We reserved online, and chose a "hookup" site that (upon arrival) was barely large enough for a camper van - much less our 25' RV and similar length tow vehicle. Luckily, the nice couple who run the office were able to upgrade us to a larger site with full hookups. Thank goodness as we would have been without a place to stay overnight! This is not really a campground as much as it is an RV park with a lot of fulltimers. That being said, the place is relatively clean and pretty quiet. Sometimes these types of parks can be a little sketchy, but this one was fine and fit our needs as a waypoint. We also got to visit the nearby Mt. St. Helens Visitors Center as well as grab a couple of beers down the road in downtown Castle Rock. If you're looking for a camping-style experience, this probably isn't the right place. But if you need a quick place to stop not far from the freeway, it was perfectly fine and felt safe.

Usual displays and short film. A wetlands boardwalk hike of under 1 mile just outside the building. All this is in the boundaries of Seaquest State Park. And yes, there is a nice view of Mt. St. Helens, though it's approximately 40 miles away (as the crow flies). Admission to the center is $5/each. Not sure how this fee works with the WA State Park fee for Seaquest State Park.

There's wood paneling which helps you feel immersed into nature. There's an informational desk about the area, helpful for visitors newish to the area or those with questions. The gift shop is also accessible with the usual offerings of post cards, tchotchkes, and such. Do note that the restrooms are accessible outdoors at the side of the building. There's a pay area part of the center which is $5/18+, $2.50/7-17, free for 6 years old or younger, and family $15 for 2 adults and children 7-17 years old. They also honor veteran's disabled pass, WA state disabled pass, and senior limited income pass. It's definitely worth the admission, since there's a lot of exhibits explaining the geology of the area, the flora and fauna, the native peoples, and the later commercial and recreational uses of the area. There's even a place where you can walk into a huge mock up of Mt St Helens! Very fun. They have a short film playing about the eruption too. I didn't get to explore much outside as it was super rainy, but I saw a boardwalk trail out in the back. I did not see Mt St Helens due to the weather, but I'll be back when the weather is nicer!

Every interaction we had with the folks at the front desk was a positive one. The lady that checked us in gave us the rundown on everything about the hotel (amenities), and she gave plenty of recommendations for us while we were in the area. The ladies that checked us out were also very helpful especially in that they let us cancel the last 2 nights without and fees or hassles. This hotel is rather old and outdated. My room didn't have the best scent, there wasn't any body wash in the bathroom, and the key cards could easily become demagnetized. Some tips: Take advantage of the complementary breakfast. It starts around 6am and lasts a few hours. And remember to bring body wash Again, for what it is, it's not a bad budget hotel. It's just outdated. We like to travel with our dogs so I always look for places that allow pets. The Lewis River Inn…read moredoesn't just allow pets, they welcome them. There was a water and food dish in the bathroom area. This came as a very pleasant surprise. We always travel with our own but it is great to know that if we had forgotten, they had us covered. The recliner also had a seat cover just like we have at home to protect it from dog hair. Not all rooms are pet friendly so keep that in mind. I would have loved to have had a river view but bringing my dogs was more important. I am a birder and enjoyed sitting on the guest patio anytime I could to watch the birds at the feeder, in the flower bed, in the trees, or even in the river. I recorded 13 species of birds in under 30 minutes while just sitting in one spot. The rooms are big and clean. We had a 2 queen pet friendly room because our 14yo son was with us as well. The breakfast is very nice. They have a waffle maker, oatmeal, fruit, pastries, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, etc...

Sandy is a patient and motivating yoga instructor if you would like to take lessons but even if you just need to rest and recover from the frantic pace of modern life, I cannot think of a better place to visit.
