She always did an excellent job of explaining any/all procedures that were available and any risks or benefits involved. She encouraged me to listen to my own body and to pay attention to how I felt. (She also came to my house at 5 in the morning for a "false alarm" labor call! Now that's service.) I had the best birthing experience imaginable with Jasmine and I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat.

Whether you plan to go natural, have a C-section or something in between, Shannon certainly has the skills to support you in delivering your baby in a manner that's as close to your wishes as medically possible. As for the service, she provided an initial consult in our home, giving us an opportunity to interview her and decide if we connected and would be a good match in the labor and delivery room. She also booked two follow up appointments at which time we covered birth preferences, pain management techniques and she familiarized us with the tools she would bring on the big day. Shannon helped us learn rebozo techniques, tens unit application, counter pressure techniques and labor massage. She was in close contact up until delivery and was also available to me for questions, concerns and even suggestions for encouraging labor and engagement when I passed my due date. While I'd hoped to have an intervention free birth, I had to be induced and Shannon was incredibly supportive of every decision I made and helped me with keeping my labor progressing so I could avoid other interventions despite the need for pitocin. She was a calm, steady presence even when things got momentarily chaotic and gave me the encouragement I needed to work through the pain when I thought I couldn't keep going. While she has many wonderful qualities one would look for in a doula, I think I was most touched and surprised by her attention to detail and that she wrote the story of my birth and brought it over along with a crockpot meal at our follow up appointment two weeks postpartum. I would have never known the timeline of events had she not been noting them and I will forever cherish the story of my daughter's birth. Shannon is an absolute labor room rockstar!!!

During our initial conversations, she mentioned that she wasn't particularly happy with the area and hoped to pursue a new job after completing her master's program. We understood this to be something further down the road and had no reason to believe it would affect our plans. Roughly two months before our due date, we received an email sent to all of her clients informing us that she had accepted a position requiring her to relocate and would no longer be able to attend our births. Learning that our birth support was no longer available through a mass email, rather than a more personal conversation, was disappointing in itself. In subsequent correspondence, she explained that she had already interviewed for the position before we even met, which made the situation particularly frustrating. While we understand that hiring timelines can be unpredictable, this left us scrambling to find a new doula and establish a relationship with someone new at a very important time in our pregnancy. The situation was made more disappointing by the handling of our refund. Although she returned part of our initial payment, she retained a portion to compensate herself for our initial meeting and the client materials she provided. We asked her to reconsider given that she would no longer be providing the primary service we hired her for, but she declined. We were also disappointed by her suggestion that finding a less expensive replacement put us at a "net gain," as though having to replace our chosen birth support so close to our due date was somehow a benefit. We recognize that circumstances can change, but we believe communication, consideration, and accountability are especially important when working with expectant parents. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling that our circumstances and the disruption caused by her departure were not given the consideration we had hoped for. We would encourage anyone considering hiring her to ask detailed questions about future availability and potential career or relocation changes before committing.

When I arrived at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine location on La Cholla, I was "greeted" by a most rude and unsavory reception staff, in particular the woman who handled taking my payment. I couldn't believe I was being dogged when all I did was walk in the door! This nasty woman told me that my out of pocket cost that day was $359.49 and I would need to pay it before the ultrasound. I pressed on and asked if she was sure that was what I owed and was firmly told yes and if I didn't pay it I would not be seen and of course I paid the $359.49. Two months later I received an EOB from my insurance provider and lo and behold my out of pocket for the testing was not $359.49 it was $111.00 proving the woman at the front desk was wrong and she was a creep and I wonder if she does this to all patients. Young ladies go in there with pregnancy complications, and gynecological health concerns and they're worried and scared and other woman may not have had the $359.49 available at that moment - what happens to those girls? Are they told that they can't be seen unless they pay their co-pay? I can stand up for myself and fortunately I had the funds to cover the purported co-pay but not everyone does! I contacted the Genesis billing office twice and received no response. Between the nasty receptionist and the lack of return calls from billing, I'm sad to think that the practice may be void of personal communication and attention to patient needs OTHER than medical.

However, my main complaint is getting or rescheduling appointments. It's almost impossible. I find myself playing phone tag to set things up. That can get very nerve wrecking. I have had issues over the last few years with an ovary that twisted and a massive cyst. Recently, I had an agonizing experience where my remaining ovary twisted and poured blood into my pelvis and onto my rectum, then hardened. Dr. Brainard operated, removing the two masses of congealed blood, my uterus, remaining ovary and my cervix. It was a complicated, 5 hour surgery, and Dr Brainard even called in another surgeon to help with the issue of unsticking my bowel. They hysterectomy part of the surgery was amazing- the pain management and techniques she uses resulted in NONE of the horrible gas pains I had with my appendectomy and oophorectomy. I am six weeks out from my surgery, and nearly 100% pain-free for the last 2 weeks. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for good OB/GYN The staff at Copperstate are professional, efficient, and respectful. They are being extremely careful in this time of panedemic to ensure temperatures are taken, masks are worn, and limiting the number of people in the office. It completely eased my fears about going into a doctor office during the times of Covid-19.

I really loved my nurse practitioner. She's still there but what was always a busy practice turned into a factory assembly line. The doctors orders don't have any follow through. For example- nurse practitioner says to get a test and return in a month. Front desk at check out says they can't get me in for 6 months. Oh well. Mention it to the nurse practitioner and I get an " I am sorry and I know." Very unacceptable and tough conditions or people who work there. I found someone at Banner who looks at the portal and at least makes things happen. Bye bye Copperstate.

My husband and I hired Tucson Doulas to assist with the birth of our first baby together (my 3rd)…read more Our doulas, Vanessa And Mona, helped us create a birth plan that reflected our desires and needs, met with us throughout our pregnancy, and were available anytime I called or texted (even late at night) through my pregnancy. After a long, hard early labor our birth plan changed while at the hospital. Our doulas were there to help us discuss our options and give us space and guidance to make the best choices for us and our baby. It wasn't the birth we initially planned for, but it was the most empowered and in control birth I've had. Mona did our placenta encapsulation and they have been a wonderful supplement to my postpartum nutrition! If we ever have another baby this will be the first call we make!

Even though the situation was horrible Angela and Kyleen bent over backwards to make sure I l was taken care of mentally and physically and they were genuinely concerned with mine, and my son's, wellbeing. Although I never got my placenta encapsulated, I gained lifelong support systems and I couldn't be more thankful for their services.
