    Business Class Car

I commute by train often for work. It's a convenient way to avoid the hassle of traffic, take in the beautiful views of the ocean and mountains or I can choose to get some work done or take a nap. Amtrak is a great alternative to travel for business or leisure.

The Santa Ana Amtrak Depot is one of the five train depots available in Orange County to board the Pacific Surfliner to Union Station for travel up the California Coastline. Coach and Business class seating is available on both trains. Seats in business offer more leg room and wider seating along with complimentary bottled water, coffee and a few packaged snacks. Both business and coach have outlets to power electronics. Union Station is the transfer point to the Coast Starlight. If you need to use the restroom and grab a snack both are available in the main staton area. It's worth the walk to stretch your legs and get a view of the beautiful architecture in this historical building. Starbucks, pizza and a small convenience store anchor the depot. Small booths selling souvenirs and magazines near the reserved seating area are open later in the day. Tips: For an ocean view from your seat sit on the left hand side of the train. Outside food is allowed. The cafe has a decent selection but not many healthy options. Use the Amtrak app to purchase your tickets and earn loyalty points and train updates. Arrive on time! The trains are very prompt. Enjoy the beautiful views from the view car. Cons: The WiFi is spotty and slow.

This was a very fun way to travel from Orange County to the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego for my birthday weekend. Not much difference between coach and business class on such a short trip but we got a free drink and snack. On Del Mar race days, it get crowded coming out of Irvine so you best prepare for the onslaught of loud partiers. Kind of like a Friday afternoon flight to Vegas. We got on in Santa Ana and the trip was about 2 hours. Nice coastal views on the Coaster. About $80 for two round trip business class seats. Had a fun afternoon of lunch and drinking in Gaslamp before a Padres game, night in a hotel, brunch and train ride home Sunday. Free parking in Santa Ana, clean train, kind employees and the station was super antique and spotless.

    Pretty day in California

I once went here on a day trip using the Metrolink train and then used the bus route 553 (which is apparently on weekdays) to go to Disney. I find that the route was fine although there were a lot more stops to the park, and it drops you off 3 blocks away. On a weekend on Sunday, I used the ART route bus 15. I liked this route because it was only 3-4 stops and you're directly dropped off at Disneyland's bus center so it's a shorter walk to the park. I only wish the bus came at its scheduled times or were properly updated on the live route site, so you're stuck waiting longer than expected and you're unsure of when the bus will exactly come. - free parking at the lot, gates open automatically , unless event is happening across the street at Honda center - prepay adult day passes ($6 all day) online and show email to bus driver - very clean and impressively aesthetic transit center, usually empty

Caught the Amtrak Surfliner from Santa Ana to Old Town San Diego. While the ride was great, this train station was a bit of an adventure. Signage is not really clear about where to go, especially if you've never been here before. Restrooms were all closed. Could not find any guard or employee to answer any questions. You have to walk outside to see the screen that shows you train times and track number, but of course, that is after you've meandered around the actual station looking for information. Obviously this is a heavily traveled line (for both Metrolink and Amtrak), so you would think that there would at least be someONE there to assist travelers. Truly, it looks deserted when you enter, almost as if you've stepped back in time to see what an old train station looks like. Disappointed, and as a new traveler that has never used this station before, I felt very lost and a little creeped out.

The fountain there still looks beautiful. I heard that security is getting really tough here, and not nice. From what I hear this is because of people needing shelter, and electricity sources are frequent in this particular location. 30 years ago, I recall actually someone having their honeymoon or wedding pictures here ! It's still a beautiful façade. it needs a lot of TLC, money going into it to bring it into its glory again. Its present situation is disheartening. I'll check in a few months to let you know my observations, & reconstruction progress.

We had plenty of leg room, and it was a smooth ride. The train crew were polite, and super friendly. Making it a much more enjoyable experience. Not to mention the snacks they offer. That's always a plus. My only complaint and reason for 4 stars is the un-manned information booth at the Fullerton station, where our day started. We had a couple of questions because we needed assistance on where we had to board. There were no employees in sight. We found ourselves having to ask other riders if we were at the right location. The PA system was very hard to hear due to heavy static, and in Area 1, the Business section, messages broadcast to other parts of the loading platforms were nonexistent. Customers waiting to board tried to help each other. Despite these two issues, I would definitely use this station again.
