11/24/25- Picked up my son yesterday.. This was the second time he took the train from Sacramento. First time I didn't park and just picked him up.. This time he suggested we should check out the station as our first time trip is in a few weeks. Train was exactly on time.. Thank you Amtrak for delivering my son safe and sound..! Amtrak Reno Station is one of the good spot to be railfanning at to see lots of Union Pacific Freight Trains and heritage Units. Also gotta love the Reno Trench how the trains run under the city of Reno Nevada. And this is the station I always wait for Amtrak California Zephyr Train #5 and I get off here from Amtrak California Zephyr #6 here I got my parents living in Reno Sparks. Nov 2025 - Amtrak in Reno was accommodating and extremely helpful unlike the Amtrak in Sacramento. I recommend this Amtrak station. On a recent trip from Reno to Sacramento, the counter attendant ensured I had all our luggage checked in as I was traveling with my elderly mother. She was kind and attentive. The train station is walking distance (a little walk but doable) to the casinos Silver Legacy, El Dorado and CircusCircus. There was a gentleman on the inside, asking if anyone needed a taxi as a train arrived At the Reno train station after check-in, you have to take the stairs/elevator (only one) down to the lower level floor to catch the train. read more

This station was easy to find, and very pretty. The station employees were friendly, for the most part. My only complaint is that the boarding process was a little difficult, since the disabled coach was way down the other end from where the waiting room was. I did have assistance from an employee, but it seems to me the disabled coach should be brought a little closer to the waiting room. read more

She was fine with that but the building itself inside was clean and easy access and also the gals at the front desk we're very friendly read more

Did you know that the train station is also a place to learn about some of Reno's history? It's true! There is an entire room that serves as mini- museum with artifacts on display and fascinating facts. Parking is easy; be aware that it is metered. If you're catching a train that you bought tickets for online, don't wait in line at the ticket counter- downstairs (accessable via stairs or elevator) is where the conductor will get you checked in. There are chairs in the waiting room. The platform is well below street level. An interesting building to visit! read more

A smaller sized station where one needs to take an elevator down to the trains. There is a waiting area on the main floor and platform floor. Air conditioning is not very strong on both floors. There are some vending snack and drink machines but not restaurants or hot food. There is an area that features some historical train artifacts and descriptions. read more

My friend and I were interested in a trip on the train. I heard that Amtrak went to Old Sacramento from Reno so we booked our trip. Scheduled to leave at 8:30am but didn't end up leaving until 3:30 pm! We were supposed to arrive at 2:00, perfect because we wanted to walk around Old Sac and enjoy some dim sum. Needless to say we arrived in Sacramento around 945 pm!! Barely enough time to check in to our hotel and grab something to eat. On the positive side, it's a beautiful ride, they provided us with beef stew in the dining car because of the delays, the seats are comfortable, the observatory car is fun for a different view and there are restrooms on the lower deck. My advice: be flexible, check the app often, and plan on staying 2 nights in Sacramento so you can enjoy the area. A few hotels are in walking distance from the station which was very handy!! PS we found out why there are delays. Freight trains have priority on the tracks, Amtrak has to wait for them to pass if they are sharing a track read more

This was a fun experience for my daughter and I. Our first time on a train. The station is easy to find and a little history in the wait area. We just didn't have a clue what to expect or where to go outside. People just waited around. We didn't know where to go or where we could go on the train but got the hang of it some miles down the road. read more

Took the train to Truckee CA. Then back to Reno NV. Valentines Day weekend. It took about 2 hours each way and had beautiful scenery along the way. Cost very little in comparison to driving and was a lot of fun. The website says no alcohol on board so we tried to be very discrete with our bloody Mary's and mimosas. They didn't even care. While there we had lunch at a great little Mexican place and toured the museum. The curator was absolutely fabulous. It was his day off and normally the museum is closed in the winter but when we called and told him we were a group of about 15 he accommodated us. The museum was very interesting. We shopped and made a day of it without missing our train departure time. The only negative was the trim from Reno to Truckee was about 2 hrs late but we were prepared and had a great time. read more

I made the decision to go over the weekend on Amtrak, and I must say that it was a good choice. Following a busy week of work, we made the decision to travel to the East via Amtrak, departing from Reno. It was late, and we were on the last train out of the station, so some of the employees may have been irritated that we were leaving so late, but overall the station was fairly good. It was good that there was a distinct room for first class passengers, complete with refreshments and food. When traveling between different cities and states, taking an Amtrak train is a reliable and secure option. It is characterized by being a reliable service that is also accurate. I strongly encourage everyone to make use of it. In addition, they have a cafeteria where you can get hot and cold beverages, as well as a variety of sandwich options. The one and only negative of this reputable and attentive firm is that the cost of their tickets to travel is significantly higher than the cost of tickets for intercity buses. One thing to mention, though, is that when we were in the suite, it smelled musty. read more

Literally 5 minutes away from Reno the train stops in sparks and just sits there. Still here, it's been over an hour. No announcement on the PA, my friend who is picking me up, who is also a disabled veteran has been waiting in Reno since 9:15 am. It is now almost 11. How does a train go from being announced online as an hour early end up turning into well over 2 hours late, 5 minutes from Reno? This is ridiculous. read more

Easy to access. Short walk from downtown hotels. Restrooms are upstairs, platform is downstairs. There is an elevator but only one. If you take the stairs be prepared that there are 4 flights. Nice thing is that the station is right by the track. Over all good experience and we will be back. The drinking fountain and wall describing it was kind of neat. read more

Given the number of passengers who use this station, based at least on the embarking and disembarking from the California Zephyr, it feels like the station isn't quite large enough to accommodate everyone inside. The tracks are at a lower level than the entrance, and from inside the train, it was difficult to tell if we had actually pulled into the station or not at first. But the station is functional, it's clean, and the elevator is quite large. The area outside of the station entrance is large and convenient for passenger pick-ups and drop-offs. read more

Took the Reno to Martinez Amtrak on 12/5/22, Train #5. Our conductor, Tanika gave us the best treatment a conductor could give. She was great and worked out our seating arrangement. She did it with a smile and a full load of people with lots of issues. I've been on Amtrak many times before, but this trip Tanika made it special. Going to Reno to see the Sierras covered with snow. Three hour delay getting in the train. No reason given. Wasting time buying lunch at the Antrak station. Stayed overnight. Checked the status of the 8:33 train leaving to go back to Sacramento. Says on time at 7;45. Walked to train station to find A SEVEN HOUR DELAY! Checked out of our comfy hotel and now what the heck do you do in Reno past a breakfast and I'm tired of the smokey noisy casino. Tried to call Antrak. No answer. Multiple times no answer. Waited on hold 93 minutes and they said call back tomorrow. What? Don't know why there's such a delay. Google search brings up NOTHING. THEY STINK. And speaking of stink, how awful are the restaurants on tge trains? The smells are atrocious. Can someone clean them or just throw bleach in the toilets every few hours! What an embarrassment fir the country. read more
