I called Max at AMX Plumbing after buying an old triplex in SF with a total mess of a pipe layout. Water, gas, vent, and sewer lines were all over the place, including kitchen pipes just exposed in the middle of the room. Max re-routed everything so it actually makes sense now, hid the kitchen lines behind the wall, and moved the main water lines to the laundry room. The bathroom remodel he did on top of that looks amazing too. Few things that stood out were he shows up when he says he will, works fast without cutting corners, and only takes on one job at a time so you're not competing for his attention. He also knows the SF permit/inspection process really well, which saved me money and a lot of stress. He's not just a plumber either, when I needed a 106-year-old staircase rebuilt with electrical work integrated, he handled it himself for way less than two separate electricians quoted me. Honestly one of the best contractors I've worked with. Highly recommend if you want it done right the first time. read more

My 10-year-old gas water heater sprung a leak. I logged onto Thumbtack at 8:30 p.m., and by 8:45 p.m. AMX Plumbing agreed to meet at 8 a.m. the next morning. Max arrived on time and explained how and why the problem occurred, and within a couple of hours installed a new heater. Most of all, I appreciate his immediate reply and his quick work. He is professional and pleasant to work with... I would highly recommend. Also his prices were fair and close to the lower range of costs I googled before I signed onto Thumbtack. read more

I wanted a competitive price to replace three of our four gas water heaters in our San Francisco building. I took pictures of the existing water heaters and wrote a description of what we needed, and used Yelp's system to request pricing from more than 20 licensed plumbers in San Francisco. Of the 6 companies that responded online with firm price quotes for this work based on my photos and written description, I selected Max at AMX plumbing to do the the work, and I am glad I did, for the following reasons: 1. Competitive pricing 2. Near immediate response to my request for online pricing 3. Excellent reviews and valid contractor's license 4. Available to start work almost immediately. 5. Ability to replace all three water heaters in a single day in less than 6 hours. Max is just the kind of contractor I am always looking for. He is the owner, communicator, and performer of most of the work, with only one helper. Fast and efficient, he obviously enjoys this work and has been doing it a long time. He keeps his overhead so low that he can pass some of the cost savings onto his customers. read more

I ended up not being able to use max for my big job, but I'm planning on using him after most of my construction is done. This guy was amazing, super professional and competitively priced. I screwed up and couldn't get the schedules to align, but I would 100% recommend this guy to anyone looking for a plumber. I really hoping that I can use in the future. read more

Max, at AMX Plumbing, gave me a fair quote, did excellent work and was completely professional during a hectic construction project. He also made some great recommendations and improved both the access to the main gas line coming into my home (adding a control switch) and installed flow controls for my upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. AMX was more affordable than other plumbers in San Francisco while maintaining a very high quality of services and overall project management. read more

Max is prompt, reliable and above all honest. He helped fix a few household problems and explained how to do it myself if I faced the same problem again. He also prices realistically with no additional charges. He will be our handyman on call read more

Max did a great job replacing our exterior gas line to our stove (3 stories up). He showed up on time and finished in just about 3-4 hrs - very efficient, especially since he had to troubleshoot screwing the pipes together, as they needed to be in perfect alignment in order to screw them together. At certain points, he had to cut the holes the pipes were going through, a little bit larger, so he could align them more easily. Max was kind, nice to talk to, and very informative. He gave me a fair price for the job that I could afford, unlike some of the other quotes I got, which seemed incredibly high. I will definitely call on him again in the future for other projects. Thanks a lot Max! read more

I somehow managed to screw up a few things and caused more problems when I tried to DIY a minor plumbing problem. As a result, the water valve to my washing machine began to leak more and I somehow managed to break my main water valve. I had to get a handyman to come in asap to fix the washing machine valve but decided to wait on the main water valve as it wasn't as bad. AMX came the next morning to fix the main. I should've just waited and hired Max at AMX plumbing for both jobs. His quote for the main water valve was cheaper than the handyman, he's licensed, and went above and beyond to fix my problem. The other handyman straight up took advantage of me for a simple fix. AMX wanted to take care of me. Much better pricing and more reliable work. I might have to redo the work the handyman did but I'm pretty sure AMX work won't need to be redone. Highly recommend. read more

Max was professional, up front and efficient. His quotes were reasonable and his work excellent

Max was super great at installing a new gas line for a fire pit for our condo building. He was super fast, coming out for an estimate on Tuesday and back on Friday to complete the work. He didn't overly complicate the job and was reasonably priced. His communication was great throughout and was in-and-out the same day. We'll definitely be keeping him on our list of preferred vendors for any future plumbing work we'll need. Highly recommend. read more

I try to legalize two as built bathrooms. Hired an architect to draw up the plan and got approved. I was able to get building and electrical permit as an owner. But the city won't give me the permit for plumbing. I was so stressed out and frustrated. Since I don't know any plumbers so I looked up yelp and sent quote requests. I am so glad I found Max. He gave me a quote over the phone and we met the next few days. He is a very nice guy, professional, and efficient. He advised me what to do and helped pull the permit the same day. He was there for every step during the inspection process, gave me great advice, and provided professional services. Inspection was passed with minimal issues due to the city's process. We were extremely happy and really appreciate the help Max provided. And Max's price is very reasonable. He is easy to work with, efficient, and has great personality. We will definitely recommend Max to our friends and families, and go back to Max for any future projects. Thank you so much, Max! read more

I have had AMX Plumbing (Max and Chuck) work on several projects for me in the past few years. They installed a water heater as well as a partial remodel for a half-bath, as well as a backed-up sewer line and new piping to place a new outdoor drain in my garden. All work was extremely well-done, he always arrived punctually, and worked continuously while communicating with me the next steps. I was informed what needed to be done, was explained all options and quoted reasonable estimates from which Max never veered. I am very satisfied with the work he does as a professional who knows his business and craftsmanship, as well as his respectful attitude. I too will be calling him for any future projects I will have. Don't hesitate to contact him! read more

Did a fantastic job on install of kitchen fixtures and replacing wax ring on commode. Very nicely run family business.

AMX plumbing is owned by Max Nguyen. Max is a contractor who does the work himself rather than just hire other people. He has done several projects for us over the last five years and we are completely satisfied. Last month we decided to replace the remaining galvanised piping in our home with copper and install new showers. After reviewing the condition of the piping system, Max gave us several options. We chose an option which brought down our cost and was within our timeline. Max is highly skilled and proficient in many areas of home repair in addition to plumbing. He is a creative thinker and can think outside the box. Max and his brother, Chucky work as a team and we will definitely be calling them in the future to do more work in our home. You will be completely satisfied in every respect with AMX Plumbing! read more

Max and his brother did an amazing job! They were efficient, clean, and communicative. I had them change hardware for several sinks and a shower, as well as add a small sink to a toilet-only bathroom. They did an amazing job with minimal impact to the existing (old) beadboard. Would wholeheartedly recommend for plumbing projects! read more

Max is rude and extremely disrespectful! Watch out for this guy and his business attitude. He cares nothing about his clients and comes off one way joking to suck you in but, beware of the Devil. He can turn on and off in a matter of seconds. He'll try to give you his so call Professional opinion to only get more money out of you. He literally gets mad when you ask him questions which is an excellent sign of misleading information and to get you out of more money. Max might know what he's doing but no amount of knowledge can take the place of being pressured into making you spend more money. He's a huge scam artist who has mastered his craft by yelling at his clients. He doesn't clean up after himself or respect your home. BEWARE he also has a tendency to not give upfront market pricing. Never meet a big liar like Max before. If that's his real name. Whenever someone is found out they act actually like him. BEWARE you might have to have your bodyguard on hand and it's not worth the hassle of his services. Hire someone who gives you RESPECT and good service at the same time. Not someone who feels like they're doing you a favor by scamming you out of your hard earned money! Would give AMX a negative 0 if could BEWARE!!!!! read more

I had a minor issue with my shower in my apartment, and I called on Max to come check it out. Max was prompt, cheerful, and really helpful! He came in, helped diagnose the issue, and laid out a variety of options depending on my desired timeframe. Since it was close to Thanksgiving, and he had other jobs to run - he recommended me where I could go pick up the required parts so I could get the job completed faster. He then made some time to return to reassemble the shower for me - illustrating and teaching me along the way so that I'd be able to explain the issue to my landlord. I'm very thankful for Max's help and had a really great experience. Would recommend! read more

Max does quality work and does it on time. He did a complete remodel of my kitchen floor and a down-to-the-studs rebuild of bathroom and was done on time and within the budget he set out with. He didn't try to lure me in with a low bid that crept up - he was honest about costs and made great progress. He was easy to work with and if I wasn't sure about some items, he'd text me photos of options. He also sent me texts along the way letting me know the progress. Best of all - he cleaned up so well and so frequently that my neighbors in the building didn't mind him being there. (We've had other contractors create piles of debris in the back - not Max!) Would highly recommend. read more

Max is awesome. I was referred to Max through Kohler Heating. Max was great to work with--he was very responsive and asked the right questions. I really like the way Max works. He was very responsive when I first contacted him about a sink leak, and then he was prompt and professional when he showed up when he said he would. As funny as that sounds, most of the servicemen I contact usually give me a range of times when they would appear, and do so on the later end of the spectrum. With Max, he was also very accurate on how much the repair would cost me, and made sure to get my permission when he need to do an extra repair. I highly recommend Max as a plumber, and he will be on my speed dial! read more

Max, Chucky, and the rest of his crew are wonderful to work with. We first met Max when we needed a new water heater and wanted to go tankless. Max was quick and efficient handling a tricky 100 year old basement placement and following proper code. We found out he also does remodeling. We were so happy with his work that we hired him to do a full bathroom remodel and closet to laundry room conversion. His bid was very reasonable and we found ourselves expanding the project because we were so happy with his work. The crew has great attention to detail and are very good at problem solving as needed. They use quality materials, are prompt, always keep the job site tidy and are extremely respectful of your space and time. The only drawback is that Max is very busy and it is a small family run operation and so it often takes him a while to get a bid for new projects but AMX is worth the wait!!! read more

Needed to replace a toilet fill valve in my condo. Max was great. I'd emailed for an estimate and then called in to confirm and schedule an appointment. Professional, prompt and present. If I need help again I would definitely go to him. Thanks Max! read more

Max recently completed some work on a home we purchased that needed some plumbing work. He replaced the water heater, extended some water lines to add a bib to the backyard, installed a laundry sink, set up washer and dryer hookups and installed a water pressure reducing valve with an expansion tank. He provided a written estimate of how much the work would cost and thought it would take a couple days. He arrived on time on Monday and got to work with all of the tools and material needed to do the work. He asked for clarification when needed to ensure placement of sink etc., but mostly set off to complete all tasks. Max did an awesome job. He always cleaned up the work area when he was finished for the day. He finished when he thought he would and the price was exactly what we had agreed to before the work. No surprises. I would recommend Max to anyone for plumbing work. He was reliable, honest and trustworthy and he cares about his work. The plumbing functions as it should and it looks neat. Max cares about his work and it was pleasure working with him. read more

Max solved a problem that other plumbers either said couldn't be solved - or wanted to solve with ugly visible pipes. Guy wouldn't give me a quote until I told him what floor we lived on. Seems a little unfair to charge people for what floor they live on. Truly an excellent job! I can't say enough about Max, he is very professional, precise with estimates and how long the job would take. My new copper plumbing is great and my new thankless water heater is so quick to heat the water! I am also thankful that he spotted some severe wear on some of my old "out going water" pipes and was able to change them to a much more efficient kind of pipe. You're the best Max...oh, and thanks for changing my shower head to that awesome "rain shower head". Thanks again...you rock! read more

I've been using Max for many years. From our very first Dinosaurs Sandwich shop in the Castro... He is very attentive and detail oriented when it comes to knowing exactly what you need and how you want things done. His experience and skill truly show in his work. We/ve thrown obstacles his way like installing a 3 compartment, hand-wash, and food prep sink in a limited space. Our ocean location is 200sq ft and without his type of skill and experience i don't think anyone else could've got the job done right. Ive had to use other plumbers in the past whenever Max is out of town or too busy with jobs and I have to say its the worst experience. I've had plumbers quote us and accept the full job and then try to pull a fast one at the end to argue the quote was for labor only and they'd tack on a few hundred dollars more for parts. I've been doing this for 6 years... 4 sandwich shops and a production kitchen. I know what going rates are, i get the same type of sinks and grease traps installed every time we do a build out so I know when we're getting ripped off. Max's prices has always been more then fair and often gives us deals because of the bulk jobs we need done and how long we've been working with him. I would highly recommend him for any commercial or residential type application. He does a finish job. What i mean by that... Let me give an example: I've had plumbers that cut sheet rock holes out of our wall to expose pipes install sinks and at the end leave the wall exposed and say the work is done. Max doesn't cut corners and will always patch our walls back and have the job looking complete to where I dont have to have another contractor come in to finish the job or do the work myself. I've also had plumbers that have mounted sinks to my wall that don't find a stud or at the minimum use wall anchors. Then after a few weeks the sink would shake off the wall. Max will always locate a stud or install a cross member to be supported by a stud to have that sink sturdy. He gets the job done right which will last many many years. I could probably stand on the sinks he's installed at all my shops. If anyone would ever like to come see the work he's done at any of our Dinosaur Sandwiches locations feel free to message me. read more
