack of support during reintegration. Families should be aware and prepared for possible unexpected changes. If my daughter ever reads this: you are loved, missed, and always welcome back

The path is not paved and is not stroller friendly so keep that in mind if you have young kids or mobility concerns. For handicapped individuals, you can carefully drive all the way up to the temple. There is no official parking there but there is room to park. Once you arrive, you'll find a Buddhist peace pagoda, a temple, a pond, a zen garden, and other peaceful areas to explore. The pagoda was built in 1985 and expanded over the years. You can spend 20 minutes here or hours depending on your state of mind. I've been coming here for over 20 years and it's still one of my favorite places to slow down. The koi pond with the lily pads and frogs is always a highlight. I brought my 6 year old son and he was in awe of the temple, the monk drumming, and the quiet nature of the area. He kept talking about it afterward and said it was one of his favorite places he has been to in a while. The pond area almost has a maze like quality to it and the trees behind the grounds feel like a forest waiting to be explored so he especially loved exploring the grounds. Visitors can go inside the temple but keep in mind there are prayer times and other events happening. This is an active spiritual place so people should be quiet and respectful while visiting. There is no food available and I am not sure about public bathrooms. Expect little to no cell service, not just here but in Leverett in general.

If you like Tarot and Oracle cards this is the store for you (the selection is huge) but they have so much more. I personally love their soaps and candles that hide a little stone surprise inside them. One of my absolutely favorite places in the valley.

Parking is easy and I agree with other reviewers about the easy community feel between staff and class members. The studio is beautiful and clean, with a calming view of trees through three big picture windows. I have to say too, I do not take for granted that a heated yoga studio will smell clean- and Radiance has it down! I took two different classes here while I was in town. One with Abby, who stood out as straightforward, fun, and very capable teacher. I love a yoga class where people can laugh and feel natural, and she fosters that so well. The other class was with Becca, who has a totally different style- her class was calming, gentle, and very encouraging. I enjoyed both! The classes are heated with infrared but are only up to around 88 degrees so it wasn't too draining. Both teachers walked around class and gave verbal group cues but I didn't notice any individual corrections- so if that's important to you, I would ask about it when you come. One thing to note logistics-wise is that there are no showers or locker rooms, though the bathrooms are big enough to change in and people clear out pretty quickly after class ends so you aren't waiting long. There are open cubbies in the entry area and it felt safe to leave my stuff there especially since there's desk staff in full view the whole time. I really enjoyed checking this place out and plan to come back when I'm around again! Highly recommend.

(If you have been to a yoga classes that felt like an 80's workout led by a flight attendant or a class where the instructor was surrounded by such a massive haze of nag champa and new age lingo that they didn't seem to notice that there were other people in the room, then you might know what I'm talking about!) Radiance on the other hand, is one of my favorite studios. The teachers are present, grounded, insightful, brilliant at accommodating all levels and they are amazing, real, actual humans. The studio has a great balance of committed practice, mindfulness and even (my personal favorite) playfulness. Instructors are inspiring. They lead by example but also make personal contact and adjustments. (Which is so important) I always feel welcome and invited when I come in and leave feeling refreshed, renewed and invigorated.
