Amtrak California Zephyr Train #6 arriving at Reno Station last Saturday
    Mychael H.

Amtrak Reno Station is one of the good spot to be railfanning at to see lots of Union Pacific Freight Trains and heritage Units. Also gotta love the Reno Trench how the trains run under the city of Reno Nevada. And this is the station I always wait for Amtrak California Zephyr Train #5 and I get off here from Amtrak California Zephyr #6 here I got my parents living in Reno Sparks. I come here once every month from the Bay Area.

This station was easy to find, and very pretty. The station employees were friendly, for the most part. My only complaint is that the boarding process was a little difficult, since the disabled coach was way down the other end from where the waiting room was. I did have assistance from an employee, but it seems to me the disabled coach should be brought a little closer to the waiting room.

Nice station clean they could remodel the inside take the extra space and turn it into a coffee shop to make extra money and bring more people there but keeping its historic value at the same time.

Did you know that the train station is also a place to learn about some of Reno's history? It's true! There is an entire room that serves as mini- museum with artifacts on display and fascinating facts. Parking is easy; be aware that it is metered. If you're catching a train that you bought tickets for online, don't wait in line at the ticket counter- downstairs (accessable via stairs or elevator) is where the conductor will get you checked in. There are chairs in the waiting room. The platform is well below street level. An interesting building to visit!

A smaller sized station where one needs to take an elevator down to the trains. There is a waiting area on the main floor and platform floor. Air conditioning is not very strong on both floors. There are some vending snack and drink machines but not restaurants or hot food. There is an area that features some historical train artifacts and descriptions.

My friend and I were interested in a trip on the train. I heard that Amtrak went to Old Sacramento from Reno so we booked our trip. Scheduled to leave at 8:30am but didn't end up leaving until 3:30 pm! We were supposed to arrive at 2:00, perfect because we wanted to walk around Old Sac and enjoy some dim sum. Needless to say we arrived in Sacramento around 945 pm!! Barely enough time to check in to our hotel and grab something to eat. On the positive side, it's a beautiful ride, they provided us with beef stew in the dining car because of the delays, the seats are comfortable, the observatory car is fun for a different view and there are restrooms on the lower deck. My advice: be flexible, check the app often, and plan on staying 2 nights in Sacramento so you can enjoy the area. A few hotels are in walking distance from the station which was very handy!! PS we found out why there are delays. Freight trains have priority on the tracks, Amtrak has to wait for them to pass if they are sharing a track

This was a fun experience for my daughter and I. Our first time on a train. The station is easy to find and a little history in the wait area. We just didn't have a clue what to expect or where to go outside. People just waited around. We didn't know where to go or where we could go on the train but got the hang of it some miles down the road.

I made the decision to go over the weekend on Amtrak, and I must say that it was a good choice. Following a busy week of work, we made the decision to travel to the East via Amtrak, departing from Reno. It was late, and we were on the last train out of the station, so some of the employees may have been irritated that we were leaving so late, but overall the station was fairly good. It was good that there was a distinct room for first class passengers, complete with refreshments and food. When traveling between different cities and states, taking an Amtrak train is a reliable and secure option. It is characterized by being a reliable service that is also accurate. I strongly encourage everyone to make use of it. In addition, they have a cafeteria where you can get hot and cold beverages, as well as a variety of sandwich options. The one and only negative of this reputable and attentive firm is that the cost of their tickets to travel is significantly higher than the cost of tickets for intercity buses. One thing to mention, though, is that when we were in the suite, it smelled musty.

The salmon and steak plates were surprisingly great! Friendly and quick service in the dining cabin. Snack bar is pretty good and reasonable. I enjoyed the stops, scenery and the people. There are beautiful families (Manninites?) with their vibrant clothes colors and white head coverings. The interior feels like an older train. There is a community shower and toilet. **Grand Junction Station has a wonderful brewery, FOAM & FOLLY. Rush over there to pick up some cans. Let your conductor know as stop at this station can be short some days.

High class service? Jazz band playing in every train car with speakers interconnected? We came expecting nothing and ended up having an incredible experience with beautiful decorations well suited for a sweet, memorable Christmas train experience. Online reservations were simple, easy to obtain, and a lot more affordable compared to the exorbant Polar Express tickets. We're extremely happy that we chose this over Sacramento's Polar Express. It's obvious that their staff spent a lot of time putting work into the trains inner and outter decor - beautiful and creative! Parents and adults FYI - on your way to your reserved train car, there's a small bar after boarding the train. It's very important to load up on your magic drinks before heading to your seat. (Drinks.. not drink! But drink responsibly, of course.) Parking isn't far and although limited, it shouldn't be a problem with reservations handled appropriately. We sang a few Christmas songs with the elves, threw snowballs at the grinch (best part, IMO), met Santa, and had a little fun at Santa's (little) village after the ride. Every sip of their hot cocoa (included with your tickets) was warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather. Couple of cookies came along with it, perfect for our kids to snack on. Overall, this was an incredible experience for our kids! Service was fantastic, ambiance was very jolly and felt like home, staff members are very friendly, and the experience is fantastic for all occasions - family, friends, and dates! The memories are ever lasting and hopefully it becomes a core memory that lasts a lifetime. Highly recommended to experience, at least once, for your little loved ones. We'll be back next year!

We eventually found our own. Refills of hot water, cream, and drinking water required chasing down staff. After 45 minutes we began asking where the food was, while people in another section of the car had already ordered and eaten their meals. Staff kept saying the food would come "soon." It never did. At 1 hour 45 minutes the staff disappeared, and the train returned to the station at 2 hours. No food and no explanation. I had to insist on speaking with a manager and got a refund. I still don't understand how this could happen.

Choose another option! You only graduate from high school…read moreonce in a lifetime. It is also unbelievably expensive to fund your kids through school but even more so their senior year. My daughter's senior grad trip was Friday the 7th and they were to leave AACT at 1pm and arrive in Universal Studios Hollywood at 9pm and arrive home Saturday the 8th at 1pm leaving City Walk at 4am. This was a 24 hour trip that cost us each individually, nearly $400 for tickets, food and transportation. We paid for only the grad night experience in Universal which, had they arrived on time, would have been a total of five hours. My daughter was on the unfortunate bus that kept overheating on what was supposed to be a 7 1/2 hour drive. That means that they were without air conditioning on a bus full of sweaty, tired teenagers who quite literally came directlt from finishing their finals to take this trip. Maintenance on your vehicles is important. How on earth does a chartered bus overheat that much? To say my own daughter was miserable, is an understatement. Further, they were spread across multiple busses and the person with their tickets was on the bus that apparently was too cool for an accurate GPS system. There is no excuse for not utilizing WAZE while driving in California but to take the wrong turns before even leaving Nevada? How does that even happen in the age of technology? Several students who are already a half hour late for a five hour experience, were left waiting outside the park that they paid for another full hour until their entire class arrived. If nothing else, stay together when driving! By the time they got inside the park, most of the rides that were supposed to be open for them were closed. They got 3.5 hours of a 5 hour ticket which we paid for. This wasn't an act of God but incompetency in maintenence, driving and then further, a policy which required 8 hours between the return trip and delayed arrival, that our kids wait inside a closed movie theater for five hours (instead of the original two) without their water bottles, medications, phone chargers, pillows, blankets or anything that would make them remotely comfortable or be able to communicate with parents who had almost no idea what was going on. This also meant that on the final week of graduations, plannedpartied, dinners etc that my exhausted, sweaty teenager arrived home at 5pm with only a half hour to get ready for her best friend's graduation dinner, which she was almost too tired to stay awake through. It is my understanding that the organizers are seeking restitution which in turn provides us, the paying customers, restitution as well. When asked if she had fun, my daughter's response was an emphatic no. This was not the final experience she was supposed to have with her high school and her classmates. Amador Lines is a large part of ruining this for her, a moment she will never have again. If you are looking for transportation, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. A charter bus should not have the same or actually worse capabilities, then a greyhound. In fact, that might have even been better. Amador, fix your busses and get GPS.
