If I could give them negative stars I would.
I have Amtech through my apartment complex, I assume so they can advertise internet as a package with rent while still profiting. Before I get into it, I implore you, if you're moving into an apartment complex ask what the ISP is, if it is Amtech DO NOT MOVE IN. If you need the internet for work, or for Reddit, do not move in. Amtech exists and is terrible because that apartment complex will refuse to hold them accountable because they were just the cheapest option, and they can say it is not their problem. With no accountability everything I'm about to go into will happen. This review won't improve their service, because nothing will, but hopefully I catch at least one person before they get stuck with this for a year.
I week before I moved in, I called to create an account to upgrade from the base 5UP/5DOWN. Their technician informed me it would be done by the time I moved in the end of the next week. I moved in, and was still getting 5UP/5DOWN. I called back and my account did not exist on file, so I had to restart the process because the technician I spoke with the last week did not actually input anything into the system. Was told this would be escalated immediately.
Waited a day, called back for a third time, was told the change was made, but was still getting 5UP/5DOWN. They scheduled a technician to come out, who did, this contractor has been the only positive. He came in, plugged his laptop into the wall, and we were getting the speeds we had requested, great! He left, we plugged our router back in, same issue. We determined this was an issue behind the wall because any laptop/workstation device plugged in worked fine, but any router we plugged in did not work.
Here's where the fun began. My roommate and I over SIX different phone calls "opened" and "escalated" tickets because of this, and every single technician told us because we already had a technician on-site the issue was resolved and there was no possible way there could be any issue. The ONLY reason I got this resolved was because the contractor had to call to get let into the building, so I was able to call him directly and talk to him about it. We decided the only way to get them to listen was to say our internet was hard down, which I did, and after imploring that I was unable to access internet while working from home in the medical field during a pandemic, that I would be receiving a call in 24 hours. 24 hours later I finally got a call back, and the contractor came out, and after he escalated three times and spent an hour convincing three of his coworkers they have to do their job and there is a problem, someone finally fixed the problem. We now have 70UP/70DOWN about 50% of the time while paying for 100UP/100DOWN.
On top of all of this, the first three months we did not receive a bill either in the mail or electronically. I called multiple times, they told me I owed money, and sent that to me via email, but I never received it. We verified my email address, they offered paying over the phone, I refused given how unreliable they are, and I would also like to see my bill before I pay it. Months pass, they "upgrade" their billing system, I finally get a bill. The bill includes late payments for the months I never received a bill previously for, those same months I called myself and asked for a bill. Same dance here, we're on call number FOUR, to try to resolve the billing issue. After call number three of no support I decided screw it, I'll just pay the late fees, but the billing portal doesn't work and I cannot pay. They are now threatening to cancel my account, while simultaneously not responding to any support requests, while also literally being so broken I can't even give them my money when I try.
Do not move anywhere AmTech is the ISP, I don't care if you have a view of your favorite cities skyline from the place. Don't live there, if the people you're signing a lease with are willing to cheap out this much on the ISP, they are going to cheap out with everything else too. read more
