I've been a patient at this office for nearly 2 years now. Dr Kahane is kind and knowledgeable. His staff is amazing, though. They are extremely organized and friendly. I was very sorry to learn of Dr. Kahane's passing. An outstanding physician who listens and interacts very well with patience on from my experiences. He has had a notably long career with his profession. I have been seeing him for a decade and he had always been professional, honest and caring about my care. His staff was wonderful as well. FOR THE SCOTTSDALE OFFICE RECEPTIONIST: JENNIFER She is the worst. She is snarky, passive aggressive and a liar. I called in with an emergency needing a temporary Rx filled since I'm travelling and she told me TWICE she left the message for Dr. K on his desk but the pharmacy never got it. I finally called right before closing and she said he's busy etc. I decide to show up to the office to see him in person before he left and Dr. K told me she NEVER left the message. Shame on her. Dr. Kahane used the racial slur "ch*nk" during my recent appointment. He is too old to be practicing, doesn't remember who I am with each new visit, and I have to reexplain my condition. Quick appointments and you can get prescriptions refilled pretty easily, even with the limited hours. Still, something's really off about this guy. read more

I've had a very frustrating experience here. I've been a patient for over a year and not a single appointment has ever started on time or within fifteen minutes of my scheduled appointment. I've waited as long as forty. My average time actually speaking with the doctor: usually five minutes. My first appointment ended with me being sent into a room next door to do a DNA test to 'help figure out what meds go best with my body chemistry'. This was a really shady thing - the test is NOT required and I'm thankful my gut feeling told me not to let them do the test because it's an extremely expensive lab that is RARELY covered by insurance. I come here to help with ADHD and while I do think the doctor cares about his patients, he doesn't really ask questions that help their mental status. He never remembered me. His usual questions were 'how are you feeling' and 'are you still in school'. When I try to talk about my actual symptoms or side effects we somehow always end up off topic. Try having an attention disorder and constantly have to keep someone who is supposed to help you with said disorder on track! My final straw was him changing me from a medicine that worked really well to prescribing something that can only be bought at a specialty pharmacy and isn't covered by insurance. I'm getting the feeling more and more he has drug reps who push him to prescribe their meds vs making prescription choices based off of what is best for the patient. I just don't think I'm getting the help I need here and will not be returning. A good place to go if you want a random prescription, but not if you want to improve your overall mental health. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!! I went to this doctor and had the worst experience I have ever encountered at a doctor's office. If you are looking for a doctor that is going to care about you and to listen to your needs this is not the doctor for that. All he did was ask me about my personal life and ask what do I do for work. He also was going ON & ON about politics which is very unprofessional and has nothing to do with my medical needs. The reason for my visit was I needed a refill of my current anxiety medication that I am taking because I moved from California to Phoenix and was just simply looking for a new doctor. I brought in my old medication bottles from last month and he didn't even bother to look at them or ask what they were he just simply asked me what I wanted. I wanted him to look at my medicine bottle but he didn't even look. So I told him what I had been taking and he he insisted that I take the lowest amount and lowest milligram, WHICH WOULD MAKE ME SICK AND CAN HAVE SEIZURES AND DIE. He didn't even evaluate me on my anxiety or asked me what I take my medication for or my symptoms or any of that. He asked me no questions he just went straight to the point of what I wanted for my prescription and gave me no evaluation help at all. HE's ALSO GOING TO PUSH YOU TO TAKE THESE NEW MEDICINES THAT IS BEING PAID TO GIVE TO PEOPLE. HE GETS PAID BY THESE PHARMA COMPANIES TO PRESCRIBE THEM!!! WHICH ARE BRAND NEW AND GOD KNOWS WHAT THEY DO!! DONT TAKE HIS NEW "SAMPLES" or NEW MEDICATIONS THAT ARE "NON-HABIT FORMING" He's playing with peoples life's. Echoing many of the reviews here, this guy and his practice are a mess. When I moved to Phoenix and needed someone for my child, he was the fastest one to get in to. In hindsight that should have been a clue. 5 minutes in the office and he wrote prescriptions for my child. One of them was controlled so we had to pick it up in the office every month. After approximately 3 months, we went to pick it up and the front desk told us it had already been picked up. There was no-one in our family who picked it up, yet they refused to give another one even though it was their error. My wife told them to cancel the remaining appointments and even gave them a request to have records sent to a new doctor. Months go by and we receive a no-show appointment charge. When we called to ask about it we were told they had no record of the cancellation. Now that fee has been turned over to a collection agency. Run from this guy and find a real doctor who has a reputable practice & staff. read more

Revising my review and leaving my initial feedback below. Dr. Kahane was direct and listened to my issues, but I'm still not thrilled with the front desk's scheduling issues. I'll be back because he did a great job! Previous review- I received a call from the doctor's office the day before my appointment saying Dr. Kahane would be out this morning. We rescheduled my appointment for 3:50. I took time off work and drove down to the appointment only to be informed that Dr. Kahane wasn't in the office at all. Really? The least your team could do is inform your patients of canceled appointments. read more

It will depend what you are looking for if you are considering this practice. I don't like coddling or fuss and so it fits me well. He always asks about my life to see if I'm ok, and validates stresses like foster parenting which I really appreciate. The billing has been fine and the front desk was great. Dr. Kahane has always been extremely patient and listens to my concerns. I have been a patient of his for over 2 years and have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to see him. Even when I bring my 3 kids and they are being loud he never acts annoyed while trying to talk to me. I never feel rushed and always feel like he really cares about me as a patient. The only thing that needs to be addressed is the office staff not returning calls and not filling prescriptions on time. I have had to go without my medication which can have serious side effects because of office and clerical errors. The only reason I am not giving less stars is because I like Dr. Kahane so much and think he is a wonderful doctor. read more

Pros: Doctor is excellent and will take good care of you and get you what you need with out having to talk for hours on end. Cons: Calling and getting a actual person most likely won't happen and calling in for your refills every month with make you want to pull your hair out! read more

This doctor is by far the worst doctor, of any type, I've ever had. I needed a prior authorization for Pristique, I meet the qualifications because I've been on two prior antidepressants, but somehow my insurance company kept denying the medication. I've needed this refill for over a month. MedImpact finally told me what the form from the doctor said, and it had one single medication listed, despite the fact that it specifically stated two prior medications are required, and it's a medication I've never been on. So instead of just filling out the form with my actual information he either 1) confused me with someone else, which is always heartening; Or 2) just completely fabricated the form because checking my actual records was too taxing. If you have also had this experience, with any psych, the APA is very friendly, and happy to listen. http://www.apa.org/ethics/complaint/ They especially love things that are in writing, like faxes with false information. Azmd.gov is also a helpful resource, in case the psych isn't part of the APA. Kahane's license number is 23948, from what I've been able to find, and it's incredibly helpful to have when filling complaints. Yelp is great, but essentially a dead end unless he's reported to actual enforcement agencies... read more

I recently saw this "physician" (why the quotes you may ask?) well...I question his credentials as a psychiatrist, but that's another conversation. I am presently enrolled in therapy with an excellent therapist who is helping me a great deal. He thought it would be a good idea if I were prescribed something for my ongoing depression. Less than one minute in his office, he assessed that I am fat (gee....my mirror at home must not be working, because, who knew?) and he went on and on about the dangers of obesity (Yes, thank you, my PCP and I have covered this) and essentially could have cared less as to why I was really there, which I had to keep bringing him back to. The fact that this man is in a profession which normally garners compassionate clinicians, I find his credentials suspect. He has the compassion and personality of a clenched fist. I tore up the script he wrote, and saw someone else who truly wanted to help me get on the proper medication. This Dr. Kahane is a joke. read more

I have seen this doctor once. My impression at the first visit was that he is fairly prompt. (At my last appointment with another provider, I waited over an hour for a 1:00 appointment only to find another patient had been waiting since 11:30. Long waits are typical for over-booked doctors. I got the impression that he booked realistic times for his patients. 15 minutes past due is not a long time to wait.) He was pretty open to allowing me to lead the conversation of what I was looking for in these sessions. He took my previous diagnoses without questioning the validity of it, which would have been very irritating. His manner is very serious and a bit dry, but I actually liked it. I felt like he was honest about who he was and was willing to listen to me. I was not honest in my questionnaire about the fact that I drink regularly while taking sedatives. I plan to tell him that in my next appointment. I want to be safe, and the only way to do that is to be honest. Only one appointment, but so far, I like him. For the reviews that have stated he is too old to practice, there is some comfort in having someone who has some experience. I didn't get the impression that he had some agenda to prescribe meds he got a kickback from, as some reviewers have implicated. He gave me what I informed him was working. But how can he manage my risks if I'm not up front? This next visit will be different. read more
