LA finally joins the likes of NYC, London etc. The new D line extension to the edge of Beverly Hills is in my opinion a game changer for LA. The line runs underground from Union Station to Wilshire /La Cienega. Next year to Rodeo Drive and Century City and in 2028 to Westwood/UCLA. The stations are beautiful with stunning art work. read more

5 stars: today I decided to take a train from my area about 30 miles away because I didn't wanna drive and put miles on my car! It was easy to get on, get off, and I didn't pay! No one came to check payment! Honestly, it took an hour to go to where I was going but it went by so fast! 4 stars: they had people selling weed and speakers on the train and ppl were buying! Hahaha 3 stars: anyone can get on and off! And I mean anyone!!! 2 stars: the signs make sense but can be even more understandable also they need to clean the seats and floors everyday! 1 star: the first section on the train smelled like shit! So someone must had took a shit on there and they didn't clean it up! So I did move my seat quickly! read more

Metro D Line - Public Transportation Near Me - Los Angeles, California

6/25/2025 - Taking the D Line to L.A. Union Station. Thank LAPD for patrolling the metro stations to make every rider worry free. Remember the lower floor is towards North Hollywood direction, and the upper floor is for the Union Station direction. Wish more signs will be printed on both floors at the platform like Japan or China's Metro Platforms. read more

The Metro D-line still has not reached Miracle Mile. It will be 10 years since my first review. Metro has been making terrible decisions for more than a decade. This particular line as supposed to have extended out to Santa Monica by 2016 in 2012. Ten years on, not one new station on this major thorough fare has been completed. This line remains a great option for traveling between Koreatown and downtown Los Angeles or Union Station. New trains have been added. There's more space to travel with bike, strollers, luggage and such other items. There are charging ports. They are still quite clean. read more

"Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it!" The Metro D Line also known as the Metro Purple Line is a staple in Los Angeles and the Greater Downtown LA area. It's currently being expanded to included more stops and connections from Union Station to Westwood, covering over 9 miles worth of travel and seven new stations!! I typically transfer over to the Metro D from the Metro B aka Red Line when traveling to and from my home in the San Fernando Valley. When hanging out in city must like Koreatown you can exit on one platform and connect with it on others. Metro is doing what it can to improve as well as clean up and make the metro system better as well as safer, but we also have to be apart of that growth. Fares are reasonable for daily, one way and monthly rates. You can purchase physical cards with seasonal and year around designs or use the TAP app and store digital card you can access with your smartphone. Tap, board and go... "I'm waking up on Sunset Boulevard. Maxing out all my credit cards. Living my own L.A. story. Living it up 'til the morning. I fell in love, the streets got a glow. The city of angels is calling me home" - LA story by Sammy Adams and Mike Posner. "baaaaaaaaaap" - LA Subway horn. If you are not in such a hurry the Purple line is your subway train to ride. It's not as good as the BART in the SF Bay Area but still gets the job done if you trying to go somewhere in LA. I thought I tried it out after Coachella and it's still catching on. Being a heavy user of public transport, this system is okay in terms of length and availability but is not as fast as I imagined. Drawback: Please be aware of your surroundings because it can be a tough place. This subway system looks like something that is stuck in the 90s read more

I highly regret taking the Metro Purple Line. Apparently construction/route work is being done, however, the track location, direction and specific level of the Purple Line train is entirely unpredictable. Who ever had a great idea to do a PA system should be fired. The information is shouted in English and Spanish however the majority of travelers I saw on the Metro spoke neither of those 2 languages. I *wish* LA would have spent its money on making a "real" transit system. The Purple Line also DOES NOT come as scheduled, it comes more like every 45 min. to an hour and a half. It's not safe to ride alone late at night. Unless you look like a gangster or homeless person (the latter I was able to pull off, thanks to my boyfriend's over-sized sweatshirt). I also do not understand the raving reviews. What I would Love to see on the Purple and all Metro lines: -Less homeless people, more mental health service adverts -Indications of where you are traveling, point by point in each cable car. Korea has something similar to this and it does not cost as much as it does in LA to ride a cable car. -Written notifications on the inside of each cab AND ON THE OUTSIDE stating the train AND destination or route. -Stop the PA system. Doesn't help anybody, especially if you are lost. -Multilingual notifications of appropriate languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Quechua, Taiwanese, Hmong, Khmer, Arabic, Farsi, and Hebrew). -Public health adverts read more

Metro D Line - The Purple Line (in purple, HAHA) - Public Transportation Near Me - Los Angeles, California

The idealistic poster says "we refuse to be labeled a car culture. So far my purported 12 minute trip to Union Station has featured on delay at the station for no reason, another delay when transit cops tried to remove a vagrant-type guy and a third en route related to signal issues. I'm a longtime transit advocate and maybe the biggest LA transit fan in all of New Jersey but it would be nice if Metro seemed like it was even trying. read more

This is my Metro stop! I live about a 10-minute walk away and come here daily to get to work in Downtown LA. This seems like one of the newer and cleaner Metro stations. It's one of the only ones that doesn't smell like piss, which is always a plus. The Red Line and Purple Line stop here, one upstairs and one downstairs. The trains come by pretty frequently, and it's in a clean, safe location. You can get pizza slices or bacon-wrapped hot dogs right outside the turnstiles. You can also see the awesome, old man who has a sandwich board cross with words about Jesus on it, and a bullhorn, yelling at people in Korean. I love this town. Anyway, this is a clean, efficient Metro stop. I'm looking forward to when it extends further down Wilshire and can be even more useful, but we're lucky to have it. read more

Now that the turnstiles have been locked and the undesired elements have mostly ceased to exist underground, what has changed? Not much. At a public event not too long ago, a Metro representative told me that the trains are regularly powerwashed. Could have fooled me. The carriages often get hot and smelly with occasional scents of stale urine. The same goes for some of the platforms. Newcomers are still confused between the red and purple lines because the MTA still hasn't gotten around to properly marking the platforms and installing much clearer signage on the carriage exteriors. Communication is still lacking, especially after a recent incident at Pershing Square. Yup, you're just going to have to accept the system for what it is... read more

Metro D Line - People behaving badly. - Public Transportation Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Extremely unsafe and unreliable. Security focuses on ticket collections at the stalls and not patrolling the station platforms where the issues are (homelessness, riding the cars, folks with mental/drug health issues, theft). I would strongly NOT recommend riding the line (now called D line to add to confusion). Buses 20/720 safer due to staff presence. Speaking as a daily commuter. Metro can do better, and it should, as we have pumped billions into a dysfunctional, inefficient and disconnected system that provides little service to the community of LA. read more

I'm just one block away from the Wilshire/Normandy stop. Given that this stop is just right down my street, hubby and I decided to commute to Union Station. Our experience was awesome! It was overall cheap and I'm just totally dumbfounded as to why I have not considered riding the metro a lot sooner given that the purple line services the K-Town/downtown corridor! I will definitely be using this again! I can go to little Tokyo, Union Station without having to drive or worry about stupid parking! Wow! I'm going to have to find me a job in downtown LA!! I'm entirely sold! Also, it is relatively safe, but as in any urban cities, vigilance is a must! As to those complainers, get a damn life! I grew up in Paris where "piss and foul smells" are part of the scenery. You are obviously too damn sheltered. It must be exceedingly taxing to be you--stuck in traffic with your narrowly constructed perception of life (yikes). read more

Love the Purple Line. I lived in LA for a number of years - hated the traffic - and so eventually located myself in Koreatown so as to live right at a great Metro intersection. I LOVE Metro. Its inexpensive; its reliable; I have (almost) always felt safe. Best of all - it will take you to all the coolest neighborhoods in LA (if one line doesn't go there, it intersects with another that does - or will soon). For now, if you can get on a train, you can get to Downtown LA, MacArthur Park, Koreatown, East Hollywood, Hollywood, Studio City, North Hollywood, Culver City, USC, Long Beach, South LA, Pasadena, Highland Park, Asuza, East LA, the South Bay, Norwalk, etc. And soon - Santa Monica, West LA, LAX, the Miracle Mile, Westwood, and Inglewood. LA has the best best walking/biking weather in the USA - take advantage of that by using Metro - plus, you get to skip GAS PRICES, PARKING FEES, and TRAFFIC. read more

The Metro Red Line's stubby, underachieving little cousin. It wouldn't exist if not for three stations: Wilshire/Vermont, Normandie, and Western. These are marginally useful as of early 2011 (a meal in Koreatown or a concert at the Wiltern are highlights). If they get this line extended to Santa Monica along Wilshire, I'll pee myself (I mean that literally. I'll probably be old and incontinent by the time it's completed). Never too crowded. read more

Enjoy the crazies. It was about 9PM when I hopped aboard at Wilshire/Western. The train was at about 10% capacity. I plug in my earbuds, turn on my Kindle, and start reading. About a minute in, I noticed there was this haggard, overweight homeless woman who was standing next to the subway car door, about 10 feet away, staring at me. She was muttering to herself and had a look of pure evil in her eyes. So all the way from Western/Wilshire to Union Station, I felt this strange and ominous tension, as if something terrible was about to happen. Needless to say, it was wonderful. And then, we arrive at our destination. As I hurry past the crazy lady out onto the train platform, I hear her spit, and moments later, I feel her warm saliva spraying all over my arm. "That's what you get!" she yells, with a truly witch-like voice. Indeed. Indeed it is. read more

I use to ride the Purple line daily for work. I will gladly go back once they have more of an extension down Wilshire. Right now it doesn't make sense to get off the Rapid bus to ride the Purple line for one stop even though the train is more comfortable and not as crowded during rush hour as the bus is. Sure the train could be cleaner, but I've never had a problem with it. I'm glad I haven't encountered the bodily fluids some of the other yelpers seem to see. I did get approached a few times from people who want food or money but for the most part you get left alone especially with you earbuds in. I have noticed more police checking for ticket stubs. I never try to skip fare and buy a monthly pass so it amuses me more than anything seeing the people caught and written up. Pay your fees so they can clean up the train and etc! Overall being from a smaller town with no public transportation, I can definitely appreciate Los Angele's Metro lines! read more

Clean, cheap, safe, and gets me where I want to go without having to deal with traffic. People who say the subway sucks have never been on the subway. I hear it time and time again from people. Them: "You're gonna take the metro? It sucks man. Really unsafe and filthy." Me: "Really? Which line do you take?" Them-Looking down and shuffling their feet: "Um, well, I live on the west side and there's no metro there but I've heard about it." Me-Under my breathe: "You're a douche." The only thing wrong with the metro is that is doesn't run 24 hours! read more

The only good thing about the purple line is that I can get to downtown in no time and I don't have to fight with the crazy la drivers. It's cheap and saves me alot of time BUT-it smells, it's dirty, theres lots of homeless people begging, and a lot of crazy people (most likely on drugs) read more

Wow. How is the Purple line so dirty? On the plus side, this kicks you off in K-Town at Wilshire and Western. A nice way to get from/out there if you get catch a Metro stop on the other end. read more

Gets me to/from Union Station and comes pretty frequently. Plus, it moves pretty quickly in general, though it often stalls for minutes right before Union Station. This wouldn't be bad, except the trains can get packed, HOT, and SMELLY -- not just in the train but also at the stations. Timing/schedule could be better. I always get frustrated, because there is a Purple line train that always leaves just as the Gold Line people have a chance to reach it in the morning, and then the next train (red or purple) takes 10 min. I've caught this one a few times, and it's pretty empty. If it would just wait 1 minute more, it could catch those people and make the red line after it a lot less packed. read more

The purple line is pretty fast due to the fact that it ends in Koreatown (Wilshire-Western) and begins in downtown Los Angeles (Union Station). I've taken the rail from 7th & Metro (from the Expo Line - Culver City). From there it takes 15 minutes. I'm glad it's getting expanded to Miracle Mile (Wilshire-Hauser) which is close to the Grove. I cannot wait! read more

The trains are getting cleaner. MTA needs to get their shit together however and mark the trains with the color RED or PURPLE. Sure, there are signs on each car telling you the final destination, but that would be a nice touch. Or even having color coded platforms. The on-board PA system sucks though. The speakers have no bass, and sometimes hurt your ears. And the prerecorded voice reminds me of a Disneyland ride. read more

I've been taking this route for several years....times are inconsistent and LA Sheriff deputies are always hassling patrons instead of keeping the subways safe. Watch your back in the evenings, its a bit sketch though always good for some entertainment. Cheers. read more

My only complaint is that the first time around it's hard to notice that you have to take the Purple Line to Koreatown from the same spot you take the Red Line to North Hollywood. Well, I know that sounds confusing but after the first time you will see what is going on here. This line is convenient for me when I want to get to Koreatown and this is one of my favorite parts of Los Angeles. I have never been bothered by any of the myriad weirdos on any Metro line so I won't say much about this lame aspect of Metro travel. Yes, seats can be dirty ....but get a clue..... all you need to do is wash your clothes regularly as well as your hands! read more

Think there will be helpful Metro employees around if you need them? Nah. The PA system is unintelligible most of the time. And if the train breaks down - no refund on your TAP. You do get a nice derelict smell in the cars though. Take Uber instead. read more

sometimes i take this train home from work (wilshire and western), to westlake McArthur Park station. Its clean, quiet, and fairly fast. the only thing that sucks is that you cant buy paper tickets anymore. You actually need a TapCard everytime. Sucks!!!!!!!!!! read more

Thank you Metro for running my plans for tonight. Not only the train was 10 minutes late but it took long time to leave. When it finally looks like everything is in order it stops in the middle of nothing for 5 more minutes... after 15 minutes we finally got to normandie... guess what we stop again. Well long story short, it took me 35 minutes to go from wilshier to Vermont... the worst part is that apparently this train is returning to wilshiere so I had been for another 25 minutes guess who is also late??? read more

I took this train from the blue line to union station. It was the shortest train ride of the day but yet seems to be the busiest trains around. These trains seem to be wider and a little more comfortable than the other trains in the system (blue, green, gold). These trains don't seem to have the problems the other trains seem to have. I do like this train because it is walking distance to Phillippe's French dips! read more

We took our first Metro line last weekend and found it a great way to get around L.A.. One suggestion: First-timers to Union Station will see NO SIGNS for the PURPLE Line. As crazy as it sounds, you need to follow signs for the RED line for a while. Eventually, when you're almost at the train tracks, you'll see signs for the PURPLE line. They somehow assume you know that red and purple lines run together. Duh! Go figure! read more
