I got a large 6 person wood dinning tables and chairs for $150, a 6 person cheap plastic and metal wire dinning set from Amazon cost the same price and definitely won't last as long. Christmas items are almost always 50% off so check that out for some cheap decor. The staff has always been kind, friendly, and helpful, especially when helping to load furniture into my truck. It's close to where I live. They rotate sales by colored tags every week. Plus they have 50% off the entire store on holidays like memorial day, president's day, veteran's day because of veterans. I got good stuff for affordable prices: silk scarves, a supple leather jacket, barely worn sneakers, summer work clothes. The price is similar to Goodwill's but I love the colored tag sales (25% or 50%). Basically in a week, there are two colors on sale, one for 25% off and the other 50% off. The 25% off one will become 50% off in the following week where a new 25% color will appear. The lighting inside the dressing room could be better because the temperature is not flattering and it's from above your head. Also I wish there are more mirrors in the store, instead of only 1 in the main aisle between women's wear and men's wear. The floor is dusty in certain places so just be careful. This is my favorite thrift store in Rochester so far. Such a wide selection of items at cheap thrift store prices; when I got to the register, I found out they were having a sale, so I paid about half of what I expected to. Clothes, books, furniture, kitchen goods, decorations, CDs, whatever you could think of - I found it there. Merchandise was well-organized for a thrift store and it was pretty easy to find what I was looking for. Would go much more regularly if it was more easily accessible by bus (bring a car or take an Uber if you're trying to get there). read more

This AMVETS thrift store fills the space formerly occupied by Steve & Barry's, which is ironic in that the clothing items once sold by that landfill fashion pioneer were probably less expensive than a lot of the items sold here. Yet that is the allure of the thrift store. I mean, who wants to buy brand-new Chinese made t-shirts for $5.00 when you can get them previously enjoyed for $4.99? I kid, I kid... there are a lot of interesting pieces of bric-a-brac available here on a daily basis, plus TONS of odd items and general ephemera. I stop by here often and have found some real collectibles here nestled amidst TONS of crap. Still, it's a fun place to visit. read more

Having discovered this rather large thrift store, I was eager to see what AMVETS would carry. Isn't it amazing to see so many thrift stores all in one convenient location? You have this, Goodwill, and Volunteers of America all just in walking distance within each other. However, this review is just for AMVETS. The bulk of this store is mostly clothing which takes up the whole middle of the store, men and women included. So how about price? Well they are cheap and most popular brands can be found among the racks but with all the searching required, it can be a lengthy adventure trying to find the right piece of clothing you want. In spite of this, all the clothes are never out of place and are all free of "cosmetic damage", but throw them in the wash if you still have second thoughts. Besides clothing, they have a great selection of furniture, priced just right, media area which includes DVD's, VHS, CD's, and Cassettes, books, used and vintage electronics, and other knick-knacks that are used to take up space in your house. By the registers, the more modern and complete items are kept in the cabinets that are nicely priced according to what they are. After over an hour browsing and coming up with some great electronic finds, I was given a coupon on the back of my receipt for $4.00 off my next purchase of $15.00 or more items, which now makes me want to come back again! Overall, the store is well cleaned, has a great staff and it's just unique to drop by anytime just to see what AMVETS will carry. I was in Rochester just popping through and made a quick stop here. As a thrift store, AMVETS is clean, well organized and has a lot of selection. It also seems like they restock often. The prices can be a bit high for some items but considering they are usually high quality pieces and all funds go to a good cause, I highly suggest a stop. This thrift store has good turnover and interesting finds. They support the best cause I know of and have fair pricing. I have found a good mix of antiques and mid century modern furniture. I would recommend making regular stops as the inventory does change often. It's worth the visits. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I waited 2 weeks for them to come and pick up my donations. They left more than they took. Most of my stuff is in great condition. Told me they could not sell kitchen items, which clearly looking at the pictures of the store is a bold face lie. They left a TV console because they were too lazy to load it. I put the items by the road with Free signs and people picked up everything including the couches. Guess my items had value to someone after all. WILL NEVER DONATE TO THEM AGAIN. read more

Rochester, NY - My non-profit cat rescue scheduled a pick up 5 months in advance of all of our left over garage sale stuff for this past Saturday. We confirmed with Amvets 5 days prior that we were still on for pick-up and that I would get a call the evening before to confirm the details along with a call the morning of to go over everything with the driver. We needed to be out of the venue we were renting by 4pm so I arranged pick up for 2pm. The lady who scheduled it said that would not be a problem and everything would work out well. She gave me a list of things you won't accept (which seems crazy that you would be choosey to begin with) and it wasn't a problem. We had nice stuff to give. The night before, I never got a call. I figured that they would call me the morning of since it seemed strange to get a call the evening before and they morning of anyways. It gets to be a little before 2 and I still had not heard anything. I started to panic because we had to be out in a few hours. You guys NEVER SHOWED AND NEVER CALLED. We had to spend more money out of pocket to go rent a uhual since Amvets never showed up. Fortunately, Uhual was incredibly understanding and worked with us at the last minute. The venue also worked with us since they knew we could not control Amvets not showing up. I even called and left a message expressing my concerns and never heard back. Unreal. Amvets, I will never support you guys again. We had to spend money out of our non-profits pocket to rent a uhaul since you chose not to show up to pick up a SCHEDULED donation. I get that you are also a non-profit but, we were counting on you to be where you said you would be. I wont shop at your store and I will not donate to you ever again. What a shame. Goodwill graciously accepted a full 26 foot uhual of awesome furniture and household goods without complaint. read more

I like the layout of this store, it's very open and not jammed full like many mega thrift stores. Prices very good. I didn't see as much selection for clothing as other stores though. Interesting stuff can be found here all the time. It's a nonprofit so their staffing can be somewhat short at times. Be patient if you need help with the big items! The best things I like about the store is the hard goods that are on the shelves to the right when you enter the store. They also get some cool jewelry and electronics. I don't bother much with the clothing. I am average size and weight so I pretty much know it's been picked through! Happy hunting everybody! read more

thrift stores. amirite? to be honest, everything smells like a grandma, and the place looks like some sort of weird warehouse space. the locks on the changing rooms that are always open are broken, so you have to knock and then if you're in there make sure that your feet are visible. clothing is separated by type and size, but the racks are jam-packed, so it takes some real work to find good stuff. that said, I have found spectacular things (after digging patiently) here, and rarely paid over $5. and THAT is what a thrift store really should be based on. read more

This is one of my top favorite thrift stores in Rochester. I think they have the best prices. You gotta be in the mood to dig to be a thrifter but I have found: Banana Republic Shorts, Ann Taylor Loft shorts, Eddie Bauer shorts and linen Loft shorts (I needed summer clothes) earrings, a pair of leather heels that magically fit me like cinderella's slippers, leather oxfords, a blazer, an italian silk scarf and a funky top for 24 bucks. I basically robbed the place. In the winter I also got a killer briefcase and dress pants. This store has a lot of vintage and more of a used feel to it (some goodwills and stores get a lot of overstock from places like walmart or target) but you can find a lot of great things if you are in the mood to look. All of the pieces I have found there are very, very reasonable. I took a friend to get pots and pans and a whole dish set for his studio when he was strapped for cash. I highly recommend this store for people who have young children as well. They have a large baby clothes section. read more

But there were some pretty neat things here a family snatched up a tv stand that I would have definitely taken it. My family and I love thrift stores. Above all this store is great. The prices are alright although do take a look as you pick thing's out especially in the womens, some clothing my have rips/small holes..... I have bought some stuff with holes in them. Also being a bigger women leave you with a very small selection. overall I like amvets. the customer service is excellent! read more

This was once a regular stop of mine to find picture frames and the odd household item. Although I do appreciate that the proceeds fund programs for veterans, the new, aggressive pricing limits my purchases to one or two items.
