I won 2 tickets from Yelp to come to a dance show here on 9 December 2018. The show that I attended…read morewas titled INTERPLAY: An Evening of Ekphrastic Dance. This was not a Yelp event but a SPACES event. I attended on a Friday night with my friend and former roommate. SPACES is a venue located west of downtown Cleveland where works of art are displayed just as you would find in an art gallery but they also have events throughout the year. The show I attended was very different for me and my first time experiencing this type of art form. Some people may find interpretive dance strange but if you come with an open mind then you will enjoy it or at least leave experiencing something different. I will rate my experience 4.5/5. I misread the program pamphlet but I later found out that 2 different artists were performing at the same time so attendees could select who they wanted to watch. I didn't know this at first so I did miss one performance (by an artist named Robert) which is fine. The performances were actually repeated for people who showed up later to the evening (there was a 2 hour window to walk around and watch the performances). It is hard to explain this show but you can take a look at my posted videos for further details. My favourite piece was the woman who performed a movement dance detailing her feelings with the local media. She had newspapers lined up on the floor and at one point started laughing and crying to express her feelings. Many of the other dancers like her had amazing balance, core strength, and flexibility. They were all very talented in their own unique way. Here is the official dance show description - "Six local choreographers converge to create movement poetry in a vivid portrayal of modern art. View original works from diverse perspectives and watch art literally come to life." I recommend visiting SPACES on a weeknight or weekend. It is a fun environment and encourages you to open up your artistic side if you aren't normally inclined to do so. I will definitely have to come back here to explore more of the featured art on the walls. All of the dancers are clearly extremely talented. Some of dancers core strength was amazing. My personal favorite dancer was Robert. His performance was simply beautiful. The facility itself was actually a very great space and it's in a great location in Hingetown which I enjoyed. It's very versatile space and I can see them being able to do plenty of things here. Overall it was a great experience.

Went to Temple Live (Masonic Hall) to see the Devo Concert. The concert was excellent, a complete…read moresellout. Parking was OK, I parked at lot across Chester and didn't have any issues. Getting in took some time, the line for the doors was around the corner and halfway down the street, but once they opened the doors they kept things moving with plenty of people scanning tickets and doing the security check. Inside Temple Live has a certain charm, the lobby and auditorium have plenty of retro touches. I was in the balcony and getting up there and finding the seat was fine, although there are plenty of stairs. Because of the setup, even the seats way up have a good view and are not that far from the stage. Sound was good, loud without being oppressive. The concert itself was wonderful, Devo was very high energy and just blasted through their hits, they sounded very good and really showed how to put on a show. The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit was a mixed bag for me; some really good and some not so much. I…read morewaited for the price to come down and went on a Tuesday afternoon after the cost had come down to $20 plus a $7 fee. Lets get some of the basics out of the way. The exhibit is located on the East Side of Cleveland in a converted warehouse space near to the Shoreway. The entrance to the parking lot is on E. 72nd street, but you drive around the building and enter on the E.70th Street side. Parking is $5 which you pay for inside. Since the day was nice, I parked on E.72nd and walked around the building. Once inside you check-in and then can either enter the exhibit or look around the lobby/gift shop. There are some cool pieces to take pictures with and some things to see. The exhibit itself is a large rectangular room about 60 foot wide by 200 foot long. The tall walls have been covered with screens onto which the exhibit is projected. There are projections on the floor, including circles 6 foot apart to allow for social distancing. There are a decent number of benches and folding chairs. While I was there the room had a nice sized crowd, but not overly crowded. The sound is excellent, although it may be a bit loud for some. The exhibit itself runs on a continuous loop of about 30 minutes. Once inside you are allowed to stay as long as you like. The projections vary slightly depending on which wall you are looking at so finding the place you want to be and what you want to watch can be challenging. A major issue with the space is that there are two rows of columns running down the space; to try to deal with this they have covered them with mirrored panels. Unfortunately this means that your view is constantly broken up and disrupted and takes you out of the exhibit. The projections and music is very well done. Technically this is an excellent piece of interactive art. How you enjoy this will vary greatly. To make the piece interactive they have taken Van Gogh's works and altered them in a number of ways. Most of the projections are smaller details of the larger pieces; there is almost no time given to the full pieces. They have added animation and movement to the art. They have also changed some of the colors and illumination levels to create action. As interactive art it is entertaining and compelling, as an actual exhibition of Van Gogh's art it falls far short. I had downloaded the Android App which had a good deal of background information and explanations. Unfortunately I found the app hard to use, especially the audio functions. I was listening to the podcast designed to synchronize with the exhibit, it cut out about half way through and was impossible to get back working. The gift shop had quite a nice selection of items, although prices were hard to find and seemed a bit expensive. Overall I was OK with the Immersive Van Gogh, partially because I waited until the prices had reduced significantly and I avoided the parking fee. If I had paid about $70-$80 I would have felt ripped off. The exhibit itself was really well done from a technical standpoint, I just felt that it did not do full credit to the Van Gogh's genius. I also went at a time when the exhibit was not overly crowded; during prime times it could be challenging. The best part of Immersive Van Gogh is that it has introduced the artist and great art to a much wider audience. The exhibit really highlights the details, the colors and the brushwork of the art, it unfortunately de-emphasizes the full works and the compositions that are a major part of what makes these masterpieces. Since a single company runs the exhibit, leases the building and does the ticketing it feels like they are trying to ring out excessive money with the ticketing fee and parking fee in addition to the cost of the tickets. How you feel about the Immersive Van Gogh will depend on how you approach the exhibit. If you are looking for a real exhibit of Van Gogh's work this is probably not for you. If you are looking at a fairly unique multi-media presentation based on Van Gogh's works, you will probably enjoy it. I would suggest going through the app to get some nice background information.

The winery is changing the vibe of this neighborhood for the better. Majority of the neighbors love it here and the winery is creating jobs for people in the immediate area, which is needed and wonderful. They source their hybrid vines which are grafted, from Cornell University grapes. Their wines have great names such as Swoon, Sassy, or Crimson! All the wine is cold pressed and made on site. They quark all their wine and make about 5,000 bottles per year. Mansfield Frazier is the owner with his lovely wife Brenda. They personally run the joint and take great care of their costumers and wine. I was here for a 20+ person event with the Cornell Alumni Club and they did a fabulous job accommodating everyone! There is plenty of parking and space to walk around outside. There is a bit of seating inside and very knowledgeable staff around to talk about their products. Their hours of operation vary so you should call the number on the door and the owner could possibly be there in minutes. 216-438-0964 They do not have snacks for sale at the moment, but you are welcome to bring your own to eat inside. FYI - In the future they would love to take down the old abandon building, which was once a church next door and grow the wine making facility with a gift shop, market and better space to host more costumers.
