I'm super discerning on my hollandaise sauce & generally prefer just to make it at home to avoid disappointment but this one is legit. Super good, buttery, seasoned, just well done. I absolutely love their chipotle breakfast wrap ( however ever since they change their potatoes I've liked it a little bit less). If the owner reads this, please let us know why you changed the potatoes A lot of the other food options are also great like the standard sandwich and their sausage and egg. The vibes here are also good. It's pretty busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait a bit but staff in the kitchen is usually pretty quick. I'm not giving this a full five stars because honestly, their drinks are subpar. I haven't found a drink on the menu that I enjoy - not even the standard chai or house blend coffee.

These biscuits are stacked so high and loaded so heavy, you'll need a game plan, a fork, and maybe a pep talk from your server (who, by the way, is probably the nicest person you've ever met before 10 a.m.). Let's start with the Bloody Marys--absolute perfection. Spicy, savory, and went down easy! Pair that with the fact that my biscuit sandwich came out looking like a Jenga tower of delicious chaos, and I knew I was in for something special. The first bite? Fireworks. The last bite? A fork fight at the table over the remaining crumbs. One of my sandwiches came dripping with sauce like it was starring in its own Food Network slow-mo reel. The other was a crunchy, tangy, biscuit-lovin' masterpiece stacked with perfectly fried chicken, cabbage slaw, and dreams. This place is not for the faint of appetite. You will leave full. You will need a nap. And you will already be planning your next visit before you even finish your drink. 10/10. Bring your hunger, your friends, and stretchy pants.

Cafe Corazon is a short walk away from the light rail station and has ample seating to work, study, or meet with friends. They have an all-day food menu in addition to their drinks, and their staff were friendly at both visits. I ordered their chicken tamales, iced Matchata, and their hot Dulce de Leche latte. (a) The chicken tamales reminded me of the Mexican tamales where the masa was on the dryer side. Thankfully they included a sauce and there was a good chicken-to-masa ratio. I have had several different tamales from other countries and personally prefer a more moist tamale, but these were decent. 4 out of 5 (b) The Matchata had a stronger horchata flavor with a very light hint of matcha. The horchata was good, but I would have preferred a stronger matcha taste. Maybe they could use a higher-grade matcha to get that strong earthy flavor. 3 out of 5. (c) The Dulce de Leche latte was delicious! I can see why it is one of their signature drinks. The caramel taste complimented the coffee very well and was not too sweet. It definitely tasted like a premium latte with high quality ingredients. 5 out of 5.

But nobody made any comment to me or expressed any concern (other than other guests). I in fact had to report the incident after flagging someone down, and nobody offered as much as an apology or asked if I was ok. I'm honestly glad it was me rather than an older person, as the outcome could have been rough. The food at McLain's is consistently good. I don't care for their coffee or espresso, but it's just not to my taste, I don't think it's poor quality. Bottom line, I think they could work on their soft skills regarding their guests (particularly when potential injuries are on the table). That said, do get a chicken salad sandwich from them. Seating might be full, but there's both counter seating in the open concept kitchen or tables on the other side. A lot of people rave about their breakfast burritos or breakfast biscuit sandwiches. My out of town guests love them too when I bring them here. I'm here to rave about their weekend only croissants. You can only get them on Saturday or Sunday because it takes a days to ferment and laminate the dough. The quality of their ingredients shines in even the simplest plain croissant. I'll occasionally venture into the chocolate or almond version. They rival some of the best I've had in NYC, SF or Paris. In KC, the only other rivals can be found at French Market or Sour Rabbit Bakery. I'm glad their croissants are weekend only so I can have them as an occasional treat. I find their other pastries, especially the tarts, biscuits or scones are also lovely. For a baked goods focused spot, I'd say their cold brew is also pretty great quality as well. Usually I'd go to another coffee shop for a fix, but I'm okay grabbing both a croissant and cold brew here.
