Found this provider after another nearby provider suffered ongoing staff turnover and also refused to provide me the data I need to purchase glasses online (instead of buying expensive frames through the business). Also, given some recent diagnoses, I wanted someone with significant training and experience. At my first appointment Dr. Amy was great and so were her medical assistants and other staff. They were organized and pleasant, and Dr. Amy was efficient and thorough. She's not rushing me into cataract surgery until it's really needed. She happily gave me all the measurements I need to order glasses online. I like that her front office is spacious and sunny and very convenient to the VA Square Metro neighborhood. There is a pay parking lot and also metered street parking. Note that she doesn't participate in vision benefit plans (which I don't have) and her fee for refraction (new prescriptions) was less than what I paid elsewhere. read more

I never write reviews but this experience still doesn't sit well with me: I'm sitting in one of Dr. Kotecha's exam rooms with blurry vision in one of my eyes waiting for the doctor. While I'm sitting there with my eyes dilated, a staffer comes in and says that there was a mistake and they do not take my insurance. They confirm with the doctor after some confusion that they do not take my insurance (even though they said they took my insurance on the phone when I made the appointment) and they tell me I will have to either pay out of pocket or imply that i could leave. They eventually agree to waive the out of pocket cost after about 20 minutes of waiting. But all was fine because I could see the doctor and they said they'd pay. However, during my exam, I felt that Dr. Kotecha essentially rushed me out the door. After taking a look at my eyes, she told me she couldn't help me and had no idea what the source of my blurry vision was. I was probably with her for about ten minutes. She even answered one of my questions about whether it was effective to use blue light filtering glasses to reduce eye strain with "couldn't hurt right" and I was out the door. A few weeks later, I receive a bill from her office which shows that they did bill my insurance which did pay. I was in network after all. So, I sat in her exam room, with my eyes dilated, waiting for Dr. Kotecha, trying to work with her staff on an insurance issue that they apparently made up because she wanted $180 dollars and not $90--which is the sum of what my insurance paid her office and what I paid her office as part of my cost share. read more

Went there because i was having a lot of issues with my eyes since i wear contact lenses. I explained my situation and the DR disregarded my concerns and she wanted me to do some type of surgery on my eyes that was very expensive she didnt have time to answer my questions. I went to another DOctor and he gave me antibotics two months later my eyes were fine and never have any issues. Avoid her if you can especially when she doesnt listen to her patients. read more

I decided to go with Dr. Kotecha because she's around the corner, rather than the eye doctor who did my laser eye surgery out in Tyson's Corner. This was a mistake. After some quick tests by a nurse and then waiting almost 30 minutes in the exam room, she came in and did a hasty eye exam. She did not tell me what my vision was (i.e. 20/20 etc.) but said I could use glasses (but I felt that the eye test was quite rushed and didn't trust the prescription she gave me). She mentioned that I didn't have any eye issues (i.e. glaucoma) as an afterthought, even though that was the main reason I came. Instead, she was most focused on telling me about products for wiping or treating dry eye (I'm fine with the eye drops I use) and giving me a bunch of trial sizes. Not to be too mean, but I also found her habit of talking to me with her eyes closed bizarre and distracting (and a bit ironic for an eye doctor). Finally, I found the big poster on the wall with Brooke Shields selling an eye-lash growing product to be inappropriate for a doctor's office. I regret switching from my more professional and thorough doctor in Tyson's Corner (See Clearly Vision) and am even considering going there soon for an eye exam I can feel more confident about. 5/1/11: Ended up making another eye appointment with See Clearly Vision in McLean. Much more thorough eye exam (both medical and vision), including additional tests that Dr. Kotecha's office did not do. The vision prescription was a little different and more exact. I saw her several times during the summer of 2010, first for a check up and then for dry eye issues. After she tried to hard sell me on getting what I though was an unecessary and expensive medication for my dry eyes, I decided to go with a different doctor. Unfortunately she has re-emerged. After a year and a half, all of a sudden I have received a bill from her, dated November 2011. This is the first time I have received a bill from her, yet it says "second notice." To figure out how in the world I could stil owe her money, I called the number of the "biller," which goes to what sounds like a personal voice mail and is unintelligible. Nobody has called me back from that number. I also have tried to call her office several times to address this problem. Surprise surprise, I haven't gotten a call back from them either. read more

Doctor is probably fine. Staff is completely retarded (two 20 year old KIDS). A visit that should have cost me 10$ ended up costing me 115$ + 2 missing boxes of contacts. Called numerous time, visited their office THREE times in person. Details: Came in for an contacts exam. All went as planned, then when insurance processing came along, I didn't understand what was going on so I told them to hold on purchasing the contacts because they couldn't give me a straight answer and paid for the exam out of pocket. Bought the contacts the day after, a supply of 6 months, and they said they will charge me for them 25$ extra even though I called and I was supposed to get the everything paid for except my 10$ copay. Thought I can just order it, pay 115$ total and not deal with this mess anymore. Guess what, they thought they ordered me a 6 month supply (which they quoted me for) but instead ordered me 3 month supply and told me that I'll have to pay the full rate for the other 3 months. Their mistake for quoting me, BUT they tell me I cannot return the contacts. Awesome. Guess what. All said and done, they tell me they can't help me at all. Told me to call the insurance company and beg them to give my money back. Waiting for their call as of right now. I'll probably have to visit the office for a 4th time. Dr. Amy is always so helpful. She is very pleasant and shows true concern for me. I've been able to get appointment times that work well for my schedule and quickly. I don't mess around when it comes to my eyes and she takes great care of me. The location is convenient and parking is easy if you drive. read more

Do not sign any agreements with this doctor without a lot of considerations. She charges for managing other surgeons for cataract surgery. You will not be able to get out of agreements. She has ironclad legal agreements and some of the agreements will go past dates of surgery. Notice all of her google ads. I regret every coming into her office. read more

*** STAY AWAY! *** RUSHED SERVICE, POOR DIAGNOSIS! RECEPTIONIST DID NOT DO HER JOB (POOR TRAINING ON DR. KOTECHA'S PART!) Unfortunately I was among the extremely unsatisfied patients who visited Amy Kotecha's doctor office. I found her online searching for an eye doctor in Arlington VA, since at that time I lived nearby. When I made the appointment on the phone I spoke to the receptionist and wanted to make sure I get a pre- authorization with my insurance and she promised she would make sure to do so. When I got to see Dr. Kotecha I explained to her the reason for coming that my eyes felt very irritated and it was obvious they were very red. During the entire time, must have been less than 10 min., I felt extremely rushed and I again explained to her that I previously spoke to the receptionist on the phone to get a pre- authorization from my insurance and wanted to make sure they cover the visit accordingly. Overall service rushed, she didn't take her time with me, or give me a thorough examination to provide me with a proper diagnosis. She just wrote me a prescription and in a flash she was gone. The office did not call the insurance company for a pre authorization as was discussed explicitly on the phone at the time I called for my appointment. These were direct instructions from my insurance company and the Dr. Office promised to follow them or I would NOT have gone. I even called to follow up several times and once in writing. Surprise, surprise they sent me a huge bill, for that less than 5 min visit and then sent me to collection. That sloppy Dr. Kotecha office did not get the pre-authorization to submit my claim to the insurance company. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMEND DR. KOTECHA"S OFFICE- STAY AWAY! I have been coming to see Dr. Amy Kotecha for a few years now and she's THE BEST! She has a Friendly staff too.

I arrived for my appointment and had to wait 60 minutes to see her with no explanation given. I still had a problem with my eye 30 days later and she just prescribed the same steroid drug again without seeking a different solution. Would not recommend. Went into this office for basic eye pain, which was due to a minor cut in my eye. I burned my eye doctor visit with my insurance when I went and as I was leaving Dr. Kotecha thought it would be good for me to come in for a "quick check up". I came back and was with the doctor for no more than 4 minutes and she simply said "yup - it looks good." 2 weeks later I was saddled with a bill for what was nothing more than her looking at my eye and leaving. I've never had a doctor charge a full visit charge for a "quick check up". If you're going to require your patients to come back in, please inform them that their visit is going to be treated like a normal visit. Lastly, she continually tried to sell me some ridiculously expensive $1000+ eye protein stuff to help heal my eye. My eye was perfectly fine without it within 3 days. read more

I also went to Dr Kotecha due to the convinient location.I had Glacoma and she wanted to treat the lazik eye surgery instead. She just asked me to deposit the amount and rushed me to make the surgery as soon as possible.I had question marks occured in my mind and i went to a glacoma specialist and thanks to god i did not have a lazik surgery as she said..I also paid all my bills to her and in addition they keep sending bills even after 1 year and it is very vital for anybody to go to this doctor. 1-After visiting her you should see another doctor because she only thinks about money. 2-Watch your credit history reports closely because of this doctor/office it is a high percentage to get a collection read more

I was a reluctant patient for several years--during which time the rotating cast of receptionists have: (1) given me an appointment at day X and then recorded day Y in their books, thus causing me to show up on the "wrong" day (2) submitted me to a collection agency without so much as a phone call or email (3) repeatedly broken promises to "get back to me" If you like people who treat you as a number rather than a person, then Amy Kotecha is your doctor! read more

Went there once and will not be going again. It was a really strange and awkward experience. I come in and no one greets or seems to want to help. The receptionists were rude until a customer started to complain about the wait time. They then started to be nice but it was creepy and fake. I will say that, when another patient comes in with more of a problem than is expected, the wait time grows a bit long. The thing is though that, when I go in and have more of a problem than was expected, she spent extra time with me. She had suggested that I come in a couple times a year since I have macular degeneration on one side of my family and glaucoma on the other side of my family. I went in for a regular check up, not suspecting a thing. The wait was a little long that day, but it's a danged good thing I stayed for my appointment, as she found telltale signs of glaucoma. She suggested I schedule another appointment in a couple weeks to see if the pressure in my eyes was still high. It was, and she found that there was also cupping in the optic nerves. So yep... Glaucoma. She prescribed drops to bring the pressure down and hopefully prevent damage to my eyesight. I'm very grateful that she found it. So yes, sometimes the wait is long. It is completely worth it though. If you require more time, she gives it to you, so I really don't mind waiting while she's taking more time with another patient. read more

Amy was very helpful in diagnosing my detached retina. Initial floaters were examined and the potential causes were explained such that I knew what to look for, when I might have ignored or delayed otherwise. When I suspected a detachment was evident, Dr Amy Kotecha made immediate room in her busy schedule to see me, referred me to a specialist immediately, and my detachment was repaired that same day (while less invasive procedures were still viable). I have been a patient of Dr. Amy Kotecha since she began work in her present practice. I have only the best things to say about the care I have received. Regardless of how busy she may be, Dr. Kotecha always makes me feel as if I am her only patient. She clearly explains every process and any findings or concerns she may have. Dr. Kotecha always thoroughly addresses my questions. She treats me with respect, kindness and positivity. When I leave Dr. Kotecha's office, I always feel relieved that I received quality care and understand the next steps to be taken, if any. I have seen Dr. Kotecha for a myriad of reasons (including annual check-ups, cyst removal from eyelid, follow-up visits after cataract surgery and emergency care for caustic chemicals in one eye). The level of care and positive attitude are always present! In addition, the staff are consistently friendly and helpful! I highly recommend Dr. Kotecha for all eye-care needs! read more

Incomplete Eye Exam! Don't go here if you need an eyeglass exam! I went there, paid for an eyeglass exam and tried to fill it online. They told me I was missing the pupil distance measurement. I called Dr. Kotecha's office to get it and they told me that it's not something they give since "most people go to eyeglass stores to get rx filled". First, that's not true. Second, they didn't even give me an option of how I could get it. So, not only is eye exam incomplete (why else would you get the exam if you weren't going to get glasses). But when I called to resolve the staff had 0% problem solving abilities (seriously they just could have said "sorry for miscommunication come in and we'll resolve). Better to just go somewhere else. Hate to give bad reviews, but have to on this one. read more

I've seen Dr. Kotecha about three times and haven't been pleased. I definitely won't be returning to her office. Every single time I went to her office (mind you, I had an appointment) I waited 45 minutes to and hour before seeing her and then only to speak with her for about 10 minutes! WTF! If you schedule someone for a certain time then I would expect to be seen either right away or least within 10 - 15 minutes. I don't even wait that long to see any of my other doctors. I just think it's ridiculous! I walked out of my last appointment because I was over it and didn't bother waiting any longer. I think it's just rude and inconsiderate. And the thing that gets me is that when you do see her she acts like she's your BFF which comes off fake. And to add to it the front desk receptionists are RUDE, which doesn't help. This is a so over due review that i owe it to everyone This has been the worse decision I made for my eye health, i should of listen to other yelpers when they said the doctor and the wait was not so great I called in for an emergency visit the lady was nice to get me in for an appointment the same day with in 30 minutes of my calling. My bad experience started after filling out the forms I waited over 45 minutes in the room for the doctor to come in and see me with in less than 3 minutes and diagnose me without even checking my eyes correctly. I felt like she was rushing the whole exam. She came in with a smile in her face acting like my BFF when she didn't even know who i was (don't act like my bff on the first visit, especially if you make me wait for an hour) anyways she gave me so many prescriptions, but didn't take the time to explain them, or what reactions I could expect,she said the pharmacist usually prints out a side affects sheet that should be helpful. I assumed my eyes would get better with in couple days but instead it got worse. So I called the office and asked to speak to the doctor because I was really concerned with my eyes i take care of my eyes alot, so I specifically ask to speak with the doctor and i understand there is other patients but a call back from her would of been nice but no her staff call me back telling me "i spoke with the doctor and she say.....blah blah blah" once again i ask the lady on the phone to please tell the doctor to call me but again she didnt, her STAFF called me again with the same response telling me that she is with patients and if i had any more question the doctor will answer them....what part of i need to talk to the doctor wasn't understood, i dont need to speak with the staff because they are not a specialized doctor and are not able to answer my questions with detail. Anyways She never called me back, i showed up for my follow up appointment weeks later because i was still experiencing blurry vision in my left eye that visit was almost the same, waited, waited, and waited for another 5 minutes check up and got an extra $55 charge The front desk explained to me that those $55 was for my glasses prescription that i never requested i just mention my vision was getting blurry but the doctor say it should be getting better in couple more days so why give me a prescription that i wont need and charge me $55 for it, after that visit i wont ever go back to them read more

This the worst and most unprofessional medical experience I have EVER had. Dr. Kotecha and her assistants just try to take your money. They charged me an extra $100 because I let them know I have allergic reactions to certain medicines, which I do for every doctor appointment to ensure my safety. Apparently, my telling them of allergies that I have for my records there was "mistaken" as my having an allergic reaction in my eye and needing medical attention, so they did not code my appointment as an annual visit (which is clearly was) but a medical appointment. They wrongly charged me $100 extra (on top of ridiculous other fees amounting to several hundred) and wrongly billed my medical insurance as well as vision insurance. Many hours of phone calls with insurance later, this was proven and rectified and I was reimbursed. But my bill was still around $200. To top it off, I come away with a contact lense and glasses prescription which I later find out are both WRONG. She said I had astigmatism in the wrong eye, changed my prescription WAY too much so I could not see well at all, and wrote the prescription such that it was incomplete and I could not order glasses or contacts. When I called about it, they begrudgingly admitted their mistakes and after arguing for a while, I finally got them to give me a free new eye exam to correct my prescriptions. If that is not a clear admission of wrongdoing, I do not know what is. If I could give zero stars, I would. NEVER go here!!! read more

I had a disappointing experience here. I came in for a new prescription, and she only spent a couple of minutes with me. I've been to several eye doctors over the years and this is the least thorough anyone has been. The billing and insurance they accept is incredibly confusing, and after several calls to their office after I had been charged, and my insurance, they told me they accept my insurance but not for the particular reason I went into the office. I first went to Dr. Kotecha in August of 2015 for an eye problem I'd been having, which she quickly diagnosed and helped me deal with. My previous eye doctor had missed it, simply telling me that it would heal. Instead, it got much worse. I'm so very grateful for Dr. Kotecha's extremely careful and thorough care. She listened very carefully and took time with me. She is also very personable, and was very comforting when she helped me understand my diagnosis. She was very committed to helping resolve the flare-up as quickly as possible, and then went further to explore the root of the condition so that we could prevent future problems (in my case, contact lens use and dry eyes). I never had to wait more than 10 minutes. She improved my dry eyes substantially, and I have not had another flare-up of my condition since. I have recommended her to friends and will continue to do so. read more

This is the first doctor of any kind that I've stopped seeing for any reason other than relocating out of town. I found Dr. Kotecha to be snobbish, arrogant, impatient, and more interested in "selling" than "treating." I went to her for 2 years and although I felt that way after the first visit, I decided to give it another try the following year and it was the same experience. I recently switched eye doctors and was determined to have an eye disorder that Dr. Kotecha no doubt failed to diagnose and in a case where an earlier diagnosis would have been extremely helpful. An emergency eye injury several years ago led me to Dr. Kotecha. It's comical when I look back at the circumstances, but also fortuitous in that my eye accident led me to a physician I will keep for life and have recommended to my closest friends. I incurred a corneal tear to one of my eyes after being hit with a glowstick by one of my daughter's friends at a Taylor Swift concert at the Verizon Center on a Sunday night several years ago. The impact of the hit made me feel like there was serious injury to my eye and there was. I went to bed desperately hoping for a physician to see me on a Monday morning in Arlington since I was driving with visibility from one eye only. I left a message with Dr. Kotecha (whom I pulled from the phonebook) before business hours and she herself called me back immediately. In speaking to her for a few minutes, I could hear compassion in her voice and a determination to see me immediately. When I came into the office, she and her staff took care of me like I was a celebrity, quickly getting me in and out with a bandage on my cornea where I could go back to work. I also had some follow-up visits until the eye healed completely. Prior to my eye accident, I did not have an ophthalmologist. However, due to the outstanding care I received, I decided I needed to continue on with Dr. Kotecha for the rest of my life for regular check ups even though my vision is good. Her exams are the most thorough I have ever received, and she has cutting edge equipment that gives me confidence that we can be on top of issues that could arise with my eyes. What I especially love is that Dr. Kotecha carefully explains all the tests she is performing and the diagnostic information about my eye that I did not know beforehand. In addition, if she perceives a potential condition, she informs me of all the options we can look at down the road. She is very solutions-oriented which I also appreciate. I only have one set of eyes which I need for everything, especially driving. I have hit the jackpot in finding Dr. Kotecha to help me maintain the most critical of my 5 senses. After a number of years of being a patient of Dr. Kotecha's, I feel honored and privileged that she will oversee the health of my eyes for the long haul. As for her office staff, they are polite and the seating in her office waiting room is spacious and comfortable where I can bring my laptop and work while I am waiting. As for her personality, she is a person of high integrity pursuing the highest good for her patients. I can say this based on being a loyal patient for years after my eye accident and having a bunch of Washingtonian's top doctors as my physicians, which gives me valuable perspective. I intend for my children to make Dr. Kotecha their physician when they are adults. Many of my friends are physicians who have a discerning eye when picking out physicians for themselves and their family members. I have recommended Dr. Kotecha to my physician friends and they plan to become patients - enough said. Best of luck finding a physician who practices ophthalmology better than Dr. Kotecha. read more

The doctor and her staff were extremely professional and pleasant. I was expecting otherwise based on the negative reviews I read but I assure I did not have those experiences. My visit was an annual checkup with some concern about pain in one eye. The doctor did examine my eyes and gave me sample eye drops and suggest Motrin.
