Lots of history has run thru here. Great old school waiting area that harkens back to more simple times. The station is in great condition too. Thank God vagrants have not taken over. The train was predictably late (Amtrak!) but no one seemed to mind. A fun way to travel when you don't need to drive.

Inside the station, the interior was stunning, with artifacts on the high ceiling, marble walls and lots of space for passengers to sit. There was a small cafe and gift shop in the station. We had couple of luggages that the staff carried from the train to the baggage pick up. We had them handed over to us within five minutes. Once we stepped outside, the historical building looked old and had signs of aging. It also had a huge clock tower The waiting area was also little shady. But we debarked and left the station without any issues.

I…read morecame to buy tickets for my family, and the agent messed up everything possible. ​He refused to apply the 15% Student Discount (Code V814) for my 22-year-old daughter, even though I explicitly told him she is a student. ​He put the Senior discount on ME (I'm in my 40s!) instead of my mother, who is actually a senior. ​When I pointed out these errors right at the counter, he dismissively said, "It's not a problem," and refused to reprint the tickets. ​It IS a problem! Now I have tickets that don't match our IDs, and I'm at risk of being fined by the conductor because of HIS laziness. This is unprofessional and looks like a scam to avoid applying proper discounts. I will be filing a formal complaint. Fix your staff!

I highly recommend this for anyone with little ones, but honestly there were more parties of older folks, including seniors who were taking this and all seemed to enjoy it. They give out a hot chocolate and a seasonal cookie to all on the train so I found having a table seat to be very helpful, but to save money you can sit on one of the cars without tables. There are also dates when they're not as busy that will save you some cash. Near the end of the ride (~1.25 hrs) Santa and his elves came on board the train and interacted with everyone, delighting the children in particular. They have an on-board photographer and will email you pictures you can purchase if you desire. Highly, highly, highly recommend this at Christmas time .

Not real convenient to I-5 but I guess that's where the rail line is so.... There is a city bus stop here with two buses that will take you downtown (for free!). They run every half hour or so which is very convenient. Amtrak, like most USA rail systems, rarely runs on time so if you're headed to Seattle or Portland allow plenty of time for delays. Doesn't take much to throw these trains seriously off schedule.

It's even more user-friendly now than it was back then, and the "you're fully paid for the day after 2 rides" option is great. This station looks like it's ready for a little bit of a makeover. There isn't a lot of information readily available, which would be a big help for first time-users, but if you know you're coming here, you can get all that online. There's only one MAX card machine here, but perhaps you only need one given how easy it can be to pay using a smartphone app or a credit card with a tap option. It would also be nice to know how many minutes the current train will be there before departing by a sign somewhere, but navigation services on apps can also give you that information.

Tickets were sold online and that process was easy. The gravel parking lot is across the street but was filled with lots of big puddles due to the rain making parking a little challenging. The gift shop where you check in is small but has lots of fun train-related books and toys. The gentlemen at the counter were very nice and friendly and the staff running the train operations were all very welcoming and helpful. Now this is probably my fault for not reading everything but I did not realize the train carts were open air. As you can imagine the rain makes it a very wet experience. However! We were able to find seats in the covered caboose so that was such a nice option to have especially with a newborn on board with us. The ride itself was smooth and scenic. The kids loved the constant choo choo noises and the 20-minute stop at the Yacolt Creek Falls. The steps were a little steep especially wet and sleek with the rain but it was very pretty. Overall I would definitely recommend this as a fun experience for the family but I think we would have enjoyed it more in the summertime.
