There is no better place to buy high-quality, locally made mementos, and affordable ones at that! Charleston Crafts is no exception. If I had unlimited funds, I'd clean this place out. Their selection runs the gamut of art forms and medias. Metal, wood, paper, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, glass, it's all here and then some. I spent a good half hour just perusing everything they have to offer. I've never seen a more extensive display of diverse artistry at a cooperative gallery. The Lowcountry is home to a ridiculous number of talented craftspeople. So when you're out and about downtown, don't forget to make a pit stop at Charleston Crafts. What better way to remember your trip to Charleston than with a unique craft or two? They're way cooler than mass-produced keychains and magnets. And if you're a local who has yet to visit, what are you waiting for?! Go support your local artists!

It's two miles off the highway, and you drive through a very unremarkable and plain town, although there is cheap gas!! Once off the highway, there isn't any signage to follow. But don't give up!! It's only about 2 miles away. I talked with the staff person, and this place exists because several local SC artists worked with the governor's office to create this artisans center to support and highlight local SC artists. So, it has the support of the state government. Otherwise, it probably wouldn't exist in this tiny little town. The art is located in an adorable house, and there is ample parking and in the back. As others have commented, there are more than 200 artists that have their work displayed. Prices are also reasonable. I tried to rush through the whole gallery, and it took focus. But, if you are tight on time, 30 minutes is a minimum. They also have a very clean bathroom, if you are looking for a pit stop anyway. I purchased a cutting board, pinch pot, and some hair berets. They have something for everyone, and I took a bunch of photos. I am definitely going to make this a regular stop each time that I drive by. It's one of the most impressive and compressive art stores that I have ever seen. In North Carolina she said that the "southern guild" is kinda like their sister organization, as I guess that the founders of these organizations got together and petitioned the governors' offices at the same time. This place is truly a gem, and I am so happy with my purchases. There are also other items that I didn't purchase, but at least you can see the photos of those items, too.

The staff is helpful and friendly and they have a variety of ceramics to choose from to paint. They also have options for painting canvases and creating glass art, which I haven't tried yet. I like the new location, which now has a space in the back with booths, etc for a quieter experience or for a group that needs a little more space to work. The only thing that threw me off was that there are a few different spots that have the ceramic options to paint, but they are on opposite side of the room, etc. So after browsing & selecting an item to paint, I happened to see another display on the other wall with items to choose from, but didn't notice them until after the fact. It would be a little easier to see all of my options in one area, but I also understand that people need the space to browse without being too crowded. I like being able to do something "artistic" without having a plan or following instructions. It might not always look the best, but I always have fun doing it!
